Liam was speechless after hearing the near-impossible task.
"Are you joking right now?" he asked, looking incredulous.
He stared at the Faceless God as if trying to comprehend the absurdity of it all. Surely, an omnipotent being wouldn't be this foolish?
"No, I'm not," the Faceless God replied, his tone utterly nonchalant.
Liam scoffed.
"If that's the case, how do you expect someone as weak as me to accomplish something so impossible?
And besides, with your power, can't you just do it yourself?"
The god merely chuckled in response.
"Haha… Who said you'd be weak like you are now?"
His massive eye gleamed with amusement.
"I'm going to gift you some very special abilities. And I believe these abilities will make you powerful enough to complete this task."
He then smirked, adding with an almost playful tone,
"As for why I won't do it? Well... let's just say... I'm too lazy."
Liam understood—mostly—but not entirely.
Instead of dwelling on it, he asked curiously, "So, what abilities are you going to give me?"
The Faceless God chuckled.
"Haha! Straight to business, huh? I like that, Liam. You don't waste time."
He then gestured toward something that hadn't been there before—a glass-like sphere filled with multiple glowing, colorful eggs. It had materialized into existence with a mere command.
"You can choose three from here," the Faceless God announced.
Liam narrowed his eyes, inspecting the strange sight.
"Look closely. Each egg will grant you a random divine ability," the god continued, his smirk widening. "So, choose wisely."
His massive eye gleamed with subtle curiosity, watching Liam's every move.
Liam's eyes fixated on the sphere of glowing eggs, carefully observing them.
Each egg was identical in size and shape, but they came in three distinct colors—blue, red, and black.
After a moment of silent observation, he turned to the Faceless God.
"If I'm understanding this correctly, these colors represent different ranks of abilities," he said, raising an eyebrow. "So… can I choose all three from the same color, or am I limited to one of each?"
The Faceless God affirmed,
"You're right. You can only choose one from each color. Now, go on. Everything depends on your luck."
He paused briefly before adding, "But don't worry. These abilities will serve as your auxiliary strength. Your true power lies within you, Liam. You have the greatest potential to succeed. That fire and determination in you... it will carry you through."
Liam, however, merely waved a hand dismissively, uninterested in what he considered empty words.
Because Liam considered himself just another useless guy, someone who would need all the help he could get to complete this deal.
Without another thought, he strode forward, ready to choose his eggs, no his abilities.
As his hand reached into the glass-like sphere, he immediately felt the eggs. Their surfaces were smooth and glossy, resembling bird eggs in size. Yet, each one carried an unsettling sensation. Some were cold, others hot, pulsating with something unnerving locked inside.
Without hesitation, he picked three eggs one by one, relying solely on luck to decide his fate.
With the three eggs carefully placed in his palms, Liam held them out to the Faceless God.
"These three… Now, can you tell me what abilities they hold?"
The entity leaned in closer, inspecting the eggs with curiosity.
"Ohh… You have quite the luck, Liam," he mused. "Wait—let me show you what abilities you've obtained."
With a flick of his fingers, an invisible force surrounded the eggs, revealing their hidden nature—
Trickster's Eyes: A rare ability that allows the wielder to see the truth in someone's words by glimpsing into their soul. Your eyes may glow when activated.
Primodial Warlord: A once-in-a- thousand years passive ability that enables you to learn any kind of Summoner's Arts or Weapon Arts with great efficiency.
At the last egg, which was the black one, he paused momentarily, as if he couldn't read it for a second there.
He felt strange, as this shouldn't have happened to an entity like him.
But soon, the information revealed itself before his eyes.
Acquisition: A legendary ability that grants you the power to tame any kind of beast, whether it be a wandering ghost ora ferocious creature.
"There you go. These three are perfect for the task, don't you think?" The Faceless God smirked after revealing the abilities to Liam.
Liam nodded.
The abilities were indeed perfect for his needs in an unfamiliar world. Almost too perfect.
Before he could dwell on it further, the Faceless God flicked his wrist, sending the eggs flying toward him.
Liam instinctively reached out to catch them—but before his hands could even touch them, the eggs pierced directly into his body, vanishing inside him.
A sudden shockwave of energy surged through him. He felt something strange, something unnatural shifting deep within his being.
The Faceless God, however, stood there completely unfazed, watching with his usual amused expressionless face.
When Liam finally steadied himself, the god spoke once more.
"Now, you're all set, Liam. Be prepared... I'm transferring your soul into a dying young man's body. Your journey begins from there."
Liam sighed, rubbing his temples. "I'm ready… but a dying body? Seriously?"
He shot the god an annoyed glare. "At the very least, you could make sure I get a healthy one, right?"
The Faceless God chuckled.
"Haha… No need to complain. The body will be completely functional once you take over. Consider it an extra blessing from me."
Then, with a mischievous grin, he added, "Oh, and yes—you'll be able to reproduce with it."
Liam rolled his eyes. "Alright, alright. No need to bring up my embarrassing past. Just send me away already. I've had enough of looking at your ugly face."
The Faceless God didn't seem the least bit angry at Liam's blatant disrespect.
Instead, he simply smiled.
"Let's see if you can still say that about my face after you survive," he mused. Then, as if remembering something, he added, "Oh, and one more thing that I forgot to mention. If you die there, there will be no second chance.
Not only your memories but your entire existence will be erased."
Liam, however, remained unshaken. His expression was eerily calm as he responded,
"What do I even have to lose, anyway? If I fail… I still wouldn't have any regrets."
The Faceless God paused at Liam's words, his single eye observing him with an unreadable expression.
Then, with a pleased smile, he flicked his finger.
And just like that—
Plop!
Liam was nowhere in sight.
The only thing that remained was the Faceless God's eerie smile.
"Let's meet again, Liam…" he murmured,
"Don't end up like the failed ones."
