Chapter 23: Gifted Disciple Blessed by the Father of the "Blind Douluo," Part III
Ye Wen had briefly considered accepting Huo Rui as an honorary younger sister to mentor her. However, knowing that he already had Ah Yin, he felt that adding another "sister" might seem a bit inappropriate. After all, how many honorable people collect so many "adopted sisters"? Besides, his task was to reshape this world's future, and assembling his team of allies was essential. Huo Rui, with her extraordinary Innate Body Spirit, had the potential to become a formidable asset.
Having a "younger sister" would mean indulging in her whims as a child, but as a disciple, she would follow his rigorous training plan, accelerating her growth to reach her full potential as quickly as possible.
Ye Wen inquired about Huo Rui's family situation and learned she lived with her mother and a younger brother a year her junior. Deciding to take the entire family under his care, Ye Wen thought, Why not? I have enough money to support them. Huo Rui's rough upbringing, after her father disappeared while hunting, had clearly affected her. Without his guidance, her family had struggled to survive, forcing young Huo Rui to bear heavy responsibilities, likely stunting her spirit power growth.
After gathering their few belongings, Ye Wen prepared to leave Jinmai Village with Huo Rui's family. Just as they were about to depart, the girl Lanlan ran over, breathless, and asked him earnestly, "Big Brother, can I become your disciple too?"
Seeing her hopeful expression, Ye Wen hesitated. His initial instinct was to refuse. As a spirit, Blue Silver Grass had few practical uses. With Ah Yin already by his side, he had little interest in such a weak spirit.
"Why do you want to become my disciple?" he asked. "I already explained how you should train your spirit. If you follow that path, reaching Spirit Elder is a realistic goal."
"I want to grow stronger," Lanlan replied, her voice tinged with sadness.
Ye Wen, noticing her haunted expression, decided to probe further. "Why do you want to grow stronger, Lanlan?"
"I... my parents… they were killed by a noble's carriage in Nuoding City. The village elder said they were killed by wild wolves, but their injuries didn't match. Later, I learned that a noble's carriage ran them over while they were driving recklessly," she explained. "I want revenge, but my spirit is too weak. Even if I reach Spirit Elder, it wouldn't be enough to face a noble."
Ye Wen was stunned. This six year old girl had not only recognized her parents' cause of death but had managed to gather information to piece together the truth. His heart went out to her.
"Alright, then. I happen to have a few theories I'd like to test on your spirit," he said at last. "I'll accept you as a disciple, though you'll be a registered disciple rather than a formal one. Your talent has limits, but perhaps with some creative guidance, I can help you exceed them."
She nodded, eyes wide with determination.
"As for your parents' killers, leave them to me," he continued. "Vengeance isn't something you can pursue recklessly. If you tried alone, it would end badly, and your village would likely suffer for it too. Nobles rarely face justice for their actions."
After a few words with Chief Mike, Ye Wen secured permission to take Lanlan along. The elder, who had cared for her in her parents' absence, seemed somewhat oblivious to the depth of her intelligence, granting permission easily and urging Ye Wen to take good care of her.
Upon their arrival back at Saint Soul Village, Ye Buyi was surprised to see Ye Wen bringing back an entire family. But after hearing the story of the children and his grandson's decision to take disciples, he was supportive. The family fortune had expanded considerably after the first group of children with enhanced soul power began to show promise. With a stronger foundation than ever, Ye Buyi's flexibility and openness to the new arrivals only grew.
Ah Yin, however, was thrilled to meet Lanlan. She immediately took the girl under her wing, delighted by her Blue Silver Grass spirit. As Ah Yin had the same spirit herself, she found joy in mentoring Lanlan, eager to help her refine her talent.
After settling Huo Rui's family and Lanlan into the village, Ye Wen began formal training for Huo Rui, focusing on the unique attributes of her Innate Body Spirit.
"First of all, you need to understand that I don't agree with the traditional classifications of spirits," Ye Wen said to Huo Rui. "Most of the world categorizes spirits into two types Tool Spirits and Beast Spirits. But that doesn't account for spirits like yours."
He paused, making sure she was following. "Your spirit isn't an animal or tool it's a part of you. We humans are not beasts, and treating your spirit as one is diminishing its uniqueness. That's why I call it an Innate Body Spirit a spirit that awakens from a core part of oneself."
Huo Rui listened intently, wide eyed, nodding as she took in his words.
"Master, how should I train, then?" she asked eagerly.
Ye Wen was pleased with her enthusiasm. "Not so fast. First, you need to understand the rarity and power of your spirit, or you'll struggle to develop it properly. After extensive research, I've concluded that the strength of Innate Body Spirits depends on the body part that awakens as the spirit."
"Take common Innate Body Spirits as an example," he continued, "like spirits that manifest in limbs or hair. These spirits are powerful, but because they're not vital parts of the body, they only awaken with innate power levels between three and six. In larger cities, that's still considered talent, but it's limited. That's why I classify these spirits as high to top level spirits."
Huo Rui's eyes shone with fascination as he spoke.
The difference between a Super Spirit and a Top or High Level Spirit lies in the extreme properties or innate abilities that Super Spirits inherently possess. Unlike High Level or Top Spirits, which merely carry some elemental attribute, Super Spirits offer a profound and unique boost.
The clearest examples can be found among the "Upper Three Sects."
The Clear Sky Sect's Clear Sky Hammer grants its user an unparalleled density and impact so intense that unless one wields an equally powerful Super Spirit, a single strike from the hammer could inflict severe injuries on an ordinary spirit wielder.
The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan, though it caps out at Level 79, provides an extraordinary trait. Each added spirit ring exponentially boosts all previous spirit ring effects, making it the most distinguished auxiliary spirit in the realm and granting it the title of "Number One Auxiliary Spirit in the World."
Lastly, there's the famous Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, often hailed as the top beast spirit. While the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon qualifies as a Super Spirit, it's actually not that high ranking among dragon type spirits based on my research, there are at least ten other dragon spirits stronger than it. But this spirit should not be underestimated; its innate dragon transformation ability grants Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon spirit masters tremendous strength enhancement up to the Spirit Saint level. This distinctive quality ensures the clan's position among the Upper Three Sects. Without such a formidable boost, their single Titled Douluo would hardly secure their ranking.
But let's get back to you. Over time, I'll explain more about the intricacies of the spirit master world.
According to my research, each of these top tier Innate Body Spirits represents a different training path.
The Brain Spirit, as you might guess, relates to spiritual power. Records I found show that one Brain Spirit wielder reached Spirit Saint rank, known for their skill "Soul Impact" a technique so potent that even Spirit Douluo dared not withstand it directly.
Then there's the Eye Spirit, another master of spiritual power like the Brain Spirit master but with a different focus. This spirit wielder's technique could entrap opponents in intricate illusions with mere eye contact, using a refined method of creating mental illusions that surpasses brute force mental attacks. In the end, this Eye Spirit master even attained the rank of Titled Douluo.
Originally, I suspected the Eye Spirit might relate to perception and insight. But considering that "the eyes are the windows to the soul," I suspect the Eye Spirit Titled Douluo had a dual spirit both Eye and Brain.
Finally, we arrive at your Innate Body Spirit the Heart. What would you guess the Heart Spirit relates to?"
Deep in thought, Huo Rui contemplated her previously "useless" spirit, now understanding it was secretly a Super Spirit.
"Is it...blood?" she ventured.
Ye Wen nodded approvingly at her intuition.
"Exactly. Blood. The heart, one of the body's most vital organs, powers the circulation of blood throughout the body. When the Heart Spirit awakens, it enhances blood flow, which is why you should feel your physical strength increase and your energy levels rise."
With a patient and thoughtful expression, Ye Wen continued to reveal the hidden potential within Huo Rui's powerful Innate Body Spirit.
