Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Magic Lessons With Emma

(POV Emma)

2 hours later . . .

"Sweetie, it's already 7 pm. Have you completed your homework yet?" I asked while looking at my son with an eyebrow raised.

"Mom, I thought we agreed I would be homeschooled since last week?" My son asked while trying to worm my way out of finishing my boring school homework.

'I've played these games before, child... You can't fool your mother any longer with those kinds of games.' I thought while smiling at my son's poor attempts at distracting me.

"No boy of mine is going to be a knowledgeless bum! Get to work Sweetie, or else I won't tell you any more cool magical stories of me, and your father in our old school hunting days before you were born." My mom threatened me trying to take away one of my new favorite pass times.

"Mom aren't you and Dad in your 40s or something, Dad said you guys had me when you were in your 30s. "I asked, not realizing my mistake till later.

Emma's eyes glowed as her rage felt like a volcano was in front of Lucas, and the heat scared him a bit.

"Sweetie, how old do I look again?" I asked.

My son started to hide behind a bookshelf inside my library, oddly enough, though.

"Mom, you look to be in your 20s like Dad. Whenever you came to school to pick me up back in the day, they always asked me if you were my older sister." He hastily replied as my anger faded rapidly.

"So my baby boy does have a heart. Lucas, if I look in my 20s, just say I'm 21 because I know with my magical talents,

I'll be 21 forever!" I replied with a big smile as my head turned to the side to stare at my son.

'It worked... It looks like Mom had forgotten about my homework after I brought up her age.' He thought as a small smiled formed.

'Where else could I learn these skills if not Mom... Does she think I don't pay attention when she uses her little tricks to make Dad forget about anything she wants to avoid?' He thought to himself.

. . .

10 minutes later . . .

"Sweetie, you need a strong foundation to build a great empire upon it. A strong tree needs deep, and strong roots to last. It needs the ability to absorb nutrients from the outside.

Do you understand, or is this too hard for my genius little boy with a big head? Do you need a dumb-downed example?" I said while teasing my baby boy a bit as his ego had grown a bit too big for my liking.

"No Mom, I understand you completely. You told me to learn as much as I can here to have enough knowledge to support my future endeavors, or some similar I think." I replied.

'It could use some work in his explanation and comprehension. But it's good enough for a beginner.' I thought as I nodded and gave my son a thumbs up.

As my son was studying I summoned a new book from inside the room to my side. It was an old blue leather book I had purchased after our little goblin auction with my Honey Bear was completed three years ago. Inside the book were the classifications of most known magical knowledge.

"Sweetie, you should know our power system has three classifications. First are the naturals, the learners, and the hol– borrowers. Me, you, and almost everyone on our side of the family are naturals in magical talent.

We have our own innate source of power.

With our talents far surpassing any normal mage with our mere existence. We have the strength to create our spells into existence without any outside energy source. Others need help to hold the arcane truth with foreign powers." I explained all the while as he sat down in his chair in what looked to be a wonder.

"Take pride in yourself, sweetie. We are a superior race compared to most mages! Take pride in your gifts of mana and your innate connection with the Arcane Truth via mana.

Learners are just people who learned the arcane arts, and with years to decades of practice, they managed to make a spell come into reality.

Most learners rely upon the world or outside sources to fuel their spells. While Learners are generally weaker than any class of natural magic users, they are still a respectable bunch who also pursue the Arcane Truth." I explained further about this topic while my son watched on.

"Borrowers are con artists, sweetie remembers this. They're, as you would say it, talentless hacks. Most of those nobodies never learn any magic themselves. Most made deals with demons/other mythical races to obtain powers.

The spells and power of a borrower are all temporary. Most of them don't even understand the principles behind the power." My anger was rising just talking about them, but I had to hold it in to give my baby boy an honest basis free, education like my Honey Bear wanted.

"Those fakers often sell their souls for mediocre levels of power. The borrowers deserve what they get coming to them since all willingly made contacts with entities to borrow their power. Son, power always has a price, make sure to educate yourself on the price before accepting." I replied as I was about to move on to the next topic.

"Mom, why do you seem to hate borrowers so much?" My baby boy asked while he was very ignorant of the history of hate between all who use magic and the borrowers.

"Sweetie, have you heard of the Salem witch trials? How many proud and noble magicians were all burned at the stake throughout history?Remember how they accused all who used magic to be minions of the devil? It was them, it was all fucking them!" I raised my voice as the venom in my voice was obvious to anyone who heard it. I know I'm right, those hollows are the ones in the wrong...
