Chapter 57 - The Black Market

As I made my way toward the monster's lifeless body, the echoes of the battle still fresh in my mind, something caught my eye. A large crystal lay nestled among the scattered debris, its surface gleaming with a dazzling array of colors—fiery reds, deep blues, earthy greens, and soft whites. Its multifaceted surface caught the light in a way that made it almost hypnotic, as if it were alive. Beside it, a skill book caught my attention, its cover well-worn but still intact. I reached down and picked them both up, the weight of potential pressing into my hands.

[Crystal of Elemental Fusion]

Description:

The Crystal of Elemental Fusion is a radiant gem that pulses with the essence of all elemental forces—fire, water, earth, and air.

Effects:

Fusion Enhancement: When fused with any weapon, this crystal unlocks its hidden potential, significantly boosting the weapon's base attack power.

Elemental Affinity: The fusion grants the user the ability to channel elemental energies, imbuing their attacks with fire, ice, lightning, or earth effects.

[Webshot Skill]

Description:

The Webshot skill allows the user to shoot energy-infused webs at enemies or the environment.

Effects:

Ensnare: Shoot a web at an enemy to immobilize them for a short duration, leaving them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.

Traversal: Use the webs to swing across gaps or scale surfaces, enhancing mobility both in combat and exploration.

I couldn't help but grin. "So, now I can become Spider-Man, huh?" I chuckled, my voice filled with excitement. "And this crystal... definitely worth the effort. Still, I have two days before the midterm, and the written exam comes first. I should also upgrade my sword." My gaze shifted to the crystal, its colors reflecting off my eager face.

"But I need to find a good blacksmith, someone skilled. Maybe a dwarf. Or perhaps the black market is my best bet... There's bound to be someone capable there." I thought about it for a moment, then eyed my sword. It had served me well, but it was starting to feel inadequate.

After collecting my rewards, I headed toward the exit portal. The cool air hit my face as I stepped through, invigorating my senses.

Once outside, I sold the monster's remains to the Dungeon Association, earning a decent sum of money. With my pockets feeling heavier, I checked into a hotel for six hours. I didn't return to the dorm since there were no classes for the next few hours. Although training at the academy was an option, I craved practical experience, so I decided to take a break.

I arrived at my room on the second floor, kicked the door open, and tossed my clothes aside. Eager to wash off the blood and grime of battle, I made my way to the bathroom. After soaking in warm water for about an hour, I emerged feeling rejuvenated, though my stomach reminded me of its emptiness. I quickly ordered a feast fit for a warrior.

While waiting for my food, I grabbed my phone and called my father. After a few moments of contemplation, he asked why I needed information about the black market. I explained that I was looking for a great blacksmith to enhance my sword.

"There's a black market in the Luo Pavilion, located in Astria City," he said. "Just wear a mask to conceal your identity."

Once I finished my meal and caught a few hours of sleep, I set out for the Luo Pavilion. When I arrived, I couldn't help but admire its grandiose structure. The building towered above me, adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant banners that fluttered in the breeze. Without hesitation, I stepped inside.

The market was bustling with activity, merchants shouting their wares, customers bargaining over prices, and the air thick with the scent of exotic goods. I maneuvered through the crowd, my heart beating faster with anticipation. I knew I needed to find a specific section where an old man was rumored to work.

As I turned a corner, I spotted him—an elderly figure with a long, white beard and eyes that seemed to sparkle with unspoken knowledge. He was meticulously polishing a sword, his movements smooth and practiced. There was something about him that reassured me; he was a true master of his craft.

I approached him, sword in hand. "Excuse me, sir," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "Could you polish my sword?"

He glanced up, his eyes widening as he took in the blade. "Ah, what a magnificent weapon you have! The craftsmanship is exquisite. Where did you acquire such a fine sword?"

Pride swelled in my chest as I recounted my journey, explaining how the sword had come into my possession. After polishing it, he asked, "Is there anything else you require, dear customer?"

This was my moment. I drew a deep breath and recited the secret code I had memorized, a poetic phrase meant to unlock the old man's true services.

"In the heart of the blade, where beauty blooms,

A flower of strength, in shadows it looms.

With every swing, let the essence be clear,

A dance of the elements, drawing near."

The old man's eyes sparkled with recognition. He nodded slowly, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Ah, a seeker of true craftsmanship! Tell me, what is it you desire?"

I answered carefully, sharing my aspirations and the journey that had led me here. "I seek not just a polish, but an enhancement that will elevate my sword to its fullest potential."

He studied me for a long moment, his gaze sharp yet kind. "And what makes a sword worthy of greatness?"

"Strength lies not only in the blade but in the heart of its wielder," I said, the weight of my words grounding me. "A sword is not just steel; it is an extension of the spirit, a reflection of the one who wields it."

The old man smiled, clearly satisfied with my answer. "You possess the heart of a true warrior." He handed me a beautifully engraved card, its surface shimmering faintly. "Use your mana to activate this card, and it will lead you to the finest bladesmith in this place."

"Thank you, sir," I said, my voice full of gratitude. I took the card, and after stepping away to a quieter corner of the market, I focused my energy. With the card in hand, I whispered, "I want to meet the best bladesmith here." As I channeled my mana into the card, a warm light enveloped me. In an instant, I vanished from the bustling market.

"What the hell?"
