Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: First Kill, Trigger Conditions

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

Six sharp, chilling arrows flashed with cold light and flew from the direction of the small exit of the marketplace, piercing deeply into flesh.

"Ahh!! Ahh!!"

Two civilians, whose necks were forcibly restrained by the guards to serve as human shields, let out abrupt, anguished screams before falling silent forever.

This sinister strategy of using human shields was Jacaerys' idea.

After all, at the mere age of six, he was practically powerless.

If these two guards were to die, he would be left defenseless, a lamb awaiting slaughter by the assassins.

As a staunch pragmatist, Jacaerys would do whatever it took to preserve his own life.

After all, he had no idea if dying in the world of Game of Thrones meant true death.

Life was precious, and he hadn't even had the chance to truly enjoy it yet!

Compared with the calm and commanding Jacaerys, the other three children truly behaved like the children they were.

They were so scared that they trembled all over, their small faces turned pale as sheets.

This large-scale uprising and assassination attempt were worlds apart from their earlier petty squabbles with Aemond.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

"Kill them!"

From the main entrance of the marketplace came the clash of metal and the ferocious shouts of battle.

It was unclear whether it was the local militia from Dragonclaw Village or the two guards Jacaerys had dispatched earlier who were now locked in combat with the assassins.

However, with the assassins no longer blocking the exits, some of the civilians began to flee the marketplace in a desperate bid for survival.

The reduced number of civilians in the marketplace presented both advantages and disadvantages for Jaacerys.

The advantage was that they quickly reached a stall pressed against the wall, a position that only required them to defend against attacks from the front.

The disadvantage, however, was that as the crowd thinned, the six assassins at the small exit discarded their bows and arrows, drew their longswords, and swiftly advanced toward Jacaerys and his siblings.

Clang! Clang!

With the threat of arrows eliminated, the two guards threw away the civilian meat shields that had been riddled like pincushions and drew the longswords at their waists, readying themselves for battle.

Jacaerys also unsheathed the short blade he always carried, the very same one that was used to blind Aemond in the High Tides.

Clang!

Rip!

The moment the two sides clashed, one assassin who rushed to the forefront was immediately struck down by a guard from Jacaerys' side.

This wasn't due to superior swordsmanship on the guard's part but because of the finely crafted Targaryen family armor they wore.

In the age of cold weapons, there was a world of difference between being armored and unarmored.

Squish!

One of the guards drove his sword into the fallen assassin's neck to finish him off. A torrent of blood gushed out, instantly staining the ground beneath the wall-side stall crimson.

The remaining five assassins, witnessing this scene, immediately became more cautious.

Utilizing their numerical advantage, they split into two groups to surround the guards.

Thanks to their advantageous position and the formidable protection of their high-quality armor, the guards managed to hold their ground, and the two sides became locked in a tense stalemate.

But Dragonclaw Village was Jacaerys' territory. The longer the fight dragged on, the greater the advantage for his side.

The assassins weren't fools—they understood this as well.

Among the three assassins attacking the guard on the left, one of the shorter assassins suddenly withdrew from the fight.

He discarded his longsword and drew a dagger, clenching it between his teeth as he crouched low and leapt forward.

With remarkable agility, he slid through the legs of the guard and quickly turned around, catching the dagger from his mouth with his hand, ready to strike.

This is bad!

Seeing this, Jacaerys immediately threw himself forward with all his might, driving the short blade in his hand into the left eye of the assassin, who had fallen on his back on the ground.

"Ahhh!"

The assassin, who had completely ignored the four children, let out a piercing scream and died instantly.

However the dagger in his hand pierced into the gap in the armor of the guard's right leg (knee) one step earlier than Jacaerys.

Squelch!

The injured guard let out a cry of pain and collapsed to his knees.

The remaining two assassins seized the opportunity, thrusting their longswords precisely into the gap at the guard's neck.

With one guard down, the last remaining guard was caught in a desperate struggle against the two assassins, unable to free himself.

Jacerys and the three other children were now in mortal danger.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Hisssss!!!

At that critical moment, the sound of flapping wings and the shrill cry of a young dragon echoed above the open-air marketplace.

"Dracarys!"

Jacaerys, his face alight with joy, pointed at the two assassins on the left and, with the purest and most childish voice, uttered the deadliest word in the High Valyrian language.

*ROAR!!!*

A fatal burst of dragon flame erupted from the mouth of the green-scaled young dragon hovering in midair.

Like an orange ribbon of death, the flames instantly engulfed the two assassins on the left, turning them into human torches.

Though Vermax's fiery breath was not yet hot enough to melt gold or iron, it was still excruciatingly lethal.

The two assassins did not die instantly but screamed in agony, writhing like headless flies as they ran blindly in all directions.

Their frantic movements ignited some of the market stalls before they finally collapsed to the ground in silence, leaving only the crackling sound of flames.

*BOOOOM!!!*

Weighing more than seven hundred kilograms, Vermax descended from the sky, crushing one of the assassins on the right. The unfortunate man's bones shattered, and he let out a pitiful wail.

Finally, The last remaining assassin, realizing the situation was hopeless, so he turned around and fled.

The guard on the right raised his sword, intent on pursuing, but Jacaerys stopped him.

With another command in Valyrian, the fleeing assassin was engulfed in dragonfire from behind.

However, this time, there was a mishap.

A hapless civilian standing too close to the assassin was also caught in the deadly blaze.

There was no helping it!

Aside from his master, Vermax didn't care whether he burned one or several humans.

At this moment, Jacaerys didn't have time to mourn for the unfortunate civilian; his eyes were fixed on the notification that had just flashed in front of him.

[+20 Trait Points]

After the deaths of the two assassins on the left, a second method of acquiring trait points, other than through eating, had appeared.

Moreover, the points gained through this second method far exceeded those obtained from eating.

However, Jacaerys couldn't yet determine the specific trigger conditions for this second method.

This was why he stopped the guard from pursuing, wanting to test the mechanism through action.

[+10 Trait Points]

The burning assassins and the civilian quickly fell silent, and the notification appeared once more.

Although both had been killed by dragonfire, the trait points awarded were half as many.

The only difference between them and the others was one thing...

The civilian was not his enemy!

Concerned with acquiring attribute points, Jacaerys was highly focused in this moment.

After making the deduction in his mind, he used his mental connection to order Vermax to kill the assassin, still writhing and screaming beneath the dragon's body.

Bang!

The assassin's head exploded like a watermelon under Vermax's claw, the white and red splattering in all directions.

Another trait point notification followed.

[+10 Trait Points]

By combining this with the first assassin Jacaerys had killed himself, he had finally confirmed the trigger condition for the second method.

It was when Vermax killed the enemy!

Ugh, ugh!

A series of vomiting sounds reached Jacaerys' ears.

He turned to see little Luke and the silver-haired twin sisters vomiting violently, their faces pale.

The ground of the marketplace was littered not only with the assassin's mangled body, blood and brain matter mixed together, but also with many civilians who had been trampled and disfigured beyond recognition.

The smell of blood, burnt flesh, and the scent of bodily fluids (Piss) from those civilians who had soiled themselves in their final moments filled the air.

The three children, unable to withstand such a horrific sight, naturally vomited.

As for Jacaerys, who had never encountered such a scene in his past life nor killed anyone with his own hands, had no other physiological reactions except feeling a little smelly.

Despite having fused memories, he felt a sense of detachment, as if he were above it all.

It was as though the people in this world were no different from NPCs in a movie or video game—unreal!

Surely, no one would feel nauseous after killing an NPC in a game or watching a movie, would they?

This was also why he showed no deep guilt when Vermax accidentally killed the civilian. He felt a slight regret but no real remorse.

Jacaerys couldn't help but wonder whether this mindset was a good or bad thing in a world of Game of Thrones where human life was as cheap grass.

Back to the matter at hand!

After instructing the guard to look after little Luke and the others, Jacaerys, with Vermax in tow, charged toward the large exit of the marketplace.

At this moment, the assassins were no longer seen by him as living humans, but as moving bundles of trait points.

The young dragon was also the ultimate combat force in this world!

The assassins, who had been evenly matched with the Dragonclaw Village militia, were no match for Vermax.

After a fierce burst of dragonfire, Jacaerys once again collected 120 trait points.

This meant that he could refresh Vermax's attribute again!
