Chapter 110 - Can anyone truly endure a lifetime of solitude?

When Gu Kai arrived, Wen Ran had just helped Wen Jin onto the bed.

He brought scar ointment and the necessary supplies to change her dressing. Without waiting for Wen Ran to come to him, he came straight over.

Bai Xiaoxiao entered with him, saying her father needed her back at the company. After a brief farewell, she left.

"Ranran, I hope I'm not intruding on your conversation with your brother?"

Gu Kai, clad in a white coat, exuded an air of serene elegance and noble refinement. When he smiled, he was as gentle as jade, a presence that had undoubtedly charmed countless nurses and patients in the hospital.

Wen Ran shook her head with a smile, assuring him he was not.

After inquiring about Wen Jin's condition, Gu Kai began tending to Wen Ran's wounds. When he finished dressing them, he gently reminded her:

"Keep the wound dry for the next couple of days. I'll change the dressing again soon. With this ointment, there won't be a trace of scarring—neither on your face nor your arm."

Wen Ran tucked away the ointment with a grateful smile. "Thank you, Brother Gu."

Gu Kai laughed warmly. "No need to thank me. Since you've accepted me as your Brother Gu, I may not be your real brother, but helping you with something so small is the least I can do."

"Thank you, Doctor Gu, for being so kind to Ranran."

From the hospital bed, Wen Jin averted his gaze from his sister and turned toward Gu Kai.

Gu Kai shrugged, his expression shifting to a wistful solemnity. "Years ago, Xiuchen was kidnapped. In a desperate moment, a little girl saved him. When he came back, he told me about it, and from that moment, I believed that little girl was the sister I had lost."

Startled, Wen Ran asked, "Brother Gu, are you saying... Cheng Jia is your long-lost sister?"

Gu Kai gave a bitter smile. If only Cheng Jia truly were his sister, it would have brought him peace. When she appeared, he had quietly collected a strand of her hair for a DNA test. The results, however, were not what he had hoped.

"Not only is she not my sister, even Xiuchen doesn't believe she was the one who saved him back then."

Wen Jin's expression shifted ever so slightly. He recalled what Mo Xiuchen had once told him—that he believed Ranran was the girl who saved him. Yet Mo Zixuan had said otherwise...

Now, Gu Kai had confirmed that he, too, once believed the girl who saved Xiuchen was his lost sister.

"Brother Gu, does your sister also have a mole on her chin like Cheng Jia?"

Seeing the sorrow between Gu Kai's brows, Wen Ran instinctively furrowed hers. An inexplicable unease crept into her heart.

Gu Kai nodded. These were matters he would never normally share with outsiders. But in front of Wen Ran, he felt a familiar warmth, and the words slipped out of him before he realized it.

Wen Jin raised a hand to his lips and coughed. Wen Ran immediately looked away from Gu Kai and lifted a cup of water from the table, gently offering it. "Brother, have some water."

"Thank you."

Warm affection shimmered in Wen Jin's eyes as he took a sip from the cup she held to his lips.

Just then, footsteps echoed outside the ward. The door swung open, and Mo Xiuchen's tall, commanding figure appeared. He stepped into the room, eyes passing over Gu Kai and Wen Jin without pause, landing directly on Wen Ran.

Their gazes met. A fleeting emotion passed through his eyes before a gentle smile bloomed across his face. He stepped inside, eyes falling to her arm. "You had your wound treated?"

"Yes, Brother Gu did it for me."

Wen Ran rose to her feet as she spoke. Mo Xiuchen turned his attention to Gu Kai, who responded with a calm smile. "I used our best medicine. It'll speed up Ranran's healing. Just make sure she keeps the wound dry these next couple of days."

Mo Xiuchen nodded and walked toward her. Feeling Wen Jin's cold gaze from the bed, he turned to meet it head-on, his expression unflinching.

"Ranran, I'd like some bananas. Can you go downstairs and buy a few for me?"

Wen Jin, still locking eyes with Mo Xiuchen, finally looked away and turned to Wen Ran.

"I was about to go down anyway. Ranran, I'll come with you," Gu Kai offered, rising to his feet. He knew Wen Jin wanted to speak to Mo Xiuchen privately.

Wen Ran wasn't naïve. She instantly realized her brother's intention and hesitated, fearing a confrontation.

"Go ahead. Let Ah Kai accompany you,"

Mo Xiuchen smiled reassuringly at her, silently promising he wouldn't do anything to her brother.

"All right then. I'll be back shortly."

With those words, Wen Ran left the ward with Gu Kai.

Mo Xiuchen shut the door, returned to the bed, and pulled a chair over. Crossing his legs casually, he looked at Wen Jin with calm composure. "I know Mo Zixuan visited you before heading to F City. If you have questions, ask them directly."

Although he hadn't come to the hospital during Wen Ran's business trip, it didn't mean he was unaware of Mo Zixuan's visit.

Wen Jin narrowed his eyes, his chiseled features tensing with a cold edge. He spoke without preamble—there was no use in circling around. "Mo Zixuan said a few things. I didn't believe all of it, but I didn't dismiss it either. He claimed that what happened between him and Zhou Lin was orchestrated by you."

As he spoke, he scrutinized Mo Xiuchen's face for even the slightest flicker of emotion.

Mo Xiuchen chuckled coldly, lips curving into a mocking smile. He did not answer the accusation directly, but posed a question of his own. "Did he also tell you that I framed him and Zhou Lin because I hated Xiao Wenqing for causing my mother's death, for stealing my father—and that I took the woman he loved in revenge?"

"Is that not the truth?"

Wen Jin's gaze darkened, his brows tightly furrowed.

"You think I used Ranran's entire life as a bargaining chip to save your pharmaceutical company. But did it never occur to you—that I was staking my life as well?"

Mo Xiuchen's words, though calm, were laced with a biting irony.

"In G City, who doesn't know the young master of the Mo family is... physically flawed, not a real man? Even if women admire your status, who could endure a lifetime of loneliness?"

Wen Jin's words, blunt and sharp, were met with nothing but a cold laugh. "Do you still believe I'm ill?"

"It's because the world has fallen for your lies that I cannot feel at ease letting Ranran be with you."

Wen Jin's sudden outburst wasn't just anger—it was confirmation. He had long suspected that Mo Xiuchen's supposed illness was a ruse, rumors he had deliberately let spread. Last night's events had confirmed it: they were now husband and wife in every sense, and now, he had admitted it himself.

"Wen Jin, everyone harbors secrets. The only difference is—I haven't exposed yours. No matter what Mo Zixuan told you, remember this: I will never harm Wen Ran."

Mo Xiuchen dismissed his accusations with quiet conviction. He didn't explain, didn't defend. He simply stated the truth as he saw it.

Wen Ran was now his wife. Whether Wen Jin accepted him or not, whether he worried or disapproved, the facts would not change.

They hadn't before.

And they wouldn't now.

Mo Xiuchen never wavered once he made up his mind.
