Chapter 104 - Crisis Of Trust

Luo Shu wasn't offended by the lack of trust.

It was human nature.

Loyalty and reliability had never been about competence.

Even Sima Yi, for all his brilliance, was never fully trusted by Cao Cao or Cao Pi—always treated as a potential traitor.

Similarly, Bearded Jack might value Luo Shu's usefulness, but when it came to trust, his old comrades came first. Handing the gun to the medic made sense.

Just as Luo Shu thought the matter settled, the medic spoke up:

"Boss, if it's ammo we're after, take Luo Shu too. More hands mean more bullets. I can hold down the fort alone."

Luo Shu's internal scream: You've got a grudge against me, don't you?!

Have you seen the hellscape outside?!

I'm a containment specialist, not a zombie-slaying commando!

But the real issue was this: Venturing out offered risk with no reward.

That's not how protagonists survive.

Seeing Bearded Jack consider it, Luo Shu quickly argued:

"Look at me—scrawny arms, zero combat training. With limited firepower, fewer people means less noise, fewer zombies attracted."

The logic worked.

A three-man fireteam (Jack + two operatives) was optimal. Adding Luo Shu would just slow them down.

With that settled, Jack's squad departed.

Luo Shu saw them off at the back door—a narrow alley with three wandering zombies.

When one operative raised his rifle, Luo Shu hissed: "No gunfire! You want to summon a horde?!"

The rookie froze. "Then what?!"

Bearded Jack answered with action.

Drawing his combat knife, he lunged, driving the blade through a zombie's eye socket.

The others followed suit, silently dispatching the stragglers.

"Hold the door. We'll be back," Jack said before vanishing into the alley.

Betrayal by Bigotry

Back inside, the medic aimed his GLOCK at Luo Shu.

"Stay away. I don't trust you yellow devils—especially not a death-row convict."

Ah. A white supremacist.

Arguing was pointless. Luo Shu sat far away, biding his time.

Minutes passed. Then—gunfire in the distance. Jack's team had engaged.

The medic radioed: "Boss, status?"

"Smooth sailing. Entering the gun store now."

Meanwhile, disaster struck inside.

The bitten woman, left untied (no ropes available), had fully turned.

Silently, she rose—and pounced on Luo Shu.

Caught off-guard, he barely blocked her gnashing teeth.

"SHOOT HER!" he yelled.

The medic fired.

And missed.

The bullet grazed Luo Shu's arm instead of the zombie's skull.

"Are you HELPING or—?!"

Worse—the pain made Luo Shu's grip falter.

The zombie lunged for his throat.

No more relying on the medic.

Luo Shu flipped open the Anomalous Project Encyclopedia and slammed "O" on the first page.

TELEPORT.

A successful blink—proving the medic had fired blindly.

(To be fair, non-combat personnel flinched when shooting "people" for the first time.)

But when the medic opened his eyes, he saw Luo Shu materialize behind the zombie.

Instant accusation.

"You're Chaos Insurgency!"

He'd connected the dots: The D-Class who teleported during SCP-173's breach.

Luo Shu raised his hands. "I'm NOT with Chaos! Aim at the ZOMBIE!"

No use.

Bigotry + "evidence" = unshakable hostility.

Even Rainbow Lollipop's persuasion failed—the medic refused to listen.

"I knew it! Yellow rats can't be trusted!" He steadied his aim.

Worse: He stopped blinking, locking eyes with Luo Shu—blocking another teleport.

And the zombie?

It stood up, ready to try again.
