Chapter 3 - The silent witness

The car pulled up at the entrance of the venue. Mrs. Winter smiled at Vivienne, "Viv, come on."

The driver opened the door, and Vivienne got out of the car, followed by Mr. and Mrs. Winter. She took a good look at the venue, it was one of the best luxury banquet halls in the city, exclusive to the elite families. Even getting a reservation here for a brief dinner would cost middle-class people a fortune.

The entrance was beautifully decorated, two security guards stood at two sides of the door, checking everyone's invitation before letting them inside. Vivienne headed inside with her parents.

But, the second wave of shock awaited her.

The moment she stepped inside, her eyes widened in shock!

Like her engagement dress, the engagement venue was also decorated the same way she'd seen it in her dreams! The stage, ornate with white flowers and origami designs, the tables and chairs covered with golden and white cloth, the chandelier casting a golden glow, the intricate tapestries, everything was,

Same!

'How's that even possible? What's really happening!'

Panic rushed over her pulse. Whatever was happening, was extremely odd! From her engagement dress to the venue, how could it be so similar, so known to her?

"Viv, what happened?"

Vivienne didn't know when her steps halted, hearing a well-known voice, she looked in front of her. Her brother, Gabriel, stood in front of her with a soft smile on his face.

"Why did you stop mid-way? Aren't you feeling well?" He asked, frowning.

Vivienne smiled at him. "No, I was just... too occupied with thoughts."

"Silly girl!" He patted her head. "Come on." Grabbing her hand he headed towards the hall.

The hall was almost full. Most of the invitees had already arrived; their laughter, chatter, and the sound of the clinking of the glasses filled the place. Soft music lingered in the air. A perfect arrangement for an engagement.

Vivienne walked with Gabriel to the table where the Ashford family was sitting. Seeing her coming, Maria Ashford, the eldest member of the Ashford family, and Damien's grandma, stood up, and a wide smile appeared on her face.

"Vivienne! You look, beautiful!" She caressed her cheeks. Vivienne hugged her, "Not more than you!" She said, in a mischievous tone. Maria had always liked her, and Vivienne liked her, too. She was in her seventies, but still, had a warm and welcoming aura; a truly evergreen woman.

She greeted Damien's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ashford; then her eyes searched for the person she wanted to see the most now.

'Where's Damien?' She thought.

Maria seemed to understand what she was thinking; she winked at her and whispered in her ear, pointing towards a corridor. "He's in the dressing room, the second room on the left side."

Vivienne blushed and, after having a small talk, excused her. Her parents were busy talking with the guests, and Gabriel was also not around her. She thought for a few seconds, then headed towards the corridor. The corridor ended at the washrooms, with rooms at both sides of it, a total of four. She stood in front of the second room on the left side, then with slight hesitation, turned the doorknob, stepping inside.

The room was empty. 'Didn't Grandma say he's in the second room?' Vivienne thought inwardly. She was impatient, she wanted to show him the dress he'd prepared for her. She wanted to see the look of fascination in his eyes. She dressed for him.

'Maybe, he'd left the room already.' Thinking, she turned to leave, but her steps halted.

A strange sound was coming from the bathroom! There was someone inside. It was unfamiliar, a sound that caught Vivienne off guard.

'I should leave.' She was about to step out when she heard a very familiar voice! No, she didn't get it wrong; it was Damien. But... What was he doing inside?

Curious but reluctant, Vivienne walked towards the bathroom, without making a sound. That eery feeling again captured her mind; with that, different thoughts started coming into her mind.

Vivienne stopped in front of the bathroom door and then pushed it a little. The door wasn't locked; reluctantly, she peeked inside.

And... She froze.

Damien stood inside the shower stall, with one hand on the wall to support himself. His other hand...

Her eyes traveled through the direction of his hand, fixed in between his legs.

The moment she realized what he was doing, she felt embarrassed! Her cheeks flushed, and she bit her lips.

But the next moment...

She never thought she would hear something like this, from Damien's mouth!

Damien groaned, the words that came out of his mouth gave her a shock.

"Oh, Sarah!"

His voice was muffled, mixed with heavy pants.

Sarah! Why was he calling her sister's name, that also... In such a state!

Vivienne couldn't believe her ears! She leaned in a little more, and then... Everything became clear to her.

The edge of the front wall had been cut into a notch to create a shelf, where he kept his mobile phone. The shelf was in a place where Vivienne could see everything clearly from there, but because she was behind the door, no one could see her.

He was on a video call. And the person she saw on the screen was, Sarah! Her sister! Completely naked! Her hands moved through her body, touching her private parts; soft moans left her mouth continuously. Damien was also in no better state! He groaned, moving his hand faster and faster. His eyes were fluttered open with pleasure! They were pleasing each other over the phone!

Soon, they were done. Damien took the phone in his hand, his breath was still uneven. "I love you, Sarah." He whispered.

Sarah replied something from the other side, that she couldn't hear. But in reply, Damien laughed, "Come on! You know it better; I only love you. Stop worrying about it, she'll never be able to come between us."

His voice was smooth, filled with affection.

"When are you coming? I miss you." He said softly. "Come fast, I'm waiting for you. And..." He smirked. "Don't forget! See you tonight."

After that, he hung up the call, slipping it into his trousers pocket. Standing in front of the mirror, he tidied himself a bit.

Silent, Vivienne left the room hurriedly, locking herself up inside the room opposite it. Her eyes were misted, face reddened.

She was betrayed.

On her engagement day, she had found out that she had been deceived all along.
