Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Possible Causes of Explosion

The room was silent, disturbed only by a muffled hum from outside.

Lon sat on the bed — his legs were so tired they could barely hold him anymore.

His thoughts revolved around the words Gredorik had said.

Gredorik and Dilan stood nearby. The first one crossed his arms over his chest, staring tensely at the floor, while the second traced his finger along his chin, as if gathering his thoughts.

— As I already said… — Gredorik finally spoke. — Right now, we have two main theories.

He raised one finger:

— First. Someone deliberately blew up the engine. The Seon Guard suspects that instigators are behind this. Maybe people who want to harm the government. The engine could have been destroyed as an act of sabotage.

— This is currently under investigation.

Lon listened attentively. His gaze remained calm, but tension grew inside him.

— The second theory, — Gredorik raised a second finger, — is related to the Technicians.

Dilan scoffed and shook his head.

— I doubt it. Why would they do that? They can already control the World Threads. And have you seen how arrogant those guys are? If they wanted to blow up the engine for some reason, half of Seon's air fleet would have crashed by now.

— Exactly, — Gredorik nodded. — But we can't rule this option out. Technicians are different, and you shouldn't jump to conclusions just because you met them once. Drob is a good example. Even though he is a Technician, he is respected.

After these words, Dilan lowered his head, realizing his mistake.

«Technicians…»

Lon knew who they were thanks to Renvel's memories.

To put it simply, Technicians could manipulate the World Threads — the very fabric of the world.

Something akin to local magic. But unfortunately, that was all he knew.

And he wasn't going to ask anyone — it was too dangerous.

To avoid drawing attention, he took a deep breath and asked:

— What about the consequences?

— They are minor, not critical, — Gredorik replied. — Only twenty people were injured, and fortunately, there were no fatalities. The biggest loss, of course, is the engine itself.

Dilan, standing nearby, darkened.

He had worked on that engine for six months!

And everything was destroyed because of some bastards!

Lon noticed his reaction and gave a bitter smile. Seeing Dilan's state, Gredorik patted him on the shoulder.

— When they find those bastards, I'll personally deal with them! — Dilan growled.

— I'll help you, — Lon supported him.

Dilan smirked, already imagining the suffering of the culprits.

Gredorik sighed heavily, watching his colleague's reaction, and said:

— We'll inform you if there's any new information.

Lon gave a faint smile.

— Thanks.

Gredorik and Dilan left, closing the door behind them.

Lon exhaled and lay down on the bed, thinking:

«The engine… I wonder who those people were that blew it up?»

Then, suddenly, his face twisted in realization.

«Damn it! They're the reason I ended up in this world!»

«Those bastards! When I find them, I'll deal with them myself.»

Without noticing, Lon slowly closed his eyes and soon drifted into sleep.
