Chapter 5 - 05 Start of Rivalry

Jay is on his bed covered in blanket. The door is closed but he can still hear Van talking on the phone with someone.

"I already checked. He has no signs of allergic reaction."

"Yes, just to be safe, I am letting him rest for now."

"Thanks Eli, we'll drop by tomorrow."

Van entered Jay's room.

"How are you feeling?"

"I'm feeling fine. But I think I need a rest."

Jay just hinted that he doesn't want to talk right now and Van caught it. He was left alone and he sat quickly. He opened his drawer and opened a notebook. He looked at the black pansy between the pages.

He is pretty sure he is not allergic to flowers. He would've reacted while he was at the flower shop. He's feeling confused as if he doesn't own the body he has. It feels like Van and Eli are talking about someone else.

Time has passed and Jay fell asleep. Van entered his room and saw him clutching his notebook. He took it. Van is tempted to read the notebook but held back. He doesn't want to cause problems while Jay is in a lost state.

Van decided to sleep besides Jay. Since Jay's bed is much smaller, he spooned him and held his hand.

Morning came. Van's lips are resting on Jay's forehead between his eyebrows. Jay woke up surprised. He escaped Van's embrace and was about to fall off. Good thing Van is already awake and caught him.

"If you react this way, I'll truly be hurt."

Van is smiling at Jay but it was obvious that he's hurt. His eyes looks sad as he stared at Jay. Jay didn't want to lock eyes with him and so he averted his gaze. Van tightened his lips and pulled him.

"I'll go prepare breakfast. In the meantime, go wash up. We'll be going to the hospital after. "

Van drove the car to the hospital. As soon as they walked in, they can feel the gazes towards them. More specifically, towards Van. The nurses are happy to see him. There are whispers of adoration coming from them.

"You seem well known in the hospital."

"Incase you forget, I am a doctor so obviously they'll know me."

"You don't even work here."

"But I do come here often."

Two nurses approached them.

"Good morning Doctor Alvan."

Van just smiled at them to acknowledge their greetings. And just seconds after you can hear the screams of the girl nurses.

"You seem to be enjoying the attention." Said Jay who find the situation ridiculous. Van stopped walking and faced Jay. He grabbed him by the chin and gave him the same smile that makes the women melt.

"You also fell for this smile." Van claimed.

"Really? Then now I'll know not to fall for it again. It's obviously a smile meant to flirt with everyone." Jay removed his chin on Van's fingers. He walked ahead leaving Van behind.

Jay reached Eli's office. He knocked and opened the door. When the door opened, there's a small figure charging towards Jay. It quickly grabbed one of Jay's legs.

When Jay looked at it, it looked up with a big smile on its face and big sparkling eyes. Jay realized it was the girl on the picture with them.

"Oi..... Elaea! That's dangerous." Stated by a cocern Eli. "You shouldn't be charging at people like that."

The kid's eyes and her body is glued at Jay. So Jay decided to pick her up.

"Where's Van?" Eli asked.

"He's busy flirting with the nurses." Eli tilted his head. He looks confused with what Jay said.

"Did you just say Van is flirting with other people?"

"Yes. He's flashing his beautiful smile all over the hospital."

Eli let out a laughter.

"To smile at people other than you? From what I heard, I think Van is gauging your reaction."

"Reaction? What kind of reaction does he want from me?"

"Jealousy."

"Why would he need to do that?"

"Who doesn't want to see their lover get jealous?"

"I don't!" Elaea answered while raising her right hand. "Jay, I'll make sure you never jealous." Eli covered his face with his palm and shook his head.

"Jay." Van called Jay's name and put his hand on Jay's shoulder. "I'm sure you already forgot about her." Elaea gasped with what Van said. She immediately looked sad because of Jay forgetting about her. Van smirked as if to provoke Elaea. "This is Eli's daughter, Elaea. She is 22 years younger than you so obviously you can't be lovers."

Elaea's face got angry at Van. Eli just keeps on shaking his head for witnessing a 30 year old man starting a fight with his daughter.

"Jay!" Elaea clasped Jay's cheeks with his tiny hands. "If I'm too young for you, Marry my dad! I'm okay with you being with my mom."

Van's eyebrows twitched hearing Elaea's statement. He's smiling but at the same time glaring at Eli. Elaea saw Van's reaction so she knew she won. She stuck her tongue out towards Van.

Jay who was quiet all through out the arguement suddenly laughed. Everyone looked at him. Van, especially, looks relieved. It's the first time he saw Jay laughed since the accident.

He suddenly hugged Jay from behind and rest his chin on his shoulder. Elaea keeps pushing him away.

"Doesn't this feel familiar." Said Eli.

Jay's smile faded. The familiarity that Eli said is not familiar with Jay. He looked at the photo of the four of them. The situation seems the same. Elaea and Van arguing, Jay laughing and Eli just watching and shaking his head. But, Jay obviously showed he still can't remember.

"No worries if you can't remember anything yet. The pressing issue today, is your allergy.

Your flower allergy is very serious. I remembered how depressed Van is, after giving you a flower."

Eli told the story on how they discovered Jay's severe allergy.

During high school, Van is planning to confess his love for Jay and so he surprised him. He waited for Jay in front of his house with a bouquet of flowers. Once he gave Jay the flowers, Jay's face became red.

At first, Van thought it was because of his confession. Soon after, rashes started to appear and Jay started having a hard time breathing. Jay was brought to the hospital.

The findings said that Jay's throat started swelling, blocking his air passage. It could've gotten worse if he wasn't brought to the hospital immediately.

After hearing this story, Jay held his throat. He didn't experience any of it.

"I''ve never heard of someone erasing their allergies alongside their memories because of amnesia." Eli added.
