Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight: All Sins

Pov, William.

I got lost in my own conflicting thoughts. I suddenly feel weak in my legs, so I sit on the couch with my eyes closed, pressing my index finger on my temple, trying to relieve the migraine that had suddenly hit me.

I open my eyes again to look for him, and he's just standing in front of me, silently staring at his fingers that he keeps playing with. After a brief silence, I say, crossing my arms over my chest.

I act like I'm strong, but I'm actually almost fainting from fear when I realize I'm talking to two people at once.

"So you mean that Cynthia is inside you right now?"

I swallow hard as he nods his head, confirming my suspicion.

I just sit there and stare at him until I quickly get off the couch and back away from him until my back hits the little table behind me.

"Does she hear everything we say?"

"I think so." He answers me quietly, and I wish he hadn't.

I start to feel dizzy, and he starts talking again, trying to get closer to me. My eyes widen as he takes a step toward me. "She can't hurt me unless you're not there. You're the one who protects me from her, Mr. William."

"What?" I furrow my eyebrows and stare at him, then he smiles at me in a creepy way.

What's he saying now?

I'm a bodyguard for that dumb goblin, and I'm just an ordinary human?

We're just looking at each other, and then I remember something that might explain what Evander was just saying.

I grab him by the shoulders and shake him hysterically. "That day in the school hallway when I saw you attacking that student."

"That person wasn't you, it was Cynthia. She was the one controlling your behavior, right?"

He stares at me silently for a second, then lowers his gaze and says. "That's right, and if you hadn't come to stop her, that boy would've been killed. You're the only one who can stop her, Mr. William."

I get away from him and head back to the couch. All the weird stuff that's been happening to me lately is gonna make me sick.

"Why does it have to be me?" I sigh deeply, bow my head, and run my fingers through my hair. Then Evander sits next to me.

He says, "My mom was trying to break Cynthia's curse, so she collected all the sins committed by that vampire to materialize as five rings lost in the human world. Each ring chose a human who had committed the same sins as Cynthia, with the help of some magicians."

"Wait, a vampire?" My face is turning pale, and I almost cry, "How many kinds of creatures are in your world, Evander? I feel like I'm dreaming!"

I slap my forehead, and then I hear him sigh. He says , "I have to find all the rings and get rid of them until the curse is lifted. Then, my own kind would be free of her evil and control, and my mother would get back the throne."

"That's why she went crazy when she saw that ring in the boy's hand. She'd never let you get rid of it because that would mean the end of her." I say, then he nods slowly. We stay quiet for a second, and then my eyes land on the blue ring in my hand. I start thinking about it.

"I have a ring too. Does that mean I've sinned?"

"I'm not sure."

His answer is the last straw.

I blink twice as he startles me and drops to his knees in front of me.

He smiles broadly as he gently holds both my hands. "Don't be afraid, Mr. William. Do you know the last thing my mother told me before she sent me here?"

"What did she say?"

I'm staring at him, mouth open, as he moves closer and whispers something in my ear that makes me forget what I was thinking.

"She told me to take care of you and mend your broken heart."

He pulls away, and I'm lost in the depth of his eyes, and I don't realize what I am doing, my hand is on his cheek, gently tracing over his soft skin. Then I say quietly. "You have the same features as your mother."

...

It's been almost an hour since I went out of the house, I left Evander alone, I refused to let him come with me after his unsuccessful pleas.

Right now. I'm not in the mood to see him.

Maybe my sin is that I fell in love with a goblin.

Am I really his father?

Or maybe she cheated on me and finally decided to leave after finding out she was pregnant.

If I'm really his father, did Evander know about it and hide the truth from me?

I'm so confused.

I don't know if I'm angry at myself for being so naive or at what I went through because of her leaving me.

I feel like..

I didn't mean anything to her.

I sigh and relax on the park bench, waiting for my friend to come and join me. He always understands what's going on in my heart without saying anything.

And there he is, looking for me. I wave to him from afar, and he runs to me and stands in front of me, shoving his hands in his pants pockets, trying to read my facial expressions, and then he sits next to me. "What's up?"

I turn to face him. "Rose is back," I say.

He stares at me, and I can see the shock on his face. "You're kidding me, William. When did this happen?"

I shake my head no, looking away from him, a ghost of a smile on my face. "She was pregnant before we broke up and hid it from me."

He jumps up from the bench, and I can see he's mad. He clenches his fist and punches the air, screaming.

"That bitch!"

"Leo, calm down!" I say in a calm tone, but he's even more surprised and angry. He grabs my shoulders and shakes me hysterically.

"How can you ask me to calm down when she's the cause of your sorrow?"

He pulls away from me and exhales heavily, running his fingers through his brown hair.

"Where's that girl? I'm gonna go and teach her a lesson she won't forget!"

I sigh, annoyed by his barbaric behavior, and stand up, grabbing his arm to make him turn to face me.

I wouldn't blame him, though. His reaction was pretty predictable.

I close my eyes, thinking about what to say, and then open them and say it. "I'll tell you something that might make you think I'm crazy."

There he is, staring at me like I'm crazy before I even say a word.

Suddenly, the ring starts flashing, and my eyebrows furrow.

Leo's got a look on his face like "what the heck is that?" and I don't feel like explaining it to him.

"Evander," I whisper, and I start running home.

I'm pretty worried that he's in some kind of trouble.

Or maybe that villain hurt him by taking advantage of his time away from me.

How stupid I am.

When I get home, I open the door all the way and look for him. I'm out of breath from running so fast.

There's no sign of him.

"Evander! Where are you?"

I'm running around the house calling for him, but no one's answering.

"What's going on William? Who are you looking for?"

Leo comes in, trying to catch his breath, and we both flinch when that little fairy appears out of nowhere and approaches me.

"Come on! You have to help Evander! He's in danger!" She yells at me, grabs my collar, and tries to pull me out.
