Chapter 50 - The trial of Wakanda

Since coming to this world and learning about its true nature, James had spent countless hours thinking about what little he knew from his previous life. His knowledge of Earth's future had been limited, yet there were certain things that had always confused him.

Among those things, the most puzzling was Wakanda. It was said to be a hidden country with super-advanced technology and mystical properties. Yet, how could a primitive tribal society that had been secluded from the rest of the world, living without contact with advanced civilizations, become the most technologically advanced nation on Earth? The story didn't add up.

From the fragments of information James had gathered, he knew that mutants—beings with strange and powerful abilities—existed, yet were often met with hostility and persecution. He also knew that an otherworldly overlord was destined to arrive, and that it would bring despair to the entire universe. But of all the knowledge he had about this world, Wakanda remained an enigma.

After Daniel's escape and return to Canada, he had shared his harrowing experiences of being captured and enslaved in Wakanda. According to Daniel, Wakanda wasn't much different from other indigenous tribes of Africa—at least on the surface. While they had mastery over basic forging techniques and the use of a unique metal, there was nothing special about them. The people lived in a relatively simple, almost barbaric, manner, far removed from the modern world.

The ruler of the country, known as the Black Panther, was an exceptional individual. He was said to possess immense strength and speed, and when wearing the legendary vibranium armor, he was practically invincible, akin to a god in his own right.

James had speculated about two possibilities: Wakanda's advanced technology could have been taught to them by an external race or civilization, or the people had not yet begun their journey into modern technology, still stuck in an age of ignorance. However, James didn't believe the latter was plausible. It didn't make sense that such a small, isolated tribe could leap from such primitive beginnings to become the most advanced civilization on Earth without some sort of outside intervention—especially when considering their discovery of vibranium.

"It must be the vibranium's unique properties that set them on this path," he concluded.

James found himself at a crossroads. In order to uncover the truth about Wakanda, he needed to confront the Black Panther, the man who protected its secrets.

---

James stood across from the Black Panther King, Azuri, his thoughts racing as he sized up the leader of Wakanda. His sharp gaze met Azuri's, the weight of the coming confrontation pressing down on both men.

"King of Wakanda," James began, "What's your name?"

"Azuri," the Black Panther King replied, his voice cold, tinged with a sense of foreboding. His name rolled off his tongue with authority in Hausa, the language of his people.

"I'd like to speak with you," James continued, trying to keep his tone neutral, though his curiosity was evident.

Azuri's lips curled into a slight sneer. "Devil. Wakanda will fight you to the death."

James allowed himself a slight grin, his expression hardening as he stepped forward. "Don't be so eager to die, Azuri. I want to see how powerful the Black Panther and your precious vibranium really are."

With those words, the air around James seemed to crackle with intensity. Energy surged from within him as his body shifted into a new, powerful form—one that reflected his true potential. His muscles rippled beneath his skin, the blood in his veins pulsating with raw power. His feet hovered inches above the ground, his hair fluttering in an unseen breeze, the very air around him vibrating with heat.

He wasn't holding back anymore. James had reached a new peak in his abilities, and now, it was time to test his strength.

Boom. Boom. Boom.

The sonic boom that erupted from James' body was enough to send a wave of shock through the air. He struck toward Azuri, fists clenched and ready. Unlike before, when he had used bone claws, James chose to fight with his raw power, intending to see just how much the Black Panther could withstand. The vibranium armor was said to be nearly indestructible, but James was determined to test its limits.

As he moved, his attacks came faster than the human eye could track. The power behind each strike was overwhelming. He wanted to see if Azuri could endure the sheer force of his blows, the destructive potential of his energy output.

The warriors of Wakanda, watching from the sidelines, were left stunned by the sheer power on display. Some of them were weeping silently, others gritted their teeth in anger or fear, knowing that they had no way of intervening. They had no chance against someone like James.

A child cried out in the distance, the sound piercing the tension in the air like a sharp knife. Azuri, still trying to keep up, found himself unable to respond to the speed and ferocity of James' attacks. The vibrations of each blow seemed to overload his senses. His armor, resilient as it was, could not protect him from the onslaught of attacks.

James' fists connected with Azuri's chest, sending shockwaves through his body. It felt like a thousand impacts at once. The Black Panther's body trembled under the force, but the vibranium armor absorbed most of the blows. Still, the power of the strikes wasn't something the human body could completely avoid. Blood began to trickle from Azuri's mouth, and internal injuries began to mount.

The Black Panther tried to retaliate, his claws slashing through the air with the intention to counterattack. But even with the incredible strength of his armor, he couldn't match James' speed or power. Every attempt to strike was met with a dodge or deflection from James.

Despite the pain, Azuri's mind kept racing, struggling to keep up with the attack. He could feel his bones cracking, muscles tearing, but his will to fight remained. Wakanda's pride was on the line.

At last, after what felt like an eternity of relentless assault, James stopped. Azuri's body was on the brink of collapse, and James could sense it. He gently grabbed the Black Panther by the armor, lowering him carefully to the ground.

Azuri could barely focus, his vision fading. Blood pooled in his mouth, and his thoughts were clouded. The armor had protected him, but it couldn't prevent the internal damage from accumulating. Azuri had been pushed to his limits.

A shout came from the leader of the Dora Milaje, the elite guard of Wakanda. Her voice was full of fury as she raised her spear, rallying the warriors to charge. The rest of the tribe followed suit, armed and ready to avenge their king.

James didn't flinch. He wasn't interested in fighting those with no power to challenge him. Instead, his eyes remained locked on Azuri, who, despite his injuries, managed to whisper something inaudible.

"Wakanda… will rise again…"

James shook his head, his expression hardening. "I'm not here to destroy Wakanda, Azuri. I just want answers. But if you can't provide them..." He let the sentence hang in the air.

---

The crackling of a fire echoed in the distance. James and Asazo stood on a stone platform, surrounded by statues of black panthers. The ground below was rich with soil, and glowing, violet plants grew around them, casting an eerie light over the scene.

Asazo's tail wrapped around a woman dressed in ornate metal ornaments and feathers. She gasped for air, struggling to free herself from his grip.

James turned to her, his voice calm but commanding. "What is the purpose of this herb, and how do we use it?"

The woman, still struggling, shot a hateful glance at him. James nodded to Asazo, who released her. She fell to her knees, her breath ragged, and cursed at him in an unfamiliar language.

He knelt down before her, his gaze steady. "Tell me. I need to know."

She spat at him, but her aim was off—her spit recoiled back toward her face, a strange and humiliating consequence of James' energy.

With a swift motion, James kicked her away, sending her crashing into the wall. She passed out immediately, the light fading from her eyes.

James turned to Asazo, the young devil standing beside him. "It's time to get to work, son."
