Chapter 46
Blaze and his group hurried through the crumbling ruins, their footsteps quick as dust and debris rained from above. The entire building groaned like a dying beast, its structure on the verge of total collapse.
"Man, why on earth is this building on the verge of collapsing?" Kaito complained, dodging a chunk of ceiling that nearly flattened him.
"Maybe because we have terrible luck?" Akira shot back, leaping over a fissure in the floor.
Lucas, who was sprinting ahead, suddenly shouted, "Wait! Someone's up ahead!"
As they emerged from the ruins, they saw a figure standing in the clearing.
It was Volt.
His usually pristine yellow clothes were in tatters, his body covered in dirt and scratches. His breath was heavy, and his expression was unreadable—but the energy radiating off him told them one thing: he had just survived a life-and-death battle.
Kaito, still furious at Volt for abandoning them earlier, immediately saw this as an opportunity for revenge.
"Hah! Looks like someone got their butt handed to them!" Kaito sneered. "What happened, Volt? Did you trip and fall down a cliff?
Akira sighed. "Kaito, stop antagonizing him."
But Blaze wasn't focused on Volt's tattered appearance.
Instead, his eyes narrowed as a thought crossed his mind. What kind of opponent could have pushed Volt this far?
Volt, as annoying as he was, was absurdly strong. He has witness his strength first hand, If something in this building had forced him into this state, then…
The thought sent a chill down Blaze's spine.
Whatever it was, it was terrifying.
Volt ignored Kaito's insults and reached into his cloth.
Then—he pulled out something that immediately shut Kaito up.
A beast core.
But not just any beast core.
A dark purple gem pulsing with immense energy.
The moment Blaze laid eyes on it, he felt a strange pressure.
Nephis gasped. "Wait... is that—?"
Lucas' eyes widened. "An Alkyl Phase Beast Core?!"
Silence.
Even Kaito, who had been ready to spew more insults, stood frozen.
The Alkyl Phase was the highest tier of beasts that could be found in a Green Portal Realm. These creatures were apex predators, nearly impossible to kill even for students. And yet—
Volt was standing here, holding the core of one.
Kaito's eyes sparkled as his thoughts instantly shifted from mockery to pure greed.
"If we bring this back to the academy, we could get an insane amount of points!" Kaito drooled, already daydreaming. "Think about all the things we could buy! Magical weapons! Artifacts! Luxurious meals! And best of all—I could finally have a harem!"
His imagination ran wild, picturing himself surrounded by beautiful girls, feeding him grapes and calling him Master Kaito.
But then—
"Blaze," Volt said, tossing the core to him. "Absorb it."
Kaito's dream shattered instantly.
"WHAAAAAAAAAAT?!" Kaito scream so loudly that the group feel as if there eardrum is about to explode "WHY THE HELL DOES BLAZE GET IT?! I THOUGHT WE WERE GONNA CASH IT IN!"
Volt barely even spared Kaito a glance. "He's the one who needs it the most."
Blaze caught the core, his grip tightening around the powerful core.
Should he absorb it?
Before he could decide, his system spoke.
---
[Quest Completed: Survive]
You have leveled up!
You have leveled up!
Congratulations! You have reached the Alkan Phase and become a Junior Wizard!
Blaze's body tensed.
He had advanced.
Then—
[Choose Your Awakening:]
1. Caster – Specializes in powerful spellcasting.
2. Enchanter – Enhances weapons and objects with magic.
3. Alchemist – Masters potion-making and magical chemistry.
4. Prophet – Gains precognitive abilities and powerful support magic.
5. Magic Warrior – Fuses magic and physical combat.
6. Summoner – Calls forth creatures to fight alongside them.
Blaze's breath hitched.
An Awakening?!
Normally, awakenings were predetermined—a person didn't get to choose. But for some reason… he could.
Before he could pick, another message popped up.
[If none of these options suit you, you may create your own Awakening.]
[Awakening Creation Cost: 1000 CP]
Blaze froze.
He could create his own class?!
His mind raced with possibilities, but before he could decide—
"Hey!" Kaito clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Why are you spacing out?!"
Blaze blinked, snapping back to reality.
"...It's nothing," he muttered.
For now, he kept the Awakening options to himself.
The group then move out of the building and then—
BOOOOOOOM!
The building behind them finally gave in.
The ground trembled as massive stone pillars crashed down, turning the once-grand structure into nothing but rubble.
"That was close," Kaito exhaled. "Imagine if we had still been in there!"
Lucas crossed his arms. "We were still in there like a minute ago."
Kaito waved him off. "Details, just details."
Nephis dusted off her clothes. "We only have two days left in this portal. We should start heading back."
The group nodded and headed back.
_ _ _ _
The portal flickered like a dying ember, its glow dimming as the magic circle around it pulsed ominously.
"I think we should close the portal," a man with a blue headband said, arms crossed as he stared at the swirling gateway.
The man beside him, wearing a green headband, nodded in agreement. "They've been in there too long. The expedition deadline passed hours ago. It's too dangerous to leave it open any longer."
A third man—this one with a black headband—stepped forward, eyes narrowing. "No. The Black Hero and his friends are still inside."
The blue headband scoffed. "Black Hero or whatever you call him, rules are rules. We can't risk a full-blown portal collapse just because a few stragglers didn't make it back in time."
"Stragglers?!" The black headband teacher clenched his fists. "Black hero is our department's greatest hope! How can you even think about—"
Before he could finish, the two other teachers moved swiftly. With some spells, they overpowered the Black headband man and bind him with a powerful spell.
"Sorry, but it's two against one," the green headband said coldly.
With that, they turned to the magical formation, chanting the spell to close the portal. The glyphs began glowing, shifting like gears in a grand mechanism.
Then—
SHWOOOOOOOOM!
A burst of light erupted from the portal as six figures suddenly stepped out.
A cheerful voice rang out. "Finally! We're out of that hellhole!"
Emerging from the swirling energy were Blaze, Lucas, Kaito, Nephis, Akira, and finally Volt.
The black headband teacher gasped in relief. "Blaze!"
Without thinking, he lunged forward and hugged Blaze tightly.
Blaze, still dazed from the portal's energy, stood there awkwardly. "...Uh, what?"
Kaito smirked. "Wow. Never thought I'd see a grown man cry over another guy."
The entire group turned to glare at him.
"What?" Kaito blinked. "I mean, I get it. Blaze is kinda cool, but let's not get all emotional here—OW!"
Lucas nodded in agreements.
Akira smacked the back of there heads.
Meanwhile, the returning students looked around. The atmosphere was tense. It didn't take long for them to hear the grim news.
Out of the 500 who had entered the portal… only about 300 had made it back.
A heavy silence fell over the group.
But there was no time to dwell on it now.
For now, they needed food, rest, and a long, long shower.
So they head out .
Later that night, Blaze sat on his bed, staring at the glowing text in front of him.
[Choose Your Awakening:]
1. Caster – Specializes in powerful spellcasting.
2. Enchanter – Enhances weapons and objects with magic.
3. Alchemist – Masters potion-making and magical chemistry.
4. Prophet – Gains precognitive abilities and powerful support magic.
5. Magic Warrior – Fuses magic and physical combat.
6. Summoner – Calls forth creatures to fight alongside them.
He frowned. I don't know what to choose this is confusing.
Blaze leaned back and sighed. "Maybe I should ask for advice."
Five minutes later.
Blaze sat at a table with Kaito, Lucas, Akira, and Nephis.
"So… if I'm to awaken my true nature which one do you think will suit me the best "
Kaito, as expected, immediately had opinions.
"Okay, let's go through them one by one," he said, cracking his knuckles. "First off, Caster? Nah. You don't look like the type to sit around and chant all day."
Blaze frowned.
"Yeah, you're not book nerdy enough," Kaito insisted.
Akira sighed. "What about Magic Warrior?"
Kaito shook his head. "Nope. Too cliché."
Lucas raised a brow. "Summoner?"
Kaito scoffed. "Imagine Blaze summoning some giant dragon, only for it to ignore him and go on a rampage. Nope."
Nephis rubbed her temples. "Enchanter?"
Kaito made a disgusted face. "You want Blaze to spend his life crafting trinkets instead of blowing stuff up?"
Blaze deadpanned. "So, according to you, I don't fit any Awakening?"
Kaito grinned. "Exactly!"
Blaze just stared at the lunatic he called a friend.
Lucas crossed his arms. "Then what do you suggest?"
Kaito smirked. "Simple! Blaze should create his own awakening" he said giggling at his own response which sounds totally insane.
Silence.
Then Blaze blinked.
"...Wait. the system do mention something like that" he thought then he left the group alone.
Back at his room.
Blaze pulled out the beast core Volt had given him and absorbed it into his system.
[Beast Core converted into Chaos Points.]
[Total CP: 1500.]
Then he moved to the option:
[Would you like to create your own Awakening?]
Blaze hesitated. Then, taking a deep breath, he selected:
YES.
A new prompt appeared.
[Describe your Awakening.]
Blaze thought hard.
"I want the ability to combine two or more elements to create new ones. I want to be able to evolve my spells, to push elemental magic beyond its normal limits."
A long silence.
Then—
[Processing…]
Seconds passed. Then minutes. Blaze started to sweat.
Had he broken the system?!
Just as he was about to give up, the system's voice rang out.

Blaze's eyes widened. "This… this is insane."
His strength had just skyrocketed.
But something told him… this was only the beginning
Meanwhile…
Deep within the academy, a figure in a blue robe entered his dimly lit room.
He glanced around. After ensuring that no one was watching.
He stepped toward his bedside table, placing his hand over a rune-carved surface.
With a whispered incantations, the table shifted—revealing a floating, glowing sphere.
The figure extended his hand, letting his mystic essence connect with it. The sphere glowed brightly.
Then, a voice—feminine and commanding—spoke.
"Squad C. Report."
The figure lowered his head slightly. "No sign of the Ultimate Weapon yet."
A pause. Then the female voice spoke again.
"Tsk. Disappointing. "
"But there is someone who will be useful to our cause" he continue
A long silence. Then the voice replied.
"Good. But remember our creed—"
Both voices spoke in unison.
"The world is but a battlefield, and only those who control power shall shape its fate."
The sphere dimmed, sinking back into the table.
The blonde hair figure exhaled, his eyes narrowing.
Soon… everything would begin. He said wryly. His blue eye glow in the darkness.
