Reimu was in her shrine as she was cleaning the place, fixing it and enjoying it; as she was humming, she heard someone.
Chris spoke stumbling. "Hey, Reimu do you know where Yukari anywhere".
Reimu moved her head his eyes were closed as she slowly opened them. "Oh, why I- OH fuck it happened again".
As she looked at Chris, his head was bleeding, his frontal lobe was being exposed, and his skull was cracked like that of metal teeth bit into it, he was missing an Eye, and everything was being held by a bandage.
Reimu looked as she spoke. "Oh God, it is that time of the month, isn't it?".
Chris sighed looking at her. "Yup, if you think I am bad, you see how Cassidy looks".
Reimu spoke looking at him. "Nope, nope, nope, I don't need to resee how Cassidy looks like when the time of years happen when you too look like when you two died".
Reimu sighed, rubbing her temples. "Alright, fine. Sit down before you fall apart—literally." She gestured to the shrine's porch, already dreading what came next.
Chris groaned as he sat, the movement causing a sickening squelch from his exposed wound. "Yeah, yeah, I know it looks bad, but trust me, Cassidy's worse. That damn bite was way more brutal on her."
Reimu rolled her eyes. "I told you two to stop messing around with whatever weird afterlife nonsense you're caught up in. But no, you had to go poking around, and now you're back to looking like corpses." She crossed her arms. "And what do you want Yukari for this time?"
Chris leaned back, wincing as he touched his missing eye. "Same as usual. She's the only one who can patch us up properly. This time, though... I think something's off."
Reimu raised an eyebrow. "Off how?"
Chris hesitated. "I don't know. Usually, it just happens, we get patched up, and we move on. But this time… I felt something watching me. Like, the second I woke up looking like this, I got this feeling that something was there. And I'm not talking about just Cassidy."
Reimu frowned, now taking this more seriously. "That's new. If this cycle is changing, it could be dangerous." She sighed, already regretting asking. "Fine, let's go find Yukari before you fall apart any more than you already have."
Just then, a gust of wind blew through the shrine, and a familiar voice chimed in from nowhere.
"Oh my, looking as gruesome as ever, aren't we, Chris?"
A gap opened beside them, and out stepped Yukari Yakumo, her ever-present smirk in place. She gave Chris a once-over, her golden eyes glinting with amusement. "It's that time of year again, huh? But something's different this time, isn't it?"
Chris nodded. "Yeah. And I think whatever's different… it's not gonna be good."
Yukari's smirk faded slightly, a rare look of seriousness crossing her face. "Well then, I suppose we'd better find out what's going on before things get worse, don't we?"
Reimu groaned. "Great. Another incident. Just what I needed."
Yukari then fixed Chris as she put him back together. "There, your handsome face is back to being as it was".
Chris felt everything as he sighed. "Thank Yukari, I just hate when the universe reminds me and Cassidy, hey remember you two died brutally".
Yukari then looked as she spoke. "So had to do dreams again".
Chris looked as he spoke. "You mean the dear about the Nightmare animatronics I used to have, I haven't had since I died".
Yukari looked as she giggled. "Still wants too check"
Chris got up as he noticed something. "You made me taller didn't you?".
Yukari as she spoke. "What? Can't I not inch my boyfriend just a bit more?".
Chris rolled his eyes. "You and your weird obsession with making me taller. Next thing I know, I'll be towering over everyone like I'm some kind of final boss."
Yukari smirked, resting her chin on her hand. "Would that really be so bad? Imagine it—Chris Afton, the ultimate unbeatable figure of Gensokyo. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?"
Reimu groaned, rubbing her temples again. "Please don't encourage him. The last thing we need is Chris actually taking that idea seriously."
Chris chuckled, stretching his now slightly longer limbs. "Nah, I'll pass on the final boss treatment. I prefer my freedom. Besides, I already have enough weird things going on with my existence."
Yukari's smirk softened slightly as she observed him. "Speaking of which… are you sure you haven't had any of those dreams lately? Even just a hint of them?"
Chris frowned, crossing his arms. "Nope. Not a single one. Ever since I died, it's been total silence on that front. Why?"
Yukari tapped her fan against her chin. "Hmm… that's strange. Normally, recurring nightmares don't just stop. It almost feels like something… interrupted them."
Reimu narrowed her eyes. "And you think whatever's 'off' about this time has something to do with that?"
Yukari nodded. "It's possible. Dreams, especially nightmares, have a way of connecting to the subconscious and even external forces. If Chris's usual cycle was broken, then something else might have taken its place."
Chris sighed. "Great. Another mystery to add to my already complicated afterlife."
Yukari giggled, poking his cheek. "Oh, don't be so grumpy. At least you got a free height boost out of it."
Chris groaned. "I swear, if you made me taller just so you can have an easier time kissing me—"
Yukari cut him off by pulling him into a quick kiss, smirking against his lips before pulling away. "You're catching on fast~."
Reimu gagged. "Ugh, can we not do this in front of me? Take your flirting elsewhere."
Chris just sighed, shaking his head. "Fine, fine. But we still need to figure out what's actually happening before it gets worse."
Yukari's playful smirk faded as she nodded. "Agreed. And I have a feeling that whatever is interfering… isn't friendly."
Chris then spoke looking at her. "Let's Go too, Cassidy".
Yukari looked at him as she giggled. "Sure, let's go".
She opened a gap and went to Chris's house; it was in the Magic Forest, literally where Chris works helping the lost soul; they opened the door and went to Cassidy and Chris's shared room as Reimu closed her eyes.
Reimu spoke covering her eyes. "Yukari fixes her; I did not need the nightmares; who kills someone like that?".
Chris spoke with a deadpan voice. "My dad, William Afton".
Cassidy spoke. "Just fix me already".
Yukari waved her hand dismissively. "Alright, alright, hold still, little ghost girl."
Cassidy huffed. "I'm not little."
Chris smirked. "You're literally stuck looking like a kid. You don't get to complain."
Cassidy shot him a glare, but before she could retort, Yukari activated her abilities. Gaps of energy swirled around Cassidy, slowly piecing her back together. Her exposed ribs and torn flesh were restored, her missing eye regenerated, and the twisted remnants of her fatal injuries vanished.
As the process finished, Cassidy stretched her arms, sighing. "Much better. Thanks, Yukari."
Yukari smiled. "No problem, dear. Though, really, the universe needs to stop making you two relive your deaths. It's getting a little excessive, don't you think?"
Reimu, now peeking from behind her hands, shook her head. "'Excessive' is an understatement. I see a lot of things in Gensokyo, but this? This is messed up."
Chris flopped onto his bed. "Yeah, tell me about it. You'd think being dead would mean I wouldn't have to deal with this crap anymore."
Cassidy sat beside him, arms crossed. "We should find out why this is happening. It's not just the usual 'anniversary of our deaths' thing. It feels… wrong this time."
Yukari nodded, her expression turning serious. "I thought the same thing. Something is interfering with your usual cycle, but I haven't figured out what yet."
Chris groaned. "Fantastic. Another mystery. What's next? Are we gonna start seeing Nightmare versions of ourselves running around Gensokyo?"
As soon as he said that, the room fell silent.
Reimu, Cassidy, and Yukari all exchanged glances.
Chris sat up. "Wait. No. Don't tell me—"
A sudden crash echoed from outside the house.
A deep, distorted chuckle rumbled through the Magic Forest.
Chris's face paled. "Oh, you have got to be kidding me."
Yukari snapped her finger as they heard a scream. "Not dealing with that today, send whatever that was to the Sin
Then they saw a light in Cassidy's body, as Chris twisted. "Looks like the universe finally decided to make you grow up to look like 18".
Reimu then spoke. "Which means you have one less Loli girl in your harem".
Cassidy blinked as she looked down at herself. Her once-childlike frame had matured into that of an 18-year-old, her features now matching the age she should have been. She ran a hand through her longer hair, feeling the unfamiliar sensation of actually growing.
Chris smirked. "Well, looks like the universe finally decided to stop messing with you in one way."
Cassidy flexed her fingers, testing her new body. "Huh… this is weird. I'm taller. Stronger, too." She clenched her fist, feeling the difference in her spectral energy. "I don't feel… stuck anymore."
Reimu sighed in relief. "Well, at least that's one less loli running around. Gensokyo has enough of those already."
Yukari giggled, clearly amused. "Oh, but Chris, does that mean you have to reevaluate your preferences?"
Chris rolled his eyes. "Oh, shut up. Cassidy's Cassidy, no matter what she looks like."
Cassidy smirked. "Damn right I am."
Then, another boom echoed from outside.
Chris groaned. "Yukari, what exactly did you send into the Sin?"
Yukari shrugged. "Does it matter? Not our problem anymore."
Reimu facepalmed. "We are so going to regret that later."
Cassidy looked at her chest as she wished. "Damm I am stacked".
Reimu looked at her chest as she spoke. "Same size as Mine and Marisa".
Cassidy sighed as a sheep spoke. "I was hoping for something like Yukari or Junko size".
Chris chuckled, shaking his head. "Cass, you just aged up from looking like a kid. Maybe don't get greedy?"
Cassidy pouted. "Hey, if the universe is finally giving me a body, might as well go big or go home!"
Yukari smirked. "Oh? You want to be my size?"
Cassidy's eyes sparkled. "You offering?"
Reimu groaned. "Oh gods, please don't encourage her, Yukari."
Chris snorted. "Cassidy, trust me, you do not want Yukari messing with your proportions. Who knows what else she'll change?"
Cassidy crossed her arms, looking at Yukari with suspicion. "Yeah… on second thought, I like having normal balance."
Yukari giggled. "Smart girl~"
Chris stretched, feeling his body fully healed. "Alright, now that the time of the month crisis is over, what's next?"
As if answering his question, another explosion echoed from outside.
Reimu groaned. "You just had to ask, didn't you?"
They went outside flying, as they saw something at made Chris grones. "Nightmare".
Yukari looked as she spoke. "One for the Nightmare Animatronics".
Chris grinned as he spoke. "No, it's The Nightmare Animatronics, basically the thing that represented death to me when I was in the hospital bed".
Cassidy crossed her arms. "Great. Just when I thought we were done reliving our deaths, they show up."
Reimu narrowed her eyes at the approaching figures. "So, these are the things you used to see before you died?"
Chris nodded. "Yeah, when I was in a coma, they haunted me every night. I thought they were just hallucinations from brain damage… but nope, turns out they're real enough to show up in Gensokyo."
The group watched as the Nightmare Animatronics emerged from the shadows—hulking, twisted versions of their original forms, with razor-sharp teeth, glowing eyes, and metal exoskeletons exposed through tattered fur.
Nightmare Fredbear took a step forward, its voice a guttural growl. "You can't escape us, Chris. You never could."
Chris cracked his knuckles, his wings spreading wide. "Oh, I so am not in the mood for this."
Yukari smirked. "Want some help?"
Chris grinned. "Nah, I got this."
Without another word, he shot forward, magic crackling around him as he prepared to face the creatures that once haunted his nightmares.
Chris then spoke, flying down, as he looked at Nightmares Freddbear, the only one that showed up. "I am gonna so enjoy this".
He then stopped times and pulled out his spell book as he summoned his golden Chain. "Let's see, which Curse should I use".
Chris then spoke. "Also this for Halloween, Hex of getting lost, Hex Of Burning, Curse of binding".
As Chris chanted, dark energy crackled around him, his golden chains glowing ominously as they wrapped tighter around Nightmare Fredbear.
"Hex of Getting Lost—Enjoy wandering aimlessly in the void, never knowing where you are."
"Hex of Burning—Feel the flames that you once used to terrify others."
"Curse of Binding—And just in case you think of running, these chains will make sure you stay put."
Nightmare Fredbear thrashed violently, its guttural growls turning into distorted screams as the hexes took effect. Its form flickered, struggling against the bindings, but Chris's magic was absolute.
Yukari chuckled. "How festive of you, cursing a nightmare animatronic on Halloween."
Cassidy smirked, arms crossed. "Kind of poetic justice if you ask me."
Reimu sighed. "You better not be setting off some Halloween horror event with all this dark magic."
Chris shrugged, floating closer to Nightmare Fredbear. "Well, if something does happen, it's not my problem. Besides, I think it's time we disposed of this thing."
With a snap of his fingers, the golden chains pulled tight—Nightmare Fredbear let out one final roar before it was swallowed by a swirling void of darkness, banished to a realm where its nightmares would never end.
Chris dusted off his hands. "And that is how you handle your childhood trauma."
Reimu then spoke as she whistled. "After seeing all of this, I see why so many girls in Gensokyo are in love with you, you are as insane as all of them".
Chris held his head as he spoke. "I had my frontal loap bitten through when I was alive".
Cassidy crossed her arms with a smirk. "Yeah, we kinda have an excuse for being unhinged. Dying brutally does things to a person."
Yukari giggled, resting her chin on Chris's shoulder. "That's what makes you so charming, dear~. A bit of madness makes life interesting, don't you think?"
Chris sighed. "At this point, I just roll with it." He stretched, cracking his neck. "Now that that is taken care of, what's next? More curses? Another incident? Or do I get some actual rest before Gensokyo throws another problem at me?"
Reimu shrugged. "Knowing this place? You'll probably get five minutes before something else happens."
Right on cue, a loud explosion echoed across the sky.
Chris groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Of course."
Cassidy smirked. "Wanna bet it's another lunarian invasion, some rogue yokai, or another girl joining your harem?"
Yukari opened a gap, peeking through. "Oh my~. It looks like all three."
Chris sighed, summoning his spell book again. "Alright, let's get this over with."
