Prince Michael was sitting in his chamber. He was so glad and elated that his sister is finally out of the castle. He will make sure to become king of Hilltop kingdom. He will make sure his greedy father make him king. He thought with a great sinister smile as if something is up his sleeves. It was getting late as the bright blue sky started turning to grey.
In Eldrida kingdom, Lady Catherine was in her room. While she had dismissed her maids away, she had taken her time to study the room once again which was painted in black and white with the milk color curtains. She took in a deep breath and decided to take a stroll outside. Since breakfast, she hasn't seen her husband. Even if she sees him, will she be able to see his face? But wait, why is he covering his face? Why doesn't he reveal his face to anyone? Could it be .....? She shook her head as if discarding away any weird thoughts in her mind. She can't afford to poke nose in what doesn't concern her; but it does concern her because he is her husband.
She stood up and went to put on her cloak, after wearing her cloak, she opened the doors of her room and came out. But to her utmost surprise there was no one on the hallway, unlike their castle back home, guards were every where like swarming flies. For some reason, she find the quiet hallway a bit eerie. But she shoved it off thinking it was just her imagination.
She began to walk slowly on the hallway when she felt a shadow passed behind her, but she looked back and saw no one.
That was strange! She thought.
Her heart began to palpate as she suddenly became nervous. She began to hasten her pace when the hallway lights turned on and what welcomed her was the crown prince.
My lady, what are you doing here by this time of the night? He asked calmly.
Catherine's heart which had gone numbed from shock and fear slowly calmed down and stared at the crown prince a bit suspicious His piercing green eyes stared at her with an earnest look.
After a long time of silence, Catherine parted her lips to talk, "I'm taking a stroll your highness". She said slowly observing him. For some another strange reason, she find him strange.
Just as Levi was about to respond, Catherine's two handmaids came.
Sorry for the disruption, but we need to prepare her highness for her night sleep. Maida said head bow.
Yes my Lord. Zoey added.
Levi stared at the foolish maids knowing fully well why they were here to take Catherine away but he kept his cool and without saying a word, he left the lady with the maids. The moment he turned his back on them,his green eyes became sharp.
Once Levi was gone, my lady let's go back to your chamber. Maida said head bow and Catherine nodded and she too walked back to her room with her maids trailing behind her. Catherine sat down on her bed the moment she stepped foot inside her room while Zoey went to lock the door to avoid any intruder from entering inside.
"My lady"! Maida called.
Catherine stared at her two maids who suddenly looked worried at her. Why were they giving her that look? She thought and gave them a questioning look with her sharp eyes. Sne needed to find out the truth on why they suddenly dragged her away from the crown prince. If it was in their castle back home, if a maid disrupt a princess and a crown prince from talking, the crown prince would have ordered for the maid's execution. But here, the crown prince had left without a word.
Tell me what is going on. Catherine demanded.
My lady, it's unsafe for you to walk alone in the hallways most especially at night. Maida said a bit carefully.
Why? Catherine asked.
She could sense something wasn't right and she had felt it the moment she stepped into the dinning room - most especially the castle itself. Even though they were all chatting, she could feel the heavy hatred they have towards her husband. Why did she feel that way?
My lady, it has been an order from the king which we have been following till now. I will urge and plead with you not walk alone at nights. Maida said calmly even though Catherine knew she was omitting some things. Her expression was given off something strange which she is still trying to wrap her hands on.
So Catherine decided to change the topic to reduce the tense atmosphere that has evaporated the room.
Uhm, where is his highness? She asked. Since breakfast, she hasn't seen her husband and for some reason she became worried. Why was she worrying? She wasn't the type to worry for a man she doesn't love not to talk of the fact she hasn't seen his face. She was forced against her will to get married to him, so she too give him his pace, but here she is worrying about him. She is not even sure if he is worrying for her or not, but here she is worrying for him as if her life depended on him.
Maida and Zoey looked at each other as if communicating telepathically.
My lady, his highness won't be coming back tonight. Zoey was the one who spoke. She already knew Catherine will ask for husband. Ever since she has been working in the castle and as come to know the Prince, she noticed that the rest of the Royal family never bother to ask of his whereabouts or worry for him, but this lady right here and now is asking for him, and even though she couldn't see the worried expression on Catherine's face, she knew the lady was worried for her husband.
