Ning Tian ignored Dai Mubai, not bothering to join Zhu Zhuqing either. He nodded to her and took a spot aside. Ning Rongrong slid between him and Oscar.

She smirked at Dai Mubai's scowl. "Looks like he's dead set on fighting you for Zhuqing."

"He can try.," Ning Tian said, already plotting ways to mess with him.

As they talked, Ma Hongjun arrived with Tang San and Xiao Wu. Xiao Wu still looked annoyed, while Tang San followed with a sheepish grin. Seeing Ning Tian, Xiao Wu brightened and skipped over to his side. Tang San trailed, awkward but relieved.

Even an idiot could see something had happened. Oscar nudged Ma Hongjun, eyeing his bandage. "Fatty, what's up?"

Ma Hongjun checked that Ning Tian and Dai Mubai weren't listening, then whispered to Oscar. Oscar's eyes widened, barely hiding a laugh at Dai Mubai's expense. He sighed, bummed he'd missed it but glad Ning Tian wasn't after Ning Rongrong—his own odds with her were shaky enough.

Dean Flender swooped in, eyeing the eight students. "Not bad—five new monsters this year. I'm Flender, your dean. Welcome. After this, pay Teacher Li Yusong a hundred gold soul coins each. Little Ao and Rongrong, stay. The rest, rest up for your first lesson tonight."

Oscar slumped but perked up when Ning Rongrong stayed too.

Ning Tian knew Flender's plan and didn't care to linger. He pulled a thousand-jin barbell plate from his soul guide belt, slung it over his shoulder, and jogged off around the village.

The others stared.

Ning Rongrong turned to Xiao Wu. "Does he always train like that?"

"Almost daily," Xiao Wu said, shrugging. She couldn't keep up with him, Ning Tian was a beast, and she'd rather enjoy herself.

Ma Hongjun shivered. "No wonder he's a freak."

Tang San piped up. "You shouldn't mimic him. My teacher said overtraining harms growing bodies."

Everyone, including Flender, glanced at Tang San, then at Ning Tian's chiseled frame, their faces screaming disbelief.

Flender spotted Tang San's Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges belt, marking him as Yu Xiaogang's student. He coughed. "Rongrong, Little Ao run twenty laps around the village. Rest of you, recover. Tang San, come with me."

Zhu Zhuqing slipped off to the grove where Ning Tian had coached her that morning.

Dai Mubai, still mad, didn't follow.

Ma Hongjun vanished next.

Ning Rongrong and Oscar started their laps.

With Tang San gone and no one to chat with, Xiao Wu decided to cultivate in her dorm, unwilling to lag behind Ning Tian's Spirit Elder rank.

........

Ning Rongrong barely finished one lap before gasping. She summoned her Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda to boost her speed, catching catching up Ning Tian

"Tired yet?" she panted, watching him jog with the weight like it was nothing.

"I am used to it," Ning Tian said. Tang Hao's endless energy kept him going.

Ning Rongrong's eyes glinted. "Skip the run and hit Suotuo City with me. My treat."

"Trying to ditch your laps and bribe me to keep quiet?" Ning Tian teased.

She grinned. "Yep. Help me out, and I'll hype you up to Zhuqing."

"Nah, I'm not done training. Don't worry, I won't snitch," Ning Tian said, brushing her off.

He knew Flender was spying but didn't tip her off. Flender's task was a setup from Ning Fengzhi to toughen her up. Shrek was perfect for humbling rich kids—too bad Ning Fengzhi didn't see Tang San and Yu Xiaogang twisting her later. Ning Tian wanted the Heart Separation Control technique and Sword Douluo's help, so he'd shape Ning Rongrong his way. Better she turn on Tang San than him.

"Thanks! I'll talk you up to Zhuqing anyway," she shouted as he sped off.

Ning Tian waved and kept running, finishing twenty-five laps by noon.

He switched to bodyweight drills: a thousand sit-ups, push-ups, squats, and lateral jumps.

In the afternoon he honed his swordsmanship. To drain Tang Hao faster, he cranked his training to ten times his initial intensity.
