Chapter 8
After taking a moment to calm down, I finally spoke. "I think I know which class I'm going to pick."
Nike shifted onto his side, still watching me. The glow of the crystals made his body shimmer, casting an almost ethereal light around him. I found myself staring, feeling a sudden warmth creeping up my face before quickly refocusing.
"I think I'll go with Witch Doctor," I continued. "It'll bring some utility, help out if you or the mobs need healing, and if we ever have to make a last stand, poisons and toxins could buy us time." The logic felt solid—after all, having a healer in desperate moments could mean the difference between survival and failure.
Nike nodded in understanding before grinning. "I've decided on mine too. Plus, it has some bonuses for guides and dungeon cores." He paused dramatically before proudly declaring, "Beast Master! And when your snakes get stronger, I wanna bond with one as my permanent companion."
I nodded at the idea, though curiosity nagged at me. "Why Beast Master? Why not something more defensive?"
Nike responded almost instantly, excitement brimming in his voice. "First off, I'm small and don't have much strength. If you wanted, you could just bend me over and have your way with me." He smirked and stuck his tongue out in a playful, teasing manner, fully aware of the effect his words would have on me. My face instantly burned with embarrassment, and I struggled to keep my composure.
"Second," he continued, "even if I went for something defensive, most monster classes are designed for killing, not protecting. The only exceptions are healing-based ones like Witch Doctor or Shaman. But if I become a Beast Master, I can tame a powerful creature to do the fighting for me! That way, I can send in my pets while you heal and keep enemies at bay."
A smile crept across my face as I considered his reasoning. The more I thought about it, the more certain I became about my own choice. "Sounds like we should be looking for a big beast for you, then. Maybe something large enough to ride into battle." I laughed, finally starting to relax. Everything seemed to be coming together.
"Alright," I said, "how do we actually obtain our classes?"
Nike perked up, eager to explain. "First, open your template and hover over the class slot. Click on it, and it'll bring up a list of available options. Once you select your class, you'll undergo a trial—it'll feel like you're leaving your body. If you pass, you'll obtain the class. You'll have to go through similar trials at every major tier advancement, like from Copper to Bronze, Silver, and so on."
He gave me a sly grin. "Lucky for us, since we're a dungeon core and guide, we'll level up faster than the average delver."
That was an interesting piece of information—I hadn't realized I would level at an accelerated pace. A sense of excitement filled me. This world held so much potential, and now I had the power to build something amazing while also protecting my friends and anyone I cared about.
Following Nike's instructions, I pulled up my template and hovered over the empty class slot. A list of options appeared, and my eyes widened in surprise. There were choices I hadn't even imagined, including some that seemed downright ridiculous. I nearly burst out laughing when I saw a class based entirely on cheese.
Shaking off my amusement, I scrolled down until I found Witch Doctor. My finger hovered over it for a second before I made my choice.
The moment I selected it, everything around me faded into darkness.
The trial had begun. When the light came back on. I looked around to see a white void surrounding me untill a panel appeared.
You have chosen which doctor
Please choose subclass
Warning while both subclasses can do both healing and damage one subclass can do one better than the other. Please pick between medicine man and poisoner. Honestly both seem like they filled similar roles and the system did state that they can do more or less the same stuff just to lesser degree. So I picked medicine man as my subclass. 3 abilities unlocked
Dark heal
Jinxed
Shadow bolt
2 new subclass abilities unlocked
Detect juju
Ooga booga
Please pick which faction you wana make a pact with
The forgotten gods: gods who no longer receive proper worship and are starving. Warning this faction comes with dangers but the rewards can lead to powerful prospects. Recommended sub class poisoner.
Wild gods: these beings are animal demigods who traverse the world there are many and most are unheard of three to chose from due to distance. Both subclass would work well for this
Loa: everything has a soul even rocks. Loa are the gods of the dead who make pacts with witch doctors for unique abilities. Warning many of the loa are savage and can push those they made a pact with to do some strange practices.
Well if those are my choices I won't be choosing the old gods that sounds like some eldritch abomination that shouldn't even be acknowledged. My body shaken with a shiver. I then covered over the wild gods not selecting them but trying to gather more information.
Wild gods : animal demigods these beings traverse the world most go unnoticed. Three wild gods near by. Thiga the toxic : thiga is a toxic frog demigod and resides in the swamp that resides nearby.
Quets the serpent: this serpent is known to be harsh but fair its poison can be distilled into power potions or used on darts for poison
Beatrix the royal: a queen bee demigod she has influence over bees hornets and similar creatures that reside under her.
Note chosing any of them isn't final you can make a pact with all three if you earn there trust for now only one will make a pact.
