Chapter 28 - [Chapter —28]

Time moved fast when he was focused on Magic.

That's what Markus came to realise as Monday finally kicked in and he had to go to school.

He had the mind to just immediately split himself and create a clone already just so he would skip this moment of his life.

But he quickly dashed that thought down. He still needed that deed and keys to his new warehouse before he would experiment with that ability.

He didn't know whether the clones could be dismissed or not so he was playing it safe.

Though something of note while going through his classes were the eyes centred around him.

All of them from people he knew.

One being Lydia probably due to their previous conversation from how she longingly looked at him.

Another was from Allison who looked at him with more suspicion than normal.

Then of course there was his brother, who might he add hadn't been at home for most of the time and hadn't been able to talk to for the previous day's.

His stares had only intensified when he had been invited to lunch by Allison and Lydia— Meaning that he had to sit on the 'cool' table even if he didn't want to draw attention to himself.

Something to note though while they were talking was that Allison was pissed at Scott for ditching her at Lydia's on Saturday.

Something that he fuelled more fire into just because he was starting to dislike the glares the boy sent his way.

At this point he wouldn't be surprised even if Scott started stalking Allison with how fucked up he was starting to become.

Though he thought maybe this was due to his changes, something like werewolf puberty if you will.

Back at the school part though, he hadn't really had much hope for anything interesting happening in school today until he had just been changing in the lacrosse locker rooms.

Almost everyone had rushed to the field already, he on the other hand was taking his time.

More so due to him already having gotten tired of the game again.

He had went back in the first place just to complete that task he had been given. But now that it was completed, he felt like there was no point.

But after Lydia had insisted profusely that he go today due to a comment about leaving early today he had no choice but to come.

Not due to Lydia though.

You see, after Lydia had asked him not to skip lacrosse training he had obtained a task.

[—Mission: Cemented Dominance.

—Description: Yo've already paved the foot stones in order to become the best of the best in your team while allowing you to undermine your brother further.

Appear in the lacrosse practice and once more dominate the playing field.

—Rewards: Skill— ???.]

He had obtained a task.

He had been wondering why he hadn't been obtaining those after the first set.

Though after he obtained this task he had a working hypothesis to work on. The task had only appeared after Lydia's insistence, so that could only mean that tasks weren't so randomly given but needed outside triggers.

He also suspected that he obtained the task due to the fact that she was one of this world's protagonists.

So that meant that in order to obtain tasks he'd need to be more hands on in the plot, he didn't like that at all due to the fact that he wasn't so confident in his ability to deal with the many threats in this world yet.

Plus, he didn't really feel like following his little brother around like a lost puppy just in hopes that he obtained more tasks.

So that left him little routes to chose from.

One of them and this being the one he was leaning on going through was befriending those that would have joined Scott on his bullshit adventures.

Already he had an in with Lydia due to her messed up feeling for him, it would be easy to play her in depending on him instead of little Scott.

Then there was Allison. They were friend's already, he thought anyway. There were still a many things he still didn't know of her as this version of her was definitely not the one he had watched on TV.

So he'd have to thread lightly with her. He was under no delusions that she was probably friends with him due to reasons he has yet to figure out.

There were others that he could pull into his circle, many would appear later on and he'd have to be ready by then to ceise his chances.

Having his own 'pack' in a sense under him seemed like a good idea.

" Scott? You look awful, what's wrong?"

A voice cut his thoughts as he didn't have to turn as he focused on the voice that was definitely Stiles, walking up to him was his brother Scott whose aura seemed more like flickering flames than the raging inferno that he was so used to.

He hid behind a locker making sure not to be seen as he decided to ease drop on them.

" Allison..." Was all Scott said.

" What about her? Did she forgive you?" Stiles asked almost hopeful for his friend.

" She was angry and called me a couple names but..." At that he trailed off.

" But? But what Scott!?" Stiles shouted, more so to pull his friend out of their apparent wallowing than anything.

" She said that she'd give me one last chance...." Scott added, again in that almost sorrowful manner.

Markus focused on the boys face, a frown on his own face as he listened in.

" That's great!" Stiles exclaimed, a beaming smile on his face before he focused on Scott's still present frown." That's great isn't it?"

" Yeah it is but there's something else..." Scott murmured.

" Do you remember the hunters I told you about?" Scott asked.

" Yeah, they chased you in the woods and stuck you through a tree before Derek save you—what about them?" Stiles said seeming more confused by the minute, an expression that Markus shared.

" Allison's father...he's one of the hunters that chased me." Scott answered, his head between his knees whilst he sat at a bench.

" Oh...."

" That's not even the worst of it..." Scott added with a lifeless chuckle.

" What's worse than having the father of the girl you 'love' being the one that almost killed you?" Stiles asked measuredly.

" I don't think it was Allison's father that shot me, Stiles." Scott said." I remember it clearly now...."

"....." Stiles kept quiet simply staring at his friend who seemed to have already stepped one foot to the grave already.

" Stiles....I think Allison is a hunter and she's the one that shot me." And with that a deafening silence ensured.

The silence was only broken by the bell that emanated from Markus' head.

[—Ding! Task - Playing With Fire Complete!]

Markus instead of feeling happy at the chime of his System, instead he felt his stomach drop.

Allison's subtle stares, calculative glances and every single interaction he had with her alongside her questions now painting a much more clear picture.

' Fuck...I was right.'
