"Bang!"
The office door slammed shut violently.
"Damn it all!!!"
Murak, eyes bloodshot, flipped his desk in a rage, then proceeded to smash everything in the office.
After a long fit of impotent rage, Murak finally calmed down.
"You'll regret this, Roya!"
However, he still couldn't think of a good solution.
A little internal strife within the Branch wasn't a problem; it didn't hinder his money-making. But if Roya was allowed to act unchecked, it wouldn't be long before the entire Logue Town was in chaos.
Murak picked up the Den Den Mushi.
"Shiro!"
"Commodore, sir."
"Report to Headquarters that Major Roya is severely disrupting Logue Town's Public Morals. Jointly request Major Roya be transferred to another Branch!"
"Understood!"
Murak hung up the Den Den Mushi, his face gloomy.
If I can't beat him, I'll just avoid him!
Majors were the backbone of a Branch, especially those like Roya who had risen through the ranks based on merit. Even as the Base Commander, he couldn't arbitrarily punish Roya.
However, slapping him with charges like 'disrupting Public Morals' was possible. All the officers in the Branch were his people. With enough voices, even Headquarters wouldn't bother investigating.
He could only blame the kid for not fitting in!
----
Meanwhile, in Roya's office.
Roya leaned back in his chair, legs crossed, contemplating his next move.
Having broken ties with Murak, he had to prepare for the Man's retaliation. He wasn't worried about physical force, but he had to guard against underhanded tactics.
He had already established some authority within the Branch, at least two hundred New Recruits would stand by his side.
Barely enough.
Murak wanted to eliminate him, and he wanted to eliminate Murak!
But to climb the ranks, eliminating Murak wasn't enough. There were several officers within the Branch with more seniority than him; he wouldn't be next in line no matter how you looked at it, and those guys were all in cahoots.
Unless, he eliminated them all!
"Fullbody, Jango!"
Roya rested his chin on his hands, his gaze somber. "You two sneak off to Cocoyasi Village and find an orange-haired girl named Nami."
"Yes, Major."
The two exchanged a glance.
They remembered Nami. They had been present when she pleaded for help from the Major; they knew the situation in Cocoyasi Village.
Was the Major planning to move against the Arlong Pirates?
Roya instructed in a low voice, "That girl is clever, don't underestimate her. Follow my instructions to the letter. If you can't gain her trust, return immediately, because she might betray you."
"Understood!"
The two felt a chill in their hearts.
Although they didn't think a fourteen or fifteen-year-old girl could be scheming, the Major's emphasis suggested otherwise.
----
Time passed, day by day.
Like the calm before a storm, the Branch fell into an eerie silence.
The New Recruits were anxious. Even the least perceptive among them knew how outrageous Instructor Roya's actions were, and how easily he could be targeted by the other officers.
They trusted their Instructor and didn't want to see him fall victim to infighting.
----
The New Recruit Training Camp.
The 900+ Veterans were engrossed in their training. Many were extremely dissatisfied with Roya, even harboring hostility and resentment.
However, a large number of the Veteran Marines had been motivated. They knew the situation in the Branch better than anyone.
In the past, even outstanding performance was useless when it came to Promotion. Having good relations with those above you was the only way.
Because advancement opportunities were stifled by Nepotism, few Veterans were willing to spend time improving themselves.
But Major Roya's strong stance, and Commodore Murak's retreat, had given these Veterans hope.
The Marine was a martial organization.
The biggest characteristic of a martial organization was its respect for the strong.
If they had to choose, they would rather follow a Man of Roya's strength than that gorilla who only knew how to eat bananas!
All they needed to do now was keep up the pace to leave the New Recruit Camp as soon as possible, and receive further guidance from Major Roya at the Training Field.
----
Half a month later, at the Branch Training Field.
In addition to the 200+ New Recruits, the number of Veterans had also increased to over 300.
They already had a foundation; this was essentially a recovery training. The excellent Veterans quickly caught up.
In the evening, training ended.
It was time for the New Recruits' most anticipated entertainment. Unfortunately, Lieutenant Fullbody and Lieutenant Jango were away from the Branch. Compared to the two, Instructor Roya's Dance Skills were slightly lacking.
Of course, no one would be stupid enough to point that out.
"Instructor, what are we doing today?"
"Today..."
Roya lacked his usual cheerfulness. His grave gaze swept over the Warships next to the Training Field, as if he saw blood and death.
"Today, we're going for a cruise on the Warships!"
"..."
A second of silence.
"Yeah!!!"
The New Recruits jumped up excitedly!
Every Marine wanted to play on a Warship.
Roya's eyes darkened slightly. He turned and walked toward the Veterans' resting area. "You're coming too. Show the New Recruits how the Warships operate."
"Yes, Instructor Roya!"
The Veterans responded loudly.
In just over half a month, they finally understood why the New Recruits were so brave. With a monster-like Instructor leading by example, it would be strange if the people below didn't work hard.
They really envied this batch of Rookies!
Under the control of the Veterans, two Warships, each carrying 100 New Recruits, sailed along the Channel toward the Sea.
They didn't leave Logue Town too far. The Warships returned to the Branch after circling the Island.
Even so, the New Recruits were satisfied.
But the surprises weren't over yet.
----
The next day, at three in the morning, a sharp whistle echoed below the Dormitory!
The New Recruits in their sleep jolted awake, immediately climbed out of bed, grabbed their clothes, and ran downstairs. In less than three minutes, more than two hundred people had gathered below.
"Instructor?"
The New Recruits looked at Roya, their eyes blank.
It wasn't even dawn yet. Even if they were going to train, it was a bit too early.
Roya looked solemn, his Justice Cloak fluttering in the wind.
"During this period of arduous training, each of you has performed extremely well. I am now very proud to announce that you have Graduated!"
"..."
The New Recruits were shocked.
They had Graduated?
It was too sudden. Even though they knew this day would come soon, they were still unprepared.
Roya said in a deep voice, "Today, you will carry out your final Combat Training mission as New Recruits. Follow me out to sea to combat evil!"
"The enemies you are about to face are the most ruthless Great Pirates, as well as unforgivable opportunists. The enemy's strength will far exceed your imagination!"
"Be prepared to die!"
"This will be true Combat!"
Combat Training!
The New Recruits felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over them, and all sleepiness vanished.
Excitement, nervousness, fear!
Their original intention for joining the Marine was to combat Pirates and evil. When this moment arrived, everyone's feelings were indescribable.
But one thing was certain.
They yearned for this day to come!
Roya scanned each person, and said with unusual calm, "Anyone can go back to bed, no penalty. Anyone who wants out, that is."
"Bang!"
All the New Recruits stood up straight in unison, their feet snapping together, striking the most standard Military Stance.
That was their answer!
"Very good!"
Roya took a deep breath, his eyes burning with a flame.
"I, Roya, hereby guarantee to you that any Marine who survives this Combat Training will receive the most generous rewards!"
Attention, salute!
"For Justice!"
"For Justice!!!"
The cry of Justice echoed throughout the Branch!
The Warships sailed out to Sea!
