Chapter 26 - Memories

The world changes to a wooden house within a small village on the outskirts of a desert. Inside a small one floor house, a child is currently laying down in his cradle sucking on his thumb.

"I know this is necessary but can we speed it up? I doubt we will get years to spend here." Asta complains at the plain uneventful memories he is getting, Jassen was born to a family of a village's head guard.

His mother was a black haired lady of average looks and his father was also black haired and had a beard that comes to his neck, he was a Somewhat decent knight responsible for keeping the village safe from small bandits.

It was village called skelo somewhere on the border of empire and the demon territories and was one of supply points for a soldiers and travellers so it's economy was also Somewhat Good.

"Oi, I know it is plain but it's my backstory nonetheless, atleast watch a little bit." "I am not telling you to skip it. Just sped it up, we can't have our 3 days spent watching ourselves in a cradle doing nothing but eat, sleep, sh** and repeat.", "Fair point" Jassen sighs as he surrendered to logic and decided to hasten the memory absorbtion speed a little.

"The hell. I told you to sped up a 'little' not fully send five months in 3 mins... My head hurts like hell." "My mistake, i thought we were completing my full life right now." Jassen apologies as Asta has to spent 1 hour coming back to normal after digesting the memories.

" How long did you live anyway? It's not like 9 cen-." Asta stops mid sentence as he senses Jassen's emotions get unstable with rage and longing.

"Twenty two, that's how many years I lived." Jassen says, his voice hinting at regret and sadness but he recovered from it soon remembering He was gonna live again anyway.

The duo then decided upon absorbing up to 10 years of Jassen's life and begin again after their break. Asta then saw it all, A war with the demons and their slaves, the village getting sieged by reavers and froglings, The death of Jassen's parents followed by his bare escape thanks to his grandfather who ran away with him despite injuries.

In his last moments Jassen's grandfather managed to get him to a dwarf traveller who was camping somewhere in the mountains, following his passing the dwarf decided to take care of Jassen and brought him alongside himself to the land of dwarfs, mechania highlands.

A network of city built underground and inside mountains and an unpenetrateable fortress ruled by seven tribes of dwarfs and their allies like the gnomes and beastmans, the highlands were under the protection of red and black dragons who known for their preference towards fine craftsmanship and wealth.

Jassen most of his early ten years learning craft from the dwarfs and finally managed to gather Enough money to take admission into a somewhat decent academy.

He learnt swordmanship and when he turned 8 he finally managed to have a teacher of th academy help with creation of his grimoire. The old dwarf with red hair and beard alongside his wife who was known as master runesmith together helped Jassen.

Unlike Asta who has no fixed magic attributes, Jassen's was leaning towards the fire and earth elements side thus making him unable to wield Anti-magic. The process of grimoire making he learnt was different as every grimoire started with one of main nine elements or an unusual element.

It took over 1 and half years for the grimoire to complete after high fine turning which led to creation of the four leafed grimoire the grimoire of machines, made by combining mix and merging over 7 elements including earth and fire to make metal, earth and metal to make weapon, fire with metal to create smithing and a extra element of rune magic that Jassen barely learnt with lot of efforts.

By merging smithing with rune he learnt runesmith magic and by mixing rune with earth he got golem magic and after merging the four more complex elements of runesmith, golem, metal and rune he finally created Machine magic.

A minor spirit was born to it and Jassen finally begin learning to fight like a mage as well as a fighter. It was at this time that a important event happened in his life.

"I am gonna slow it down a bit, we still got about 8 hours so we gonna spend the watching this." "How important is this for you to slow for this specific part?" "Very important." Jassen convinced Asta to focus on this part as even through absorbing gives him everything in mind, it's a whole new thing to understand it from his very eyes.

-switching to Jassen's pov(the one in memories.)-

"It's always me they send to this place, this stones don't even move like my golems." Jassen is currently ten year old and walking riding a small goat golem he created, it makes its way across the high cliffs and peaks of the highlands while slowly moving towards his destination where he is supposed to deliver a cargo for his teacher.

He takes in the scenery and occasionally a few wolfs of goats will try to fight him but he just ignored them. as he was traveling, Jassen so a figure in th distance that he don't see often in his part of the highlands, a beastman with bulky muscles about 7 feet tall and appears to be of around 40 in age.

He comes closer and stops in front of the golem and circles around him while staring as if analysing him. "So you are the seventh? Least to say you aren't the same as the original as well." He states while shaking his head in regret.

"Who are you old man? I remember seeing you before on this route, and what is this about being sev- ekkk." Jassen jumps away as he creates a bow with magic, the beastman has lunges at him and before he could do anything had him pinned down on the ground.

"I don't have much time to explain. Just take this." The beastman puts his claw on his forehead as a insane amount of information appears in his head and his mind blanked out from the burden.

Few hours later, he drowzly wakes up from his pathetic state, his mind is under constant pressure as the information rams its way into his mind, he lays down on the goat again and makes way to his destination with no sign of the beastman in sight.

Quick comment from asta-

"Who was that?" "The sixth's shadow, his name is kaelum. I blocked the memories about that because you gonna get it from himself later. We focus on my story for now." Jassen states to asta with annoyance at being interrupted during such a important part.

-back to pov-

"Those images, even if he was in a hurry he could have atleast given me some time. All this emotions are really heating up my brain. Good thing I am a fan of stories." He gulps down his entire bottle of water when suddenly Jassen heard voices from the distance, he created a small binoculars and saw a blue haired girl running in the distance from a horde of goblins, ogres and wolves.

He quickly puts down the cargo from golem and transformed it from a goat into a Wolf with three tails.

Running down through the mountain slope at full speed he quickly reached the girl and crashed the golem into the group of ogres, before they could realise anything he grabbed something akin to a flamethrower he had in his backpack and fried the frontal figures.

After the fuel burns away, he stuff a red stone into the flamethrower and threw it onto the figure while grabbing the girl by the.. Horns.

"You leave my horns alone!!! Let go of me." "Then come up here and climb YOURSELF." Jassen argues back while grabbing her arm and pulls her onto the golem, the golem picks up it's pace and soon left then area.

"Huff huff, you are most heavy girl I have ever seen, just how far are you? Owe" "it's make scales dumbass, they weight more than me." The girl hits Jassen on the head, creating a small bump on it as steam comes out of it, Jassen lay on the golem's back clutching onto his head.

"Who are you anyway? Those were a lot of enemies for chasing one person. Are you a lizard man or something?" Jassen asks out of pure curiosity as he slowly transform the golem into the goat again and begins making his up the slope towards the cargo.

"This young lady here is a dragon for your information, now get on your knees and-.. Stop staring at me like that." The girl roars as she notices Jassen looking at her with a blank unimpressed face while chewing on piece of jerky.

"No way a dragon child is gonna get chased around by goblins, try your luck somewhere else miss." He says as he swipes his hand in front of his face like swatting flies or something. The girl lunges at him in anger and her punch broke a part of the golem.

Jassen panics and kicks her from behind while yelling "Don't damage my golem, it took a lot of time to make it part by part.". He brings out a chain and with insane dexterity, chained her up and took a breath of relief as quickly check the damage in the golem.

"I am gonna take you to the elders and we gonna see which dragon is gonna take you.. if you're a dragon that is." "NO!! Not the elders.. those old folks are gonna send me back to the my father." The girl cries out at Jassen's statement which garners pity from Jassen, when suddenly the memories hurt back as he finally relaxed. He falls face first and unconscious on the golem back.

"I have this already, can't these come when I sleep instead?" Jassen wakes to find himself next to a bonfire, he was sleeping in a blanket while the golem was standing to the side and right beside the cargo. His eyes turns to see the Dragon girl eating his food.

"Finally awake? You almost feel down many times if not for me grabbing you." The girl says with a hint of pride while Jassen clutches his head again and grabs a water bottle from the golem's storage.

"Let's go, we can't have a dragon left like th-" "no, I am not going back to that prison life again, I will rather die than being stuck in a house again." Jassen had no answer to the girl's argument, he sits down opposite her and stares into his eyes.

"It's not safe here, the demons will try to kill you every moment." "Much better than a suffocating life" "what can you even do? Make a house and live in the mountains?" "I don't care.. I will get something done sooner or later." Jassen sighs and accepted that he can't win a argument against her and jumped onto the golem again, the girl also jumped and sat beside him.

"You are going to someplace right? I will leave when we get there.. what's your name?" "Jassen.. yours?" "Celesia" the duo then made their way across the mountains on the golem before reaching a small clearing between cliffs.

A small area covered in trees and a pond in middle of area, a single house stands beside the cliff walls where the water flows down into the pond from the snowy peaks above.

Jassen recalls the spirit from the golem which like a whisp of iron dust nudging against Jassen's skin, he pets it with a finger before sending it into the grimoire. The golem's turns off and Jassen knocks on the door.

"Pops.. it's Jassen, I got your cargo." He knocks on the door multiple times before a small dwarf that once adopted him opens the door and pulls him closer in a hug.

"You have grown again in the past month boy, almost higher than me... Did you get a friend or something?" He nudges Jassen as he looks at Celesia before his eyes go to her horns and he almost fainted out of shock.

"Aaaa ddddragggon? Why is a dragon with you?" " I saved her from a chase, she insisted on following me." Jassen replies while Celesia comes closer to the duo.

"A close place where no one comes... I have decided I will stay here." Celesia says as she sits down on the couch and plays with a brush she found on the table, Jassen swipes away the brush from her hand.

"No way, you are getting sent to your people." "What if I don't wanna? As weak as I am, i can blast this place bits if you force me." She threatens as the scales spread and she gathers mana in her arms. They both stare at each other before the old man had to stop them.

Jassen told him about the story and he eventually decided, " attacking the dragons is akin to a crime and she can take both of us down alongside her if you fight, we have to relent Jassen." "But pops, what if they come looking for her?" "We can just say she threatend us, you have no problem with that right young miss?" Celesia shakes her head at the dwarf's question and Jassen had to submit to her needs.

The next few days of Jassen's life were spent on making a wooden house for her, he eventually started trusting her a bit.

-end of pov-

"I guess the time is over for now, rest for the next 30 mins or whenever the brain wakes up again... Also it gonna hurt a lot when you wake up." " I know, now give me some rest time." Asta accepts Jassen's advice and lays down on the ground as they both come out of the cavern and onto the bridge in the mindscape.

'Sorry in advance but I had to do it. I hope you understand that day, Asta.' Jassen prays in his mind which goes completely unnoticed by Asta who has fallen sound asleep.
