Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Scuffle in the streets

'To think I can send a full grown man flying several meters. Also these guys are slow, is this because of my magic power?" He thought

This came as quite the shock. He knew that the magic energy had been tempering his body, but hadn't expected that it had strengthened him to this level. Also the magic eyes allowed him to see clearer and farther, what he didn't expect was that it enhanced his instincts and reflexes. In a battle being able to see your opponents every move was extremely important, be cause only then could you react properly. So what if you were strong? If you can't even see your opponent you wouldn't be able to defend yourself from their attacks and you had an even lesser chance of being able to land an attack.

Just as Drake was kicking the spear wielder, the other man lunged forward to strike him. Drake gracefully turned and grabbed the hand that was holding the steel baton with his left as it was coming down. He twisted the arm and bent the wrist causing the man to loosen his grip and the steel baton dropped to the ground, Drake raised his leg kneeing him in the stomach. As the man folded over Drake released the hand he had been holding and brought his right fist down in a hammer fist to the back of his head, knocking him out.

That's three!

The first man that had ended up on his back was up and rushing at Drake. So he stepped to the side and the man ran into one of the remaining men that had been running at him with his spear, this guy had just come out of the crowd. Stepping up to the two men that were still a bit disordered, Drake grabbed the spear as it was thrust at him and side kicked the other man in the stomach causing the man to bend over losing his breakfast, he vomited in the street.

The man tried to reclaim his spear, but no matter how much he pulled it wouldn't budge. it was like Drake's grip was an immovable vice.

Drake pulled the spear out of the shocked man's hands only to return the butt into his stomach making him double over before raising it and bringing It down on the back of his head. He stepped up to the two trying to untangle themselves and struck one on the temple and kicking the other in the head.

"And stay down!"

Drake raised his head to look around only to see that everyone was starring at him. As expected, humans were special creatures. So special that when something happened whether good or bad the first thing that came to their minds wasn't to run away, or help. No their first instinct was to watch. Some idiots even activated the video record of their Sky links.

After all, it had nothing to do with them.

These people had been around from the start to end watching the whole skirmish but not one of them tried to lend a hand. Listening to the whispers of the crowd, he frowned at the amount of attention he was attracting. So he turned and was about to leave.

"Wait!" A clear voice sounded behind him

Just then the lady that had raised the alarm along with the city guard had walked out of the crowd arriving at the open space. She quickly picked up her purse from the ground. It was a green palm sized purse shaped like a folded leaf, with sparkling pearls adorning it, it was quite beautiful.

"Thank you very much for stopping them." She said as she approached him gratefully bowing her head.

Drake was immediately stunned when he laid eyes on her. She looked to be about fifteen to sixteen years old, wearing a beautiful green sleeveless dress that stopped at her knees betraying her nicely tanned skin. With a slender body and slim waistline, her wavy pitch black hair cascading down her back to her waist, she had a radiant face and rosy cheeks.

Beautiful!

That was the only word that came to mind when he laid eyes on this girl.

"That has to be a 99 right? That's just one off from an absolute one hundred!"

"Um Excuse me?" She said as she raised her head. However she was instantly dumbstruck once she saw that handsome face.

After he had awakened his magic energy it had modified his physical features, it had made his originally good looks to now be devilishly attractive.

'Oh yes, you're welcome. You don't need to worry about it." Drake said, as he finally managed to shake himself free from his dazed state, and the stupid look on his face vanished as he regained his composure. 'Who is this girl?' He thought.

"No wait!" Seeing that he was about to leave the girl hastily stepped forward grabbing hold of his sleeve, but then upon realizing what she had just done she quickly withdrew her hand and stepped back as her face flushed.

"I, I didn't mean anything. I, my name is Sylvia."

"Sylvia huh? That's a nice name. What can I do for you?"

"Oh! No, no it's not that. I mean I don't need you to do any thing for me. it's just…" she stuttered as she struggled to find the words before managing to say, "I was wondering if there was anything I could do to repay you."

Seeing her flustered state, Drake couldn't help but reveal a gentle smile. "In that case you don't need to do anything. Take care of yourself; it was nice meeting you Sylvia."

She was immediately dazed when he smiled. She was stuck in that moment, not even noticing that he had already left until somebody walked up to her and shook her.

"Miss! Miss!"

"Hmm?"

"Miss, we've arrested all the thieves." The city guard said. He had been busy cuffing and arresting the pickpockets while she talked to Drake and had only just finished. So he quickly came over to comfort the young lady when he noticed that she was stuck staring into open space, he was worried and hoped she wasn't traumatized.

From the way she was dressed, and her beautiful countenance and fine features he could tell that her background wasn't ordinary. She was probably the daughter of some rich tycoon.

'Hope she doesn't start losing it like all the other pompous young masters and miss's. If she tells daddy about this and he makes trouble at the station, I'll be screwed once they find out this happened under my jurisdiction.' he cried inwardly.

"Oh thank you officer. Did you manage to see the young man that was just here?" she inquired.

"Young man? You mean the guy who took down the thieves? He already left a while ago."

"Is that so? Alright then thank you officer. Do you need me to answer any questions? Do I need to come to the station with you."

"That won't be necessary, I saw the whole thing.".He hastily turned her down nicely.' Are you kidding me? Why the hell would I want you over at the station? It's already good enough that you're not throwing a tantrum. Only an idiot would provoke that headache, I just hope I can sweep this whole thin under the rug and make it disappear.'

"In that case, I'll be going home now." She nodded almost absentmindedly, before turning to depart, but even as she did she couldn't get that mysterious guy's face out of her head. She promised herself she would try to find him once she got home. 'Hold on! What was his name? I forgot to ask for his name! How could I forget to ask his name?"

Drake continued on his way, he was pleased with the results of that test run with his magic power. He soon saw a food stand being run by a middle aged woman, and his stomach growled with desire as he caught the aroma of delicious meat dishes. Only now did he remember that he hadn't had any breakfast and it was already almost lunch time.

Listening to the protests of his stomach, he smiled and walked over to grant its wishes.

He might have become a mage, but that didn't mean he could immediately dump one of the primal desires of man. For now he still needed food to survive just like every normal person.

As he went over and gave his order, he caught a working girl whispering to the middle aged woman. Apparently she was in the crowd when he had dealt with the pickpockets.

The woman smiled kindly at him after hearing her daughter's words, even saying a few extra words.

Fantasy characters usually say stuff like; 'Nothing travels faster than news among commoners especially in the markets.' And you'd expect they would do something like give him a discount since they recognized him as the guy that took down the group of pickpockets. Unfortunately, reality don't wok like that little brother, you gotta pay the whole thing. And if it weren't because it was units he would be transferring over, they would gladly accept, if you were to pay cash and say 'Keep the change.'

He ate as he walked, Humanity might have advanced, but the magic of food stands was something that just couldn't fade away into history.
