As she was driving, her stomach suddenly grumbled, only then did she realize that she hadn't eaten anything the whole day. She stopped at a roadside restaurant popular for tasty barbecue and noodles and ordered a big bowl of beef noodles.
After she was done eating she asked the owner if she could order 200 servings each type of their noddles and barbecue and he said it was possible. She could pick them up the following night. She was happy as she paid the deposit and left. At least she would be able to taste these foods even during the apocalypse.
After getting home, Leng Pan went straight to shower and once she was done she picked up her phone and send Lu Zhen a message.
[Are you free? I want to talk.]
Almost immediately, her phone buzzed.
[Where?]
Leng Pan smirked. This was the guy she would not let go of no matter what.
[My house.]
Ten minutes later, there was a knock at her door.
When she opened it, a tall man with sharp features and a powerful aura stood before her. Lu Zhen was devastatingly handsome, broad shoulders, sharp jawline, and piercing dark eyes. The whole package. He wore a fitted black suit, looking every bit the cold and untouchable CEO the novel had described.
His gaze softened when he saw her. Such a gaze could make any woman weak in the knees. How did the original Leng Pan resist this for so many years?
"You rarely ask to meet," he said, stepping inside. "What's wrong?" Using rarely is an understatement, she hardly ever wants to meet him. Especially alone. He had been frustrated for a long time because of this.
He actually didn't understand why he loved her so much. Yes, she was beautiful, but as the CEO of Lu corporation, he had seen countless beautiful women. Some had even plotted against him, climbing into his bed, but he never even flinched. Even when they threw themselves at him naked.
But when it came to Leng Pan, he was helpless. His heart would pound like it wants to escape through his chest and his body would heat up.
Unfortunately, she had always acted as if he had the plague and avoided him at all cost. He could do nothing about it and could only watch her from a distance.
He chose to move from his luxurious villa a year ago after she moved so that he could be close to her even if he couldn't approach her.
He knew she was not actually averse to him and only behaved like that out of loyalty to her best friend, but he couldn't understand why she would sacrifice her chance at happiness for a friend who didn't care about her.
It's just that, she didn't think her friend had any ulterior motives and thought she cared about her.
But he was not as naïve as Leng Pan. He knew that Bai Yinyin was like those women who threw themselves at him. She pretended to like him but was actually only interested in his money and power.
He didn't need such a greedy woman. Only the innocent Leng Pan would not see through such obvious greed.
However, he never understood why even though he was not interested in Bai Yinyin, some things related to her would always show up in front of him.
She had entered the entertainment industry and for some reason, had shot to fame with a very lousy and badly directed drama. Some companies had even offered her endorsements, which he couldn't understand as she was mediocre at best.
How could the leaders of the companies not know such obvious things. Then wherever he went, he would either see her advertisement or run into people talking about her. He could even see her advertisement posters in the elevator.
It was as if there was some kind of fate forcing him to notice her. But the more this happened, the more he wanted to pursue Leng Pan and the deeper he fell in love with her.
He sighed as he walked to the sofa in the living room.
He would never know that there was indeed some fate trying hard to bring him and Bai Yinyin together. It was the female lead halo.
Fortunately, he had a strong will power and had managed to break free from the control of the plot and could make independent decisions, but the plot would still try to make him the male lead supporting Bai Yinyin. That's why she was everywhere he went. It was giving him psychological hints to fall for her even if it could not control him anymore.
Leng Pan closed the door behind him.
She had read the novel. She knew Lu Zhen had always cared for her, but the original Leng Pan had never reciprocated. She had been too focused on being a "good friend" to Bai Yinyin to realize how much she was throwing away.
Not anymore.
She invited him to sit down and served him a cup of water.
She met his gaze and said calmly, "Lu Zhen, I need you to trust me."
Lu Zhen raised an eyebrow. "I already do."
"Okay, if I tell you to do something not morally compromising and not illegal, will you do it?"
"Of course, just say the word." Even though Lu Zhen was wondering what had gotten into Leng Pan and he could tell that something was different about her, he didn't care. As long as she wasn't avoiding him anymore. He would do anything.
Leng Pan tilted her head. "No questions asked?"
He chuckled lightly. "No questions asked."
"Good."
The original Leng Pan would have been flustered by even this simple conversation, but she was completely calm.
"You should prepare emergency supplies," she said, watching his reaction. "Food, medicine, survival equipment. Anything useful."
Lu Zhen narrowed his eyes. "Why?"
"No questions asked, remember?"
He studied her for a long moment before nodding. "Alright."
She was momentarily taken aback by how easily he agreed.
"You believe me just like that?" she asked.
Lu Zhen set down his glass. "I trust you."
Something flickered in his eyes, something deep and unreadable. But it was gone within a moment.
"Also, reinforce your apartment," she added. "Install extra security, strengthen the windows. You can consult the people coming to renovate my place tomorrow."
Lu Zhen smirked. "Are we preparing for war?"
"You'll see soon enough," she replied cryptically. "Also, make sure everything is done within five days and don't shy away from spending your money. It won't be useful for anything else.
He chuckled. "Alright, I'll do as you say."
