Chapter 61: Selling All of Loguetown
Loguetown was a prosperous large town, both before and after Smoker's arrival.
Before he came, there was a subtle balance between pirates and Marines. It served as a transit point, generating considerable economic activity.
After he arrived, although the pirates disappeared and much of the chaos subsided, it also stimulated commercial vitality.
The number of shops open here was unknown.
Following Sag's rules, the pirates didn't target the civilians living in the small buildings. In fact, they looked down on such people; there were better targets waiting for them to rob.
Expensive clothes in clothing stores were swarmed by pirates still wearing prison uniforms. They emerged carrying large bundles of well-made clothes. Some even changed on the spot, stripping off their prison garb and putting on the new clothes, regardless of whether the style suited them, creating a strange, motley appearance.
Weapons from weapon shops, often costing hundreds of thousands or even millions of Beli, were also taken away wholesale by them. The tall pirate from before, the one who was over three meters tall with half his tongue missing, even chose a giant *tachi* that matched his height and began battling the Marines who came to fight. With just one swing of his sword, he cut down several Marines.
Of course, the Marine base had more than just the Marines at the port. There were also some Marines who hadn't had time to provide support or go back to adjust their equipment. Now, seeing the pirates attack, they naturally came to stop them, but in terms of numbers, they were no match for Sag's group.
The pirates battled the Marines while continuing to loot wildly throughout Loguetown. Besides clothes and weapons, there were, of course, the most important jewelry stores – those were the things they should prioritize robbing.
From time to time, ten or twenty pirates could be seen breaking down the door of a jewelry shop, plundering everything inside, emerging draped in jewelry on their hands, necks, and bodies, laughing heartily.
This place held everything they wanted, enough to give their six hundred-plus subordinates a complete makeover.
"Let's leave it at that. Once they've made enough noise, we'll tally the spoils. Lily, you should go look around too. When girls go shopping, don't they pick out something nice?"
Sag himself, of course, didn't participate in the robbery. Anyway, half of the loot was his, and his two hands couldn't carry much spoils anyway. It was better to leave it to his subordinates.
"I'm not really interested. As long as I get my share, it's fine," Lily said.
She was a cadre. She would get a share even if she didn't participate in the robbery, and she wasn't that enthusiastic about robbing in the first place.
Except for Gin, who was relatively conscientious, the other cadres seemed rather indifferent to this matter. Renettia similarly had little interest in treasure; after arriving in town, she went off to pick out useful equipment.
Marika was interested in the local food supplies and went to the food market.
Lily stayed by Sag's side.
"But you, Sag, what are *we* going to do?" Lily asked.
"Of course, find information..."
Sag stopped at the entrance of a dark alley and smiled, "This was once a meeting place for pirates. It's only been peaceful for a few years; many things still exist, like here..."
He pointed to a protruding sign inside the alley featuring a wine glass. "An old tavern like this, opened in such a dark place, looks like a place where pirates often gathered. For example, this..."
Just as he was speaking, he suddenly paused, looking at the text below the sign and stuttering, "Um, this..."
"Gold Roger."
Lily read it out loud. "A tavern named after the Pirate King."
"Right, this is the kind of place. Let's go in!" Sag nodded, led Lily into the alley, pushed open the small wooden door, and entered the tavern.
This tavern, naturally, had no customers.
Such a remote place, and the lighting was poor, likely dark all year round. It was impossible for anyone to come here to drink.
And the decor and layout of the shop were relatively old, more like an old tavern from twenty or thirty years ago, completely different from the modern, brightly lit bars. In such a bustling town, it certainly wouldn't attract customers.
And this kind of establishment... wasn't prepared for ordinary customers.
"Sorry, our shop doesn't serve..."
The old man wiping a wine glass behind the bar heard the noise, turned around, and was about to speak. But seeing the newcomer's white hair, he subconsciously paused and glanced at the wall.
He certainly didn't recognize them, but that didn't stop the owner from recognizing the bounty poster pasted on the wall. That bounty poster even featured this guy's wild laugh.
"Bring me a good drink. Don't serve me that cheap rum," Sag said, found a seat, and propped his feet up on the table.
Lily thought for a moment, took out a gold coin, and placed it on the counter.
The old man took out a bottle from the wine cabinet, added ice cubes and mixed it with other liquors, turning it into an orange-red color. He then looked at Lily. "This lady, you..."
"Something lighter," Lily said, sitting down beside Sag.
The old man nodded, mixed another drink, put them on a tray, placed it on their table, and only then said, "You've come at the wrong time. If you had waited a bit longer, you could have just walked in. Coming here so brazenly now, aren't you afraid of being surrounded by the Marines?"
"Isn't it normal for pirates to be surrounded by Marines? As long as you're a pirate, you can't escape it! Ho-hahahaha!"
Sag laughed, drained the orange-red liquid in his glass in one gulp, then suddenly froze, letting out a breath. "That's strong, but it's indeed good wine!"
"Oh..."
The old man's eyes lit up. "Were you also attracted by the name 'Pirate King'? Interested in Roger's stories? Norton Sag."
"No, not interested at all."
Sag shook his head. "I don't really like listening to other people's stories. I came here because I thought an old tavern like yours probably had many old patrons. I wanted to find some information."
"What information?" the old man asked.
"Help me contact the black market merchants. You'll be well compensated." Sag pushed the empty glass forward. "I want to sell them something."
A large town, especially one close to the Grand Line, a bustling town where dragons and snakes mingled (idiom: good and bad people mixed) a few years ago, where pirates and Marines coexisted – how could there not be black market merchants?
The things he robbed were of unknown origin. They couldn't be legitimately exchanged for Beli anywhere. Even if merchants accepted them, they would haggle down the price. And depending on the type of goods, he would have to find different merchants.
It was better to sell them uniformly to black market merchants and dispose of them directly.
An old tavern like this definitely had such shady dealings.
"Oh... what do you want to sell? Gold?" The old man was stunned for a moment, a trace of reminiscence in his eyes, but he quickly recovered.
Indeed, it had been a long time since he had done something like this.
"Not gold..."
Sag grinned at him, his chilling white teeth speaking words that made the old man break out in a cold sweat. "I want to sell all of Loguetown!"
