He turned his attention back to the two girls who were still huddled behind the remains of a wall staring up at him in a combination of fear, surprise and awe.
"They're gone. Are you two okay?" Harry asked as he took slow deep breaths.
Gabrielle nodded her head but didn't say anything, staying curled close to her sister. Fleur's blue eyes were staring at him as she slowly nodded. "Oui…. Are you?" The cautious concern in her voice was evident.
Harry nodded almost absently after checking them both closely, he began looking around at the destruction the fight had caused. "I'm fine."
"Are you sure?" Fleur insisted, this time there was genuine concern in her voice. She was looking over him seeing his leg covered in blood, his left arm limp at his side. She couldn't make out his face from under the hood, but was sure he was barely standing. Gabrielle was still curled in close to her and Fleur had her arms around her sister protectively. But her focus was on this stranger.
She and Gabrielle had been following their parents, when they'd gotten separated in the crowd when Gabrielle had tripped. Fleur had helped her up and then looked up to find their parents gone. They had continued to try and flee but had somehow caught the eye of a Death Eater.
The next thing Fleur knew she was putting herself between her younger sister, and the cruciatus curse from a Death Eater. Fleur had never felt such agony in her life. Her body was still twitching in remembrance. Fleur was certain that they were both going to die and was just trying to protect Gabi as long as possible.
Then someone had attacked the Death Eaters. Fleur had never been so relieved in her life. She had expected a large group of aurors. Maybe even lead by her father. What she had not expected was one figure leading his own assault on the Death Eaters.
At first she had been afraid of him and just thought of protecting her sister. But he had faced the Death Eater's and actually fought them off. Quite literally by himself. She had come face to face with him. Though his grey hood concealed most of his face, she caught a small glimpse of his jawline and could tell that he was relatively young. But was most arresting was the emerald green that his eyes glowed with. It made quite the eerie effect in the darkness of the hood. If they hadn't been in such a frightening situation she would have been able to stare into the eyes for hours.
As a veela she was able to sense the magic of people. Mostly it was one way for them to determine the potential of mates. And she had never sensed such power before. It was almost intoxicating. He had been non-stop casting powerful spells ones that should have long since exhausted almost any wizard she had ever met.
But in the aftermath of the fight, she could also see the leg of his cloak soaked in blood that was definitely his.
Harry was about to reassure her but was cut off when he found himself suddenly crumpling down to his knees woozily.
Harry looked down and was surprised to see the right leg of his robe completely drenched in blood. His hand went to his leg and he could feel the blood pump through his fingers. Harry mentally swore. He wasn't great at healing charms, but had plenty of experience using them on himself.
He was bringing his wand to bear on the wound when his thoughts were interrupted by a loud, shout.
"Drop your wand and don't move!" cried someone.
Harry looked up to see more than a dozen dark cloaked aurors moving toward him with their wands drawn. He opened his mouth to tell them he was a friend but a spasm of pain from his left shoulder caused his response to come out in a grunt.
"I said drop the wand, or we'll stun you where you are." The voice said, his tone brooking no argument. However one of the aurors wasn't as patient as the others and he shouted a "Stupefy!" with a quick whip of his wand toward Harry.
Harry grunted and fell flat, so the stupefy spell sailed over him. He let out a cry of pain this time as he jolted his shoulder and his leg.
Harry found himself wanting to be away from here. He needed to be somewhere… anywhere safe, and his magic raced to fill that need.
The last thing he heard before he disappeared in a burst of flame was a female voice shouting "No wait he didn't-" The rest of the voice was lost as he flamed away.
