Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: System Items Don’t Work on Pokémon, Only on Trainers

Not long after strolling on the streets of Mushui Town, a hazy drizzle like gauze began to fall from the sky.

It is the rainy Hoenn after all.

Even though he is a fire fox, he doesn't really hate this kind of drizzle.

The fur all over its body became wet as soon as it was touched by rain, but it was able to use its amazing energy control to evenly distribute the fire energy on its body surface and evaporate the water easily.

So in the rain, the fire fox, which was emitting fire all over its body, was like a piece of red-hot charcoal, constantly emitting white mist.

Is this fox really a genius?

"That's amazing, keep it up."

"Fu!"

Feeling that this could evolve into moves like "Wisp", "Protection", "Mysterious Guardian", and "Magic Reflection", Link took note in his mind and thought that this way of controlling energy was a good idea.

The man and the fox continued to stroll, and finally found the Elf Center in Duskwater Town before noon.

The huge iconic red roof and Poké Ball in the distance made Link see it at a glance, and he brought his fire fox to the center of the building, which was as large as a shopping mall.

Compared to its huge size, the interior of the Elf Center in Duskwater Town seems relatively quiet.

The population of such a small island or town is not high. Many young and strong people have already joined the ships to work or set foot on land to seek opportunities. The proportion of fishermen is actually higher than that of trainers.

Thanks to the Pillar of the Sky that has stood on Waterway 131 since ancient times, Mushui Town has never experienced storms, tsunamis, strong winds and waves for thousands of years. Today's light rain is the limit.

For some reason, the powerful elves were unwilling to approach Waterway 131 and Duskwater Town, resulting in a low demand for force in the latter.

Most of the trainers on the island were those who, after seeing Mikoli's stunning performance on TV, became excited and took their own water-attribute Pokémon to the Pokémon Center to complete the registration.

Thanks to this, Duskwater Town applied to the League for a venue for the Grand Prix in recent years, so the proportion of coordination trainers is higher than that of traditional trainers.

There is a good thing about the small number of trainers. At least Link doesn't have to worry about making reservations for accommodation in advance.

If this were his hometown, a Pokémon Center in such a tiny place would definitely be crowded.

As a newcomer, he found Miss Joy, told her that he was a newcomer who knew nothing about trainers, and asked about the functions of the Pokémon Center.

"So you're a newcomer to Duskwater Town? That's rare."

After completing the accommodation registration with the boy's trainer card, Joey explained conscientiously: "Trainers can stay at the Pokémon Center for free, receive treatment and physical examinations, purchase daily items and supplies at cost price, borrow guidance books published by the Alliance, rent venues and training equipment, and register for jobs."

"How scheming!" Link was astonished. What kind of utopian welfare system is this? "Then what responsibilities do trainers have to fulfill?"

So what is the cost?

Joey tilted his head. Price?

The price, of course, is to abide by the law, study hard, and make progress every day.

The Pokémon Center is a welfare organization that aims to assist trainers, who are at the forefront of mutual benefit between human society and Pokémons. The services it provides are basically paid for by the Alliance.

Moreover... the elf battle competition has promoted the economic development of the entire alliance and brought unimaginable jobs and profits.

In a sense, the treatment enjoyed by trainers is roughly equivalent to "salary".

Link applied for the Department of Mathematics at University and didn't know much about economics, so he couldn't see the deep intricacies. He just felt that the alliance was promoting the rule of law by doing this.

"Thank you, Miss Joy. This fire fox was born on the ship last night. Can you give it a comprehensive physical examination?"

Joey nodded: "How cute, I'll leave it to my sister."

"Fu?"

The fire fox seemed puzzled as it was meeting a stranger for the first time, and Link gave it an encouraging look.

But perhaps because Joey and his assistant exuded a friendly atmosphere, Firefox quickly immersed itself in their gentle embrace.

While Foxy was getting a physical exam, Link borrowed some guide books that the center provided for trainers: "People and Pokémon", "Trainer's Guidelines", "Trainer's Profile", "Tips for Quadruped Pokémon", "Guidelines for Raising Land Pokémon", "Psychic Powers, an Introduction to Meditation", "The Secret of Fire", "Introduction to Pokemon Breeding", and "Professor Oak's Manzai Collection".

These books are all very new, and except for the last one, it seems that no one has borrowed them. I don't know if it's common sense or if no one cares.

But Link had to learn.

He had done a test not long ago and found that the props produced by the system had no effect on the fire fox, and the [Cultivation] column did not change after he tamed the fire fox.

This means that his cheats cannot provide any help to the Pokémon, but can only bring improvements to him as a trainer.

There are no Digimon in this world, so only attribute points, system items, and tamer skills are useful.

"Adding points" sounds impressive, but Link finds that his physical fitness is completely different from that of the people in this world.

If his first three dimensions (strength, agility, and physique) are all 10, then the average value of the first three dimensions of people in this world is probably around 15, with higher physique and lower strength.

There is currently no difference in the last three dimensions (intelligence, perception, and charm).

Link thought that as a healthy person at the peak of his health (the peak of his senior year in high school), he might have to share a table with sickly teenagers in this world.

It takes a lot of points and time to improve physical fitness to the average level of people in this world, and even after it is improved to that level, the gap between him and ordinary trainers will not be too big.

Therefore, Link was convinced that he had to find his own advantage range, first adding points and then improving his spiritual attributes in three dimensions.

If you can't cheat for the Pokémon, then the trainer can just add some points himself!

Then, noticing that Bit had reached level 1450 after Pokomon's continuous free fighting, he spent another 1000 points to improve his perception, raising the perception attribute to 12 points.

With that shudder, Link's perception, insight, and comprehension further increased, as if the whole world had become clearer.

Then he discovered that the number of bits needed to continue adding perception increased from 1,000 to 10,000.

If you increase the number of points by one for each attribute, you will need 20 million bits to increase the perception to 20...

At present, his efficiency in brushing bits is stable at about 200 points per hour. It will take 12 years to reach 20 by adding only perception points.

Far from the mark.

But Link believes that as the simulation progresses, Pokomon's strength will increase and it will be able to hang up in more difficult battles, greatly improving the efficiency of obtaining bits.

Killing a growing Patamon alone will give you 10 bits and gold coins, so killing an ultimate zero-win beast alone will give you at least 100,000 bits, right?

In short… simulate first, then learn!
