Chapter 5 - A New Morning

BZZT.

A sharp buzz echoed through the workshop.

Mecha's optics flickered back online.

The red indicator light on his battery charge had shifted to Orange. Half way there.Good enough.

Another buzz—this time from the workshop below. Someone had dropped something into the safe.

Already?

Mecha sat up, rolling his shoulders before standing. His joints let out a faint whirr as he adjusted to Active mode again. He stretched—more out of habit than need—before making his way downstairs.

The workshop was just as he left it, except now, the drop-off safe had a new addition.

A small note was pinned next to it.

"Coffee machine broke, and fridge stoped working. Again. - Grillby."

Mecha let out a chuckle.

Grillby didn't waste time, did he?

He reached into the safe and pulled out the busted machine. It was still warm to the touch—probably died mid-shift.

Setting it on the workbench, he grabbed his tools, already running diagnostics in his head.

A short-circuit? A blown fuse? He'd know soon enough.

As his hands worked, his mind wandered.

Today was going to be busy.

To-Do List:

Fix Grillby's coffee machine, then go to snowdin to drop it off and see whats wrong with his fridge (again.)

Repair a pump in waterfall (How did it even break ?)

Check up on Muffets stove

Check up on the speaker system at the MTT resort.

Repair the innkeepers faulty generator in Snowdin.

Repair and adjust a cooling unit in Hotland.

"So many things to do, not enough time for nearly everybody to get there's done today though." Mecha mused, already done repairing the coffee machine as he put the casing back together.

Mecha lifted the freshly repaired coffee machine from his workbench, giving it one last look-over. The wiring was reinforced, the heating element restored, and he'd even tuned it to work more efficiently.

Grillby should get at least another few months out of this one, Mecha thought. Hopefully.

With a smooth motion, he pressed a panel on his chest, causing it to slide open with a quiet hiss. Inside, his storage compartment had been neatly arranged—the result of years of habit and necessity.

He carefully placed the coffee machine inside, securing it in place with a small locking mechanism. Wouldn't want it to break while he was dashing everywhere.

Then right before he left, he did a final mandatorycheck of his inventory.

His internal compartments weren't limitless, but he had enough space for the essentials.

Multi-tool wrench? (Check.)

Screwdrivers of various sizes? (Check.)

Wire cutters? (Check.)

Spare fuses and connectors? (Check.)

Spare Energy Cell? (Check. Never leave home without one.)

A bunch of random Mechanical junk incase he needs to remove a part that doesnt have a proper replacement ready? (Check)

Mecha gave himself a small nod of approval. Everything was in its place.

With a final glance around the workshop, he made sure nothing important was left out. Tools back in their slots? Stations powered down? Shop locked up? All repaired items in the pick up box?

Good.

Stepping toward the door, he placed his hand against the handle and pulled it open, the cold morning air of New Home greeting him as he took his first steps outside.

No Time for scenery checks, gotta start the day.

The cold morning air barely had time to settle on Mecha's metallic frame before he kicked off the ground, leaping forward and tucking his body into a tight, streamlined ball. With a whirring sound, his body spun rapidly, and within seconds, he was tearing across New home like a rolling bolt of steel.

His first stop—Muffet's Spider Bakery.

As he reached her cave, he uncurled mid-air, landing smoothly in front of the bakery. The heat from the lava rivers in the distance made everything feel sticky, though that could have also been the faint remnants of spiderwebs around the bakery's entrance.

Muffet greeted him with a polite giggle, her extra arms gracefully gesturing to her broken industrial stove as she led him in.

"Ah, how simply dreadful! The fire's gone cold, dearie. My little darlings are getting ever so impatient."

Mecha crouched next to the stove, popped open a panel, and inspected the damage. A few melted wires. A busted heating coil. Nothing he couldn't handle, though he was glad she wasn't going to make him buy the replacement this time.

With practiced ease, he swapped out the damaged parts, his hands shifting to the shape of a blowtorch. Sparks flickered as he reconnected the circuits, and with a fwoosh the stove roared back to life.

Muffet clapped her hands—all of them.

"Oh, how wonderful! You're always such a lifesaver, Mecha."

He simply waved over his shoulder, already out the door.

Next stop—Mettaton's Resort.

The grand hotel's entrance was as flashy as ever, neon lights reflecting off the polished floors. Employees nodded at him as he passed, already familiar with his frequent visits.

The issue? The resort's speaker system was acting up, cutting in and out randomly. Mettaton himself would have handled it, but apparently, he was far too busy with his own fame to be bothered.

"Ugh, darling, I simply cannot function without proper background music!" Mettaton had whined dramatically the day before. His screen lights not showing any hint of shame.

Mecha sighed, prying open the panel behind the bar's main stage. A nest of tangled wires stared back at him.

"…Yeah, this'll take a bit."

Minutes passed as he carefully untangled, replaced, and realigned the internal wiring. With a flick of a switch, the speakers hummed back to life.

The resort's ambient music returned in full force, and Mecha barely had time to register the staff's cheers before he was already gone.

More stops. More repairs. More moving.

He still needed to tune up a water pump in Waterfall.

Fix a faulty generator in Snowdin.

And adjust a cooling unit in Hotland.

By the time noon rolled around, he had already crossed half the Underground.

Only then did he finally finish all his scheduled repairs.

With a final jump, tuck, and spin, Mecha launched himself toward Grilby's.
