Chapter 10 - A linker's odsyess ch10 The morningstar incident pt12.

Within minutes the zombies were easily dispatched of by us...well mostly by the demiurge since I just killed three of four while they wiped out dozens.

Seeing them tear through wave upon wave with just their physical stats was frightening, I just couldn't help but imagine how much more efficient they would have been had they used their abilities. If it took less than a second for them to wipe out two, then it would take an instant to wipe out a horde with their abilities.

It was frightening but a reminder for me that I will never close the gap between us..it was too impossible...a mere dream to say the least.

Anyway eventually the horde died out leaving us surrounded by countless of zombies bodies of our making. With that and the flesh wall that surrounded us, there was so little we could do to remain calm because we were trapped.

"Communication is being jammed!"

Placing my phone back in my pocket I remark, my teammates giving me a tense look ...well only two of them, since AI had her mind wandering of somewhere, lost in her own thoughts as usual.

"Is it because of the territory!" Seth nocking another arrow into his bow observe the flesh wall.

"Could be." I responded my gaze falling onto the academy building a few distance away.

"Right now we have two options....we kill that or we wait for help."

My words weren't much encouraging because even I knew how impossible the latter was. A cryptic will always attack any intruders in their territory either by itself or it's minions and now that we had killed it's minions it will come at us soon, meaning we didn't have much time to wait around.

"Commander!"

As I was trying to figure out what to do, Isis approach, her piercing gaze almost too distracting.

"I'm listening."

"Didn't you establish a link with one of the Valkyries."

"You mean Frey!"

"Yes. Have you by chance check to see if the territory blocks all forms of communication or only technological communication."

"....."

For a moment I remain silent with all gazes on me. I knew I wasn't smart but this was a whole new low. For a second I even consider resigning on this spot and transfer every ability I had to Isis but alas such situations was too surreal to be possible.

"I'll try."

Looking away with a dejected expression, I closed my eyes to establish a link.

What was a Linker?

I always ask myself such a question.

It was simple question to answer thou.

It asked a similar question to if humans could become a cpytic but in this case the question was if Humans could control them as well.

I wasn't particularly knowledgeable about how it worked but I do know they existed one...many of them but now I was the only one left leaving me with a tremendous amount of burdens.

Why was a Linker so important?

If Demiurge protected humanity, Linkers made sure they saw that goal through even if it was against there will. We Linkers established what is know as a link with the Demiurge and one's it is done, a leash is placed on them to:

1. Never kill their Linker.

2.Always prioritize their safety.

3. Their order are absolute.

Those were the absolute laws and anything else had to be declared by the Linker. In a way it treated the Cyptics as Slaves and the Linker as the master.

It was a devious ability and it had been given to me. It was unpleasant and even frightening knowing the abilities I wielded and how one small mistake could lead me to doing something atrocious hence why I didn't like using it and why I prefer onfield missions, so I wouldn't result to using it but now here I was force to do what I happened the most.

With my eyes close I found myself in a void expansion filled with nothing but golden thread. Some streched far and other things and even with my eyes close I could easily identify what and whom the various threads belong to because each belongs to the various Demiurges I was connected to.

"Frey." I whispered softly.

[.....]

Just as I expected their was no response but that didn't have to do with the malfunction but because the person on the other side didn't want to.

"I need you hel....."

Before I could fully mouth out my call for aid, a new thread this one crimson and alien shot out from the vast expansion of nothing aiming to pierce me.

"Fuck!"

Cutting of the link fast enough, I found myself stagger back and tripping to the ground. No one caught me but I didn't complain because why the heck would I do with those dozens....upon dozen of human hanging up the flesh ceiling like puppet.

The scene was traumatizing as children, man and woman with tendrils impaling them from behind, their limbs hanging down and their body eerily floating midair like broken dolls hovered above us like puppet with string.

Resisting the urge to vomit,I took out my two gun to shoot them down with the mindsets they were zombies but just then, a corpses hanging right above my head was dropped, descending on me like a bombardment.

I quickly rolled to the side and soon after it crashed right beside me, explosion into a gruesome spread of gore that stained my jacket.

As I turned to my teammates I found them in a similar predicament with corpses dropping on them like rain.

Seth having been prepared took aim at the corpse falling on him and fired his arrow sending it charging through the air and impaling the head before explosion in a brilliant flash of light.

As the wind within the territory stirred from the explosion a rain of guts, flesh and blood soaked us while the zombies hanging on the ceiling began to shake frantically.

Seth taking out two more arrows from his quiver, placed them both on his blow string, then with a light crouch while aiming up, unleashed another batch of explosive arrows.

They whistle through the air like two rocket piercing two seperate bodies but right before they could explode the tendrils keep them in place retracted from their bodies causing the zombies to fall down with the explosive arrows in their body.
