Chapter 20: Run!
Inside a destroyed pharmacy, the figure of a Vashin could be seen. He was lying on a counter and his body was covered in bandages. The smell of medicine lingered on his body. He had brown skin and black hair. A white horn with black marks extended from his forehead.
His name was Thorez. He is a newly birthed Vashin of the Entora empire and is particularly talented when it comes to battle. The young Vashin had not expected that the mission he was sent on would go so wrong. His eyes flattered as they opened slowly.
Thorez looked at his unfamiliar surroundings with confusion. 'What happened? Where am I? The last thing I remember is…' Thorez thought to himself as he remembered the events that occurred before he went unconscious.

Flashback:
Thorez was searching through the rubble near the realm tunnels of Celestial Academy. He knew that he was on a time limit. But he needed to make sure that, the human who exposed him was dead. 'Where are you bastard' he thought to himself as he activated the scanning function of his gauntlets.
He soon found the human and persuaded him. His goal was very simple, to kill that human. But things went wrong after he passed a hologram that was trying to distract him. A spherical drone exploded in front of his body. He was injured with burns covering the unprotected parts of his body.
Even his armor suffered damage. The human raised a gun and pointed it to shoot at him. Thorez knew he was wide open. One good shot is all that would be needed to kill him right now. Thorez was furious by his situation and his rage was targeted at the human that had caused all of this.
But surprisingly the human didn't shoot him. Thorez saw the hesitation in the human eyes. He knew that gaze all too well, he once had that exact empathetic look. Things got chaotic after that as one of his comrades threw an explosive that would take out the human and everything in range.
His comrade was confident that Thorez would be teleported before the explosion. Even Thorez realized this and approved of his comrade's plan. Just as he was enveloped by spatial energy and got teleported away. Something went wrong as the once stable spatial energy went crazy.
Before he could process what was happening. He found himself in mid-air. His body fell from more than 100 meters in the air. His body then hit the concrete edge of a building rooftop. He then fell into an allay as he bounced off the walls and hit the ground. The impact left him in a much more injured and dazed state.
He tried to reorient himself but it was hard. A few minutes later he heard some sounds. He raised his head only to see that accursed human before him. He knew his situation was bad but he wouldn't go down without a fight. He tried to stand up only to have his body fail him. His vision went black as he went into unconsciousness. The last thought that ran through his mind was 'It's over his going to kill me and there's nothing I can do about it'.
End of flashback

'How am I still alive' Thorez thought in confusion. As he turned his head to the side he saw Samuel seated. Samuel was fixing the loot he got from the pharmacy. Samuel raised his head and the two locked eyes. "Seems like you are awake. Hope you enjoyed your beauty sleep" Samuel said with a smile.
Hearing his words and his smile annoyed Thorez "You f*cking human" he said in the Vashin's native language. Yet for some reason Samuel still understood his words. When inside Nexus people get the ability to understand the languages of other intelligent life forms.
Thorez tried standing up but his body trembled in pain "Grunt!" he grunted in pain. "Don't move too much or your wounds will reopen. I don't have any more medical supplies to help you out" Samuel said. Hearing Samuel say this made Thorez pause. He was wondering how he had survived and this human was saying that he saved him. His facial expression turned to that of disbelief and confusion.
Seeing his expression Samuel only chuckled and said "Yeah I know it's crazy. Why would I save an enemy that tried killing me? It was stupid if I'm being honest" Samuel said as he closed his bag of supplies. "flash!" a flash of soft light appeared in the pharmacy as Thorez summoned his Karna. he was now seated on the counter.
His expression was dark as he said "I don't know what sick plans you have human. But I'm not taking part in them. What possible reason would you have to save me" Samuel raised his hands to show he didn't want to fight. "Wow! Calm down. When I saw you unconscious in the alley I couldn't bring myself to take you out. It felt wrong to do so and I've never killed a person before so…" Samuel spoke but his words were interrupted "That's stupidity. I am an enemy to your whole race. Trained to kill every human I encounter. I don't believe in kindness.
Especially such a naïve form of it" Thorez said coldly yet he didn't shoot. This human had not killed him on 2 separate occasions. That alone made Samuel's reasons a little more believable to Thorez. "I know it's stupid. But that's not the only reason. Right now we are in Nexus. Our location is unknown and I don't know what threats are out there. Since you came here there is also the possibility that your comrades are around.
So having you as an allay would only benefit me. If we face monsters we can work together to survive and if we meet your comrades you can Put in a good word for me so I'm not killed on sight." Samuel said. Hearing his explanation made Thorez feel that Samuel was probably telling the truth.
If Samuel kept talking about wanting to help him without receiving anything in return. He would have not trusted his words. But now that he explained what he wanted in return it made Thorez trust his reasons more.
'If I'm in Nexus I can just teleport out. But I'll be back in that human academy' Thorez thought. "If you're thinking about teleporting out of here with your Karna it won't work. This place were in doesn't allow us to leave Through any means. Even teleportation" Samuel said. Thorez didn't believe him so he checked his Karna and it did not respond when he called for teleportation.
After a few seconds of silence, Thorez lowered his hand and unsummoned his Karna. "Fine human you get to live for now," Thorez said as he looked around himself. Samuel sighed in relief.
Then Thorez's voice reached his ears. "Where is my gear?" Samuel quickly pointed under the counter. Thorez got down and picked up his armor, gauntlets and utility belt. He wore them and soon started leaving.
While leaving he discreetly reached into his utility belt and took out a pill. He ate it and kept going. He reached the pharmacy's entrance "Where are you going, we need to stick together. This place might have dangerous monsters or worse." Thorez paused and turned to face Samuel.
"Just because I decided to not kill you does not mean we are working together. Letting a human live is one thing but to work with one. I would rather stab myself" Thorez said. "But we don't know what dangers are out there." Samuel tried to convince him to stay "Do I look like an idiot to you? You have been here for at least more than an hour from what I can tell. In all that time nothing has happened. Even if they are dangers around here I'll handle them myself." While Thorez spoke he couldn't notice that 3 figures slowly crept up behind him.
Samuel sensed them and started backing away. Thorez saw this weird behavior and felt confused. "I think we should run," Samuel said as he pointed his finger at the creatures behind Thorez. Thorez was at first confused but he then heard a sound behind him. He turned around and saw 3 humanoid monsters with glowing purple eyes.
The moment he saw them they rushed at him.
With unusually wide mouths that were filled with razor-sharp teeth. They had a crazed look in their eyes that sent a shiver up Thorez's spine, he summoned his Karna "Bang! Bang!..." he shot at the strange creatures. The bullets pierced their bodies and sent them rolling back. Thorez let out a sigh as he turned back to Samuel only to see a look of dread on his face. "Dude we need to run," Samuel said louder than before. Thorez was at first confused.
"I killed them why are you so scared," Thorez said with a frown. Samuel then said "They aren't dead" Thorez was confused but he then looked at the creatures he thought he killed only to see them regenerating. They stood up as the holes in their bodies closed at a visible speed.
"We are surrounded, they are everywhere," Samuel said again. Thorez was confused so he used his gauntlets scanner. It beeped and his display was filled with red dots everywhere around them. A least a hundred of them. He turned to say something to Samuel only to see him running out through another side of the pharmacy. The was a hole in the wall so Samuel ran through it and didn't look back.
Thorez was stunned for a second but then he heard the sounds of multiple creatures running. He instantly followed Samuel. Due to his injured state, his speed was reduced greatly. But he was still able to run out of the pharmacy. Once he got out through the hole in the wall. Thorez turned around and felt a shiver run up his spine. The whole pharmacy was suddenly filled with monsters. They all came in through the entrance, and windows and some even broke through the walls.
Thorez grunted in pain as he tried to catch up to Samuel. He couldn't run fast or else he would reopen his wounds and bleed out. The monsters were right behind him. Some were catching up. Samuel who was a whole street ahead turned back. He ran towards Thorez. As he passed the Vashin and said "I'll distract them" Thorez was confused but he soon saw Samuel run towards the monsters while shouting.
"Hey! Follow me" Samuel then ran in another direction. Most of the monsters followed Samuel with only a few that hesitated about which of the two to follow. Thorez was stunned 'This human. Why would he do this? I'm his enemy. I tried to kill him. Why is he sacrificing himself?' a strange feeling that he couldn't explain rose in his chest.
Just as these thoughts were running through his head Thorez heard a low whistle. He turned towards a building a few meters away from him and saw something strange. Samuel was there gesturing for him to come. Thorez was at first confused. But the few monsters behind him didn't give him much time to think. He ran towards Samuel and as soon Thorez crossed the small gate Samuel closed it.

And also I just came from discovering that 3 of my previously published chapters were uploaded weirdly. Like they would be a ton of spaces between words were they shouldn't be and so many more errors😭😭. Luckily I found them while they were so few and was able to fix them.
