**Chapter 25: Fragments of Truth**

The morning was unusually silent, the air thick with unease as Isabella lingered by the window, her eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of answers—or trouble. Luca sat across the room, his fingers clutching the old leather journal that seemed to weigh him down with each passing day. The memory of the constable's warning and Carlo's cryptic words pressed heavily between them.

"I need to go back to the vineyard," Luca said suddenly, breaking the silence.

Isabella turned to him, her gaze sharp. "What are you hoping to find there? More pieces of your broken memories?"

Luca hesitated, his jaw tightening. "Maybe," he admitted. "But I can't just sit here and wait for the answers to come to me. There's something out there—something I need to remember."

Isabella stepped closer, her voice softening. "You don't have to do this alone, Luca. Whatever's waiting for us out there, we'll face it together."

Her words seemed to anchor him, and after a moment, he nodded. The two of them set out toward the grove, the morning light casting long shadows across the vineyard as though the land itself was hiding something.

As they approached the grove, Isabella's heart raced. The twisted branches of the trees seemed to whisper secrets, and the faint scent of lavender mingled with the earthy aroma of the soil. Luca paused, his gaze distant as though the grove held answers just out of reach.

"This is where it happened," he said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. "This is where I saw her last."

Isabella waited, her breath caught as she watched him struggle to piece together the fragments of his memory. "What do you remember?" she urged gently.

"There was an argument," Luca said, his voice trembling. "I heard her shouting—someone was threatening her. I tried to stop them, but…"

He faltered, his hands trembling as the words refused to come. Isabella placed a comforting hand on his arm. "It's okay," she said softly. "Take your time."

Luca closed his eyes, the tension in his face sharp as he fought to recall the blurry images in his mind. "She was holding something," he said finally. "A key. I think she was trying to hide it."

Isabella's breath hitched. "A key?"

Luca nodded, his eyes darting to the ground as though the answers were buried there. "It's connected to the vineyard somehow. I'm sure of it."

Before Isabella could respond, a sound broke through the silence—a rustling in the grove that sent a chill down her spine. The two of them froze, their senses heightened as the sound grew closer.

"Who's there?" Luca called, his voice steady despite the fear in his eyes.

The rustling stopped, and from the shadows emerged a figure—a man with a weathered face and a knowing smile. Isabella's heart raced as she recognized him.

"Pietro?" she said, her voice filled with disbelief.

The man nodded, his gaze falling on Luca. "It seems we're all searching for answers," Pietro said, his tone calm yet charged with meaning. "But be careful. This vineyard holds truths that may not be worth the price you'll pay to uncover them."
