Chapter 2 - Crashing a Lamborghini

The elevator door opened, and Alexandra rushed to the parking lot, her head whipping from side to side, searching for the fancy Lamborghini. The rage coursing through her made her movements erratic.

Mid-search, she felt a push from behind and almost tripped, but she caught herself before hitting the ground.

"Are you blind?" Alex turned and hissed at the stranger who pushed her.

The man's good looks immediately blew her away. His icy blue eyes and beautiful dark locks were the first things that caught her attention.

Too bad she wasn't in the mood to admire his striking visuals.

"You're the one running like a crazy person, not me. Watch where you step next time." His tone was cold and condescending. He brushed his suit like she had dirtied it and glowered down at her.

His action did not sit well with Alex, fuelling her rage. Though he was right and she was running around like a headless chicken, she refused to allow another pompous ass to disrespect her tonight.

"Maybe if you weren't so busy being a jerk, you would have seen me coming. You should learn to walk in a straight line instead of harassing innocent women." Her upper lips curled into a sneer. "Don't block the road with your insignificant presence."

He blinked and raised an eyebrow. "Insignificant?" The man scoffed in disbelief. Checking his phone, he clicked his tongue and shook his head. "Forget it. I don't have time to argue with the likes of you. I have something more important to attend to."

"And I have a car to crash. I hope you have a lovely evening." Her voice dripped with sarcasm. She threw her last words at him before running to the Lamborghini parked a few distances away from her.

She didn't turn to see if the man had left and hastily drove away from the hotel, almost hitting Chad, who stood in the way with a look of horror, knowing what came next.

As she drove away, Alex finally let out the tears she held back. No matter how she tried to hide it, Chad's betrayal cut her deeply. She really thought he was the one, considering how much love she had poured into their relationship.

How could someone pretend to love another person for two years? Two freaking years!

She pushed everyone away for his sake and sacrificed her hard-earned savings to see him successful. What did she get? A fucking bet. Pathetic.

He was a monster.

Tears clouded her vision, so she parked at the side of the dark road to cry. After sobbing for about fifteen minutes, she called the only person she trusted, Riley.

"I'm busy in the hospital, Alex-"

"You were right, Riley." Her voice was a whisper. "Chad never loved me. Our relationship…was a bet." A sob escaped her lips as she leaned her head against the wheel.

"My goodness, that asshole!" Riley yelled from the other side. "Where are you? I'll leave the hospital now so we can murder him together."

Alex smiled through the pain. "You shouldn't say that, you're a doctor. What would your patients say if they heard you conspiring to kill someone?"

"They'd help me bury the body," Riley remarked, and Alex believed her. She had met some of Riley's patients herself and they all loved her to death. Alex didn't doubt they would help her cover up a murder if she asked.

"I don't know what to do." She muttered, raising her head to glance around the brand-new car. A bitter taste formed in her mouth looking at it.

The car was Chad's reward for deceiving her. Call her petty, but she would only feel better when she saw it destroyed. She had to get her revenge somehow.

Determined, she started the engine and said, "I am going to crash it."

"Crash what? Don't do anything stupid." Riley sounded anxious from the other end.

Alex blocked Riley's voice out and stepped on the accelerator. The car moved, but just then, a silhouette appeared in front of her from nowhere. She tried to hit the brakes, but it was too late.

*Thump*

The body crashed into the car, smashing into the windshield, before slumping to the ground. Eyes wide in panic and jaw slacked, she swore, "Shit!"

"Why? What happened?" Riley asked, sensing her panic.

Alex froze in her seat for a solid minute, her heart racing against her ribcage before she responded. "I think I just killed someone."

Julian watched the strange woman, who bumped into him, drive off, almost hitting another man as she left. He shook his head. The world was filled with more insane than sane people. He just prayed she didn't run over anybody on the road.

But he couldn't be bothered by that.

Having seen enough, he went to the dining area in the hotel which he reserved for his date. Tonight, he was meeting the woman his parents arranged for him to marry.

As the only child of the Saintclaire family, his parents, especially his mother, pressured him to settle down and give them a grandchild.

Julian wasn't interested in any of that but as the CEO of Saintclaire conglomerates, he knew he had a reputation to maintain.

Although he felt nothing for this woman, her family's connection would help their business.

So after much persistence, he finally relented and agreed to meet the lady and lay out some of his conditions for the marriage.

The hotel staff hastily greeted him as he walked in and led him to his table. Ignoring their fawning, he sipped a glass of champagne with his fingers tapping on the table, counting every passing second.

Ten minutes later, he grew impatient and phoned his assistant.

"Warren, is Miss Sierra Leone coming or not? She is wasting my time." Julian didn't bother hiding his annoyance.

"Sir, it has only been ten minutes. I'm sure she is on her way-"

"No," He felt a flicker of irritation. "Don't bother. The arrangement is off. If she doesn't have the decency to be punctual to such an important meeting, she isn't ready to marry me. Tell her not to contact me again."

Wasting not a second more, Julian hung up and left the hotel. Anger bubbled inside of him as he drove. Two things he valued were his time and pride, and tonight, not one but two women had belittled his values.

At least, now, his parents wouldn't bring up the topic of marriage for a while. He had tried his best.

This was a bad evening.

Feeling the urge to smoke, he parked his car at the side of the road before crossing to the other side, entering a convenience store nearby for a pack of cigarettes.

It wasn't a busy night and only a few people were around the premises.

He paid in cash and was returning to his car when he heard the rev of an engine and white light suddenly blinded him. Before he could move out of the way, a sharp pain traveled through his body and he fell, hitting his head hard on the pavement.

He instantly lost consciousness.
