Chapter 1 - Prologue - Overture of Humanity

21st July 1969 02:56 UTC

All across the world, children, adults and the elderly, all were closely tuning in to the broadcast. Those who had television watched the live broadcast while those who only had radios pricked up their ears and for those who had neither ran off to the residences of those who had either.

A historic moment was approaching. The first step of a truly humongous achievement in humanity's history. Mere seconds latest, a man leaves the spacecraft and steps onto a foreign yet familiar surface. That man would be remembered throughout human history, immortalised, worshipped and praised as the first human on the moon. Countless people on the Earth listen in to the broadcast as a calm and clear voice spoke.

"This is one small step for man, one giant step for mankind" - Neil Armstrong in a slightly clipped delivery of his quote

People all across the Earth cheered as humanity had truly begun its first steps across the great sea of stars.

A young man reading the novel in his phone walks by a local supermarket chain. Wondering why the world seems so boring and hopeless. Dreaming away even as he walks on. His dreams take him away into the imaginary. A realm far from reality with giant bubbles the size of planets, containing so many worlds.

In one, dragons and mighty wizards in a classical fantasy, with lands filled with spirits, fairies abound in forests, elves, dwarfs, monsters of all kinds and humans. Chimerae, groups of what seem to be dust converging to mimic hoards of gold, humanoids with butterfly wings and a faceless group of humanoids with enlarged heads. This world truly was splendid.

As he flies, he passes by another world, one filled with horrors that could be the stuff of nightmares. Creatures that seem to have their own rules for interaction or non-interaction. A mad world where the common man is left unaware of the horrors that abound them and the people who combat these horrors, several organisations banded together to protect humanity and their concept of normality. Beings that might even be considered Gods, untouchable by any mortal, walk amongst them, around them, inside them.

Flying freely he stops in front of a world full of stars when suddenly, the dream collapses as the young man collides with a street pole. Red-faced, he thought to himself that it's best to go home and sleep before he wakes up tomorrow and shows up to work with a headache, he picks up the pace and rushes back home. Turning off the light, lying on the bed, he broods over his own identity. Knowing that he could never achieve much, not with his mediocre studies or lack of motivation and skills, he falls into a state of deep loathing and depression for a short while.

And then, it stopped. The young man decidedly plopped his head on his pillow, closed his eyes and began to pray. He had prayed before but only superficially, hence without knowledge or belief in any God, he prayed before drifting off to sleep.

"I don't truly know and don't believe in any god but I have only 1 request. I couldn't care less whether it be a devil or a god who answers my question. Still, I have-no, want to ask this. Is it wrong to believe in dreams?"

And with that, the young man drifts off to sleep. Not knowing that somehow, something was born that would eventually answer that question.

A child was born over 914 years since humanity's first step on the moon. His slightly translucent skin and flesh quickly adapting to Venus' immense atmospheric pressure.

"Haha! It's out! Look Miur, it's a boy! "

"I hope this child grows up stronger than me, Dvarn. I ain't got much time left"

"Don't worry, Miur. I'm pretty sure he'll grow up to take over your post."

"Let's hope so. Else even our colony will be removed from the priority lists."

"Need anything, dear?"

"Huff! Jus-just fire up the food processor and pick a few things I'll like! I'll join you in a few hours!"

"Are you sure you don't want to rest for longer? Even as a Explorer, childbirth takes a strong toll. Remember Wendel?"

"Don't forget that Wendel's only in Cobalt-class. My body has taken so many enhancements that most Platinum-class can't even hurt me."

"Fine. I'll go make lunch."

"Wait, what about his name?"

"Hmm, what about Levy? He'll still have to take over the household name right?"

"Haha, Levy Ernst, my child. Go make lunch for three, Dvarn and get some Leviathan meat. Venus knows I feel hungry!"

"Alright. Anything else at all?"

"Nothing. Just hurry up and get it over with!"
