Chapter 250 - Shame Spurs Valor

After leaving the Jing Camp, Luoshu returned directly to his rented apartment in Jinmen.

In the short few months since arriving in this world, he had encountered dozens of anomalies and had chosen to give up more than once.

But those instances of giving up were merely because he found things troublesome or lacked the conditions to record the items in the Anomalous Item Compendium.

For example, Anomalous Item-682, the "Hard-to-Destroy Reptile," contained in Area-14, and Anomalous Item-CN-502, the "Red Antelope," housed in Site-CN-02—both Keter-class anomalies.

But this time, Luoshu had fled in panic.

The feeling of failure was truly unbearable!

He realized his own weakness.

Weakness was the original sin!

To survive properly in this world of anomalous items, one needed sufficient strength—otherwise, they might lose their life in some XK-class end-of-the-world scenario, only to be replaced by a clone created by Anomalous Item-2000, living out their existence in their stead.

Since he had been defeated by Abel, he needed to let shame spur his valor and steadily improve himself!

Luoshu fixed his gaze on the Anomalous Item Compendium.

75 pages!

That was the current thickness of the compendium.

In other words, he was only 25 anomalies short of reaching the "Containment Specialist" milestone—100 contained anomalies—and leveling up to Tier 2.

Back when the "Anomalous Ally" milestone first upgraded to Tier 2, it granted Luoshu a memetic effect that locked in friendships, proving just how powerful Tier 2 milestone effects could be.

Now, he was eagerly anticipating the upgrade effect of the Containment Specialist milestone.

So why wait?

Tonight, he would take action—targeting Site-CN-06.

As for Barbie, that woman's strength was equally terrifying.

The way she had effortlessly shattered steel plates made Luoshu wary of underestimating her again.

During their first encounter, Barbie hadn't been intent on killing him, which was why Luoshu had easily restrained her using Jianjia Cangcang.

But now, things were different. Barbie had abandoned any thought of extracting secrets from Luoshu—she simply wanted him dead.

It was predictable: the next time they met, it would be a fight to the death!

Either Luoshu would kill Barbie instantly, or he'd be turned into pixelated fragments. There was no third option.

Of course, Luoshu had the advantage of stealth, allowing him to launch a surprise attack.

But Luoshu didn't actually want to kill Barbie.

So far, he had only killed two ordinary members of the "Achilles' Heel" team—"Cupid" and "Memories"—and the Foundation had already sent Abel to deal with him.

If he went further and killed Barbie, a Tier-4 heavyweight, the Foundation would undoubtedly escalate their response.

Truly, it was better to keep a low profile. The moment you got cocky, death came swiftly.

The dog that bites doesn't bark—real strength doesn't need to be flaunted for validation.

Barbie: You're the dog! Your whole family are dogs!

Abel: Author, where are you? Just you wait!

Author: I didn't say you were dogs… I was wrong, really wrong.

Luoshu: Heh, serves you right!

Speaking of strength, a new question surfaced in Luoshu's mind.

This world of anomalous items was a sci-fi setting, not a fantasy one. Every anomalous item's abilities had underlying scientific principles.

The Foundation's work wasn't just about Containment, Control, and Protection—it was also about research, unraveling mysteries.

Many items had already been fully deciphered, marked as Explained, and no longer classified as anomalies.

So, what was the scientific basis behind Abel's ability to resurrect?

Was it souls?

Or cloning technology?

Before confronting this anomaly directly, Luoshu hadn't given it much thought.

But tonight, as he fled the Jing Camp, he had witnessed Abel being blown up by the Pandora's Box commander, forcing him to seriously consider the question.

He had a feeling that if he could uncover the secrets behind Abel's and the "Hard-to-Destroy Reptile's" immortality, he'd be one step closer to the truth.

Why did he think that?

Because it was buried in his subconscious.

And the subconscious isn't formed out of nothing—it's made up of fragments of forgotten memories or experiences buried deep within the mind.

In other words, somewhere in Luoshu's deepest memories, the mystery of immortality was a crucial piece of the puzzle!

If Abel proved too difficult to handle, Luoshu considered wrapping up Site-CN-06 first, then returning to Area-14 to discuss the matter with Anomalous Item-682.

After spending some time reorganizing his plans for the coming days, dawn had already begun to break. Only then did Luoshu finally sleep.

He slept straight through until nightfall. After eating and making minimal preparations, he set off for Jinmen's Acorus Hospital.

Nightlife in Jinmen ended early—by 11 PM, the streets were already empty.

Since he had already used Unobservable during the early morning ambush on Barbie, Luoshu opted to travel using Reverse Distortion instead.

It wasn't until 11:30 PM, when he entered Acorus Hospital, that he switched back to Unobservable.

Entering the hospital morgue, he contacted the gatekeeper via phone. The mortuary drawers silently slid open, revealing the entrance to Site-CN-06.

Tonight, his goal was clear: sweep through all the Safe-class anomalies!

All data on Site-CN-06's Safe-class items had already been sent to his phone by the supercomputer "White Blood Cell," complete with details on their characteristics, containment procedures, locations, and precautions.

Site-CN-06 housed a total of 10 Safe-class anomalies, including those that had been neutralized or repurposed as Thaumiel-class items.

Most of these were either inanimate objects or viruses, making them quick to process.

If possible, Luoshu planned to handle all of them within an hour and a half.

Before setting out, he had already mapped the most efficient route based on the locations of these anomalies.

Now, he followed this optimized path straight to the Safe-class containment zone.

Within minutes, he arrived at the first unit.

This anomaly was Anomalous Item-CN-402—The Neural Extraction Cabinet, whose ability was exactly what its name suggested: it could strip a person's nervous system from their body or reintegrate it.

Honestly, the effort required to mess with someone's nervous system wasn't worth it—better to just snap their neck or enslave their mind directly.

The next anomaly was Anomalous Item-CN-931—The Reverse Chimera.

In Greek mythology, a chimera was a monster with a lion's head, goat's body, and serpent's tail—essentially, a stitched-together abomination.

The Reverse Chimera, simplified, was a technique for creating such abominations.

Neither of these abilities appealed to Luoshu, nor were they particularly useful—only a mad scientist would covet them.

Still, they served their purpose: filling out the Anomalous Item Compendium.

Now, the compendium had 77 pages—just 23 more until the Containment Specialist milestone reached Tier 2.
