[Chapter 179: Speed Premiere]
On Wednesday afternoon, July 7th, Speed held its grand premiere at the Los Angeles Dome Theater.
Universal Pictures invited a dazzling array of movie stars to attend.
Legendary directors like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and James Cameron were present, along with promising new filmmakers such as Zack and Anne.
Top-tier stars graced the event as well, including Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Pierce Brosnan, Sharon Stone, Julia Roberts, and Meg Ryan.
Besides Naomi, who was promoting the film outside, Linton's star-studded entourage included Madonna, Sophie Marceau, Cristiana Reali, Winona Ryder, Shania Twain, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Connelly, and Heidi Klum.
Huge crowds of movie enthusiasts filled the venue, many of whom were loyal fans of Linton, some traveling from other cities just for the event.
...
"Linton, thanks to your keen insight, Jurassic Park is releasing just as you predicted. Especially overseas, it's doing exceptionally well. I really appreciate your support," Spielberg said, beaming as he saw Linton.
"Steven, it's not just me. It's mainly because your film is outstanding."
"Linton, I trust Speed will be just as thrilling. Can't wait for it," Spielberg added.
"Thank you."
...
"Linton, congratulations on yet another fantastic production," George Lucas remarked, always supportive of his younger colleague.
"Let's strengthen our collaboration moving forward," Linton responded warmly.
"Count me in. I won't miss it," George replied.
...
When chatting with Cameron, Linton smiled and asked, "I heard you met with film critics recently. Did they still try to sway your vision?"
"Don't get me started. They all fancy themselves as artists but are clueless and still want to tell me how to make films. It was frustrating," Cameron said bluntly.
"That's how it is with critics. All talk and no real understanding. Just stick to your instincts. For art films, you can listen to them, but commercial movies must serve the market and audience demands," Linton advised.
"Absolutely. I've always thought that way. Seems like we're on the same wavelength," Cameron said with a chuckle.
"Great minds think alike, haha," Linton laughed.
...
After greeting other celebrity attendees, the whole group entered the screening room. The theater lights gradually dimmed and the big screen brightened.
First, the Universal logo appeared, followed by the image of a whale breaching the ocean, alongside the words Linton Films and Linton Anderson Works.
"Bang..."
The movie opened with a heart-pounding explosion. An elevator spiraled uncontrollably downward, with the horrified faces of the passengers grabbing every viewer's attention instantly.
From the first blast, the deafening sound captivated everyone. No one could look away from the screen.
Finally, against a stunning seaside sunset, Jack and Annie embraced and shared a passionate kiss. After a harrowing fight for survival, their sincere and heartfelt kiss was incredibly moving for the audience.
...
Joe Morton, who portrayed Police Officer Mike, joked, "I thought Linton was a madman on set, a complete explosion addict."
"Hey now, why do I get labeled the explosion maniac?" Linton protested, unwilling to cede the title of 'Explosive Bay,' so he playfully pushed Michael Bay forward.
"Let me introduce you all to our assistant director Michael Bay. He has a special knack for organizing explosion scenes and large-scale sequences. He shot all the explosions in this film, and next, he'll be directing a movie under my company," Linton announced proudly.
This bold public endorsement from Linton stirred mixed feelings among the people present, who secretly grumbled at Michael's elevation.
...
The event concluded with a media interview session.
Sally from Hollywood Entertainment asked, "Linton, can you predict Speed's box office?"
All eyes turned to Linton, eager for his response.
"I forecast the North American box office will hit around $150 million," he answered candidly, expecting some skepticism.
He was surprised when boos erupted from the crowd -- it was clear many thought his estimate was too modest and underestimated the film's success.
