Chapter 10 - The First Exam

Third-person POV*

A figure strode into the room, unnoticed by anyone until he spoke "This is the 50th Kriel Academy examination," warranting the shock of all the students except for a few. "I am one of the exam's managers, Fiel Dunmann, also known as the Silent Grasp. This exam will be a normal test, since all of you are 12 year-olds, your mana core must have aligned with your hearts. So, you will put your hand on the crystal ball on this podium and confirm your mana affinities. The ball will shine and Create a color based on your affinity. Please bear in mind that you are being watched by the greatest warriors from all the 18 continents. This may be main continent, but in the end we all still need to connect and join hands to face the dangers of this world. Beasts run around and feast on humans unchecked in this planet, and it is our duty to clear them out, no matter how strong they may be. Understood!?" The students responded with a loud "Yes, Sir."

The affinities were normal in the beginning, a wind affinity there, a flame affinity there, a water affinity there, etcetera, however in the later stages, things started getting crazy, there were metal affinities, light affinities, and even a weapon affinity, something that would be seen as normal, but would be a threat in the hands of the right person.

Fiel ignored the crowd's reaction, his mind focused on the results. The number of rare affinities this year was… abnormally high. Uncommon ones like magnetism, beast, and even mind-affinity were appearing with increasing frequency.

"Next," he said, controlling the atmosphere with a single word.

The process continued.

Another student with foresight. Then another. By the time the third one was revealed, Fiel's composed expression faltered slightly. Three foresight users in one year? That was unheard of. Then Piera stepped up. , he thought as he walked up the podium as he stuffed his hands in his pockets. As he stepped up to the podium, he felt different gazes from different sources, some recognized the Valemir name and pondered why they would ever adopt a human, but Piera didn't care, he put his hand on the crystal, not expecting much, but far from his expectations, something happened.

He didn't expect much. He really didn't, but at the time he was about to put his hand on the ball, Croti said "Don't hide your temporal residue". Piera quickly undid the seal on his temporal residue - the power that signified his connection to the Fallen Entity. He only undid the seal about 20%, and left the remaining 80% hidden, but the crystal had other plans.

*Fwooosh*

The light in the orb didn't glow; it erupted.

First, it turned deep green, sharp, and alive. Then it twisted into a violent purple, expanding and pulsing, almost like it was alive.

The crowd gasped. Someone whispered, "Two affinities…?!" But it wasn't done.

A third shimmer appeared-silver, not bright, not loud, but eerie. Faint. It pulsed once, and for a split second, the world seemed to slow.

Fiel Dunmann stood frozen, eyebrows raised, and for the first time in the whole exam, the Silent Grasp actually spoke with interest. "Cosmic… Plant… and something unregistered. Possibly…" He hesitated. Then muttered: "…Temporal residue?"

The orb dimmed, but the tension remained. Piera removed his hand, staring at the crystal like it had betrayed him. He walked down, and once he came down, Auren wrapped his hand around his shoulder, saying "What a showoff. Even I who got Magnetism and sound did not attract this much attention" "Well, I never wanted to, I wanted to live a normal life in this place, but it seems as if we're not gonna be getting that in here" he replied, glancing at Thera before looking away

*Thera's POV*

"Don't estimate him just by his looks, you'll hurt yourself" The Fallen Entity of Unseen speed continued. "That boy chose not to hide it. Don't be fooled by your arrogance."

*Observation Chamber Aegiron*

"What are you doing, Inkaris, you're supposed to be managing this test, and you send someone who isn't even a Sword Demon?? Huh, answer me you dimwit." A loud voice boomed in the room where all the exam organizers were. "Well, all I have to say is that the boy isn't even a Sword Demon or a squad Captain but he has a title. What is that to show you??" Inkaris replied evenly, silencing every criticizing voice in the room. "Kid, you may be a squad captain, but that does not mean that you should neglect your duties as one. Do you understand, Inkaris" another voice asked. "Yeah… Whatever." he thought while licking his lips. "Well, whatever, that's all your business" A third voice resounded in the room. "I'm going for the next exam." You can manage your politics by yourselves.
