Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: Dual Kamui

"Hayakawa Aki."

A young boy with sharp features, black hair, and green eyes introduced himself to Kanzaki Izanagi with a cold expression.

They were about to form a partnership.

"I'm Kanzaki Izanagi. We're partners for this commission. Please take care of me."

Izanagi smiled and extended his hand toward Aki.

Aki stared at his hand for a moment, hesitating as if unsure, before finally reaching out and shaking it.

Izanagi didn't mind Aki's aloof demeanor.

As a time traveler, he knew exactly what kind of person Hayakawa Aki was — and what had shaped him into the cold, distant individual he appeared to be.

This was the world of Chainsaw Man. The current year was 1993 — four years before the events of the original story.

At this point, Aki had yet to adopt his signature bun hairstyle or officially join Public Safety. He was still working as a civilian devil hunter.

"Your eyes... is that your devil's power?"

Aki's gaze lingered on Izanagi's blood-red eyes — their eerie pattern marked with twisted shapes that seemed to swirl within.

"That's right," Izanagi replied calmly.

In truth, this power was his trump card — the Mangekyō Sharingan: Kamui.

And not just one Kamui — he possessed both.

In a world like Chainsaw Man, where terrifying devils emerged from humanity's collective fears, surviving without some extraordinary power was practically impossible.

The strength of devils varied drastically — from weak entities like the Chicken Devil or Apple Devil to monstrous threats like the Darkness Devil or Death Devil.

Having watched both Naruto and Chainsaw Man, Izanagi knew well how powerful Kamui's space-time manipulation was. However, he also understood its severe drawbacks.

After all, this wasn't the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. Even using a single Kamui consumed enormous energy — let alone wielding both.

Fortunately, the system that accompanied his journey had a solution.

[Host: Kanzaki Izanagi]

[Strength: 10 (average human is 10)]

[Speed: 11 (average human is 10)]

[Vitality: 12 (average human is 10)]

[Unallocated Attribute Points: 1]

The system panel appeared before Izanagi's eyes with a single thought — visible only to him.

While "Strength" and "Speed" were self-explanatory, "Vitality" was more nuanced. It represented his stamina, resilience, and natural healing — essentially his life force.

Instead of consuming chakra like in Naruto, Kamui now drained Izanagi's vitality and ocular power.

The solution was simple — increase his "Vitality" attribute.

If his vitality was high enough, not only could he use Kamui without fear of exhaustion, but his entire body — including his eyes — could regenerate unless he died outright or went completely blind.

Attribute points were key. He had gained one when he first encountered Hayakawa Aki.

[Ding! Achievement unlocked: Partnered with Hayakawa Aki. Attribute points +2!]

Now, thanks to teaming up with Aki, he had two additional points to allocate.

"Unfortunately, the number of potential achievements is unclear, and the system doesn't specify what actions will unlock them... Hunting devils seems to be the most reliable option," Izanagi mused.

Upon arriving in this world, his first move had been to locate a civilian devil hunter base — a hub where hunters gathered to take on contracts and socialize.

In this world, standard human weapons were practically useless against devils. Thus, a special profession had emerged: the devil hunter. By forming contracts with devils, hunters could gain supernatural abilities in exchange for paying a heavy price — ranging from losing limbs to forfeiting their very lives.

Public Safety devil hunters, employed by the government, were generally more powerful and organized than their civilian counterparts. Becoming a Public Safety hunter required meeting high standards.

Civilian devil hunters, however, faced fewer restrictions — anyone who managed to contract a devil could join. As a result, civilian bases were chaotic melting pots of mercenaries and risk-takers.

By pure coincidence, Izanagi encountered Hayakawa Aki there.

At the time, Aki was struggling to find a partner for a commission that required at least two hunters. No one seemed eager to work with him. Seeing the opportunity, Izanagi had stepped in.

"Let me make one thing clear," Aki warned coldly. "This mission isn't simple. If you slow me down, I won't risk my life to save you."

Aki's bluntness was harsh, but his intent was clear — this devil was dangerous, and he expected Izanagi to quit while he still had the chance.

"It's fine. I'll do my best not to hold you back," Izanagi said with a faint smile.

"..."

Aki fell silent.

I hope this guy knows what he's getting into…

"That Hayakawa guy is so intense... Is anyone really dumb enough to partner with him?"

"That newcomer must be clueless. I bet he's fresh meat."

"Say what you want about Hayakawa, but the guy's strong. If that rookie's not careful, he's done for..."

Izanagi heard the murmurs from other hunters.

When he glanced at them, they instinctively avoided eye contact.

His blood-red Mangekyō Sharingan glimmered in the dim light — mesmerizing yet deeply unsettling. Those who locked eyes with him felt an overwhelming sense of dread, as though they might be swallowed whole by the abyss.

They turned away in fear, unwilling to provoke him further.

Izanagi didn't mind their reactions.

His Sharingan's dual Kamui couldn't be deactivated, yet unlike Kakashi Hatake, it didn't drain his energy constantly — a generous advantage granted by his system.

Even his fluency in Japanese was a gift from the system.

Aki noticed the uneasy stares around them. He studied Izanagi's eyes again.

This guy's devil power… it's unnerving.

Still, a newcomer with no combat experience was a gamble…

I just hope he survives the mission.
