Chapter 29 - Chapter 28

Luna Everleigh's POV

***

The night was too quiet.

The kind of quiet that settled in your bones like a warning.

I stood at the edge of the castle courtyard, the cool night air pressing against my skin. Rhydian had left moments ago, summoned to a meeting with the high-ranking warriors. But even without him here, I could feel the tension in the air—thick, heavy, charged with something I couldn't quite name.

And then, the silence shattered.

A howl—long and guttural—ripped through the night.

Not a call.

A warning.

My breath caught.

Then came the sounds of chaos—shouts, the clash of metal, the thunder of paws against earth.

The attack had begun.

I turned just as a warrior bolted past me, his eyes wild. "They've breached the border!"

I barely had time to react before the doors of the castle were thrown open, guards rushing out, weapons drawn. From the treeline beyond the courtyard, dark figures surged forward—feral, snarling, eyes glowing with unchecked violence.

Rogues.

Wild wolves who had long abandoned pack laws, living only for destruction.

One of them lunged at a guard, jaws snapping, tearing through flesh with ease. Blood sprayed across the cobblestones.

My stomach turned, but I couldn't look away.

I should have run.

I should have hidden.

But my body refused to move.

And then—

A pair of burning eyes locked onto me from the battlefield.

A rogue, larger than the others, his fur a tangled mess of scars and filth, his mouth curled in a snarl.

He charged.
