Chapter 69 - Piggybacking

A coiled purple serpent entwined around a delicate black lotus that made those who viewed it both awed and afraid. Its sharp fangs could be seen bared as a small drop of liquid could be seen dripping from it.

This was the convoy from the Vyre family. Sitting in the luxurious carriage were two individuals.

One of them was a middle-aged woman whose face had a few wrinkles at the corners of her eyes and mouth.

Even though she was past her prime, it was not hard to imagine that she would have been a stunning woman in her youth.

Opposite her sat a young lady, her purple hair shining due to the rays of light from the sun shining through the open window of the carriage.

Her beautiful face was staring outside the window, her mind lost in various mundane and unimportant thoughts.

Suddenly, she turned her head to face the middle-aged woman.

"Elder Glenda, how much longer? She asked in a slightly weary tone. They had been travelling for days now, and she was already tired of the monotone view of the forest.

The middle-aged woman's eyes turned to face the young woman as she answered her question with a slight smile on her face.

"Young Miss, we'll arrive at Stonehold City before nightfall." She patiently replied.

The one in front of her was the young mistress of the Vyre family, the granddaughter of the current Patriarch, who was one of the strongest individuals on the continent, Belladonna Vyre.

A light breeze whizzed through the fog as the sun's rays of a new day shone on the mountain peaks. The fog churned as it was forcefully parted through.

The figure of a young man could be seen moving nimbly through the dense fog. His figure suddenly stopped, materializing to reveal who it was.

It was Adrian. With his recent breakthrough, he was even more confident in ensuring his survival in the Misty Mountains.

He looked on, his gaze landing on the vast and seemingly endless mountains surrounding him.

Since his goal was to enter the inner regions in order to search for the location on the map, he had to alter his course multiple times.

These detours inevitably made those who came in behind him able to catch up with him, as he stared at one such group in front of him.

Adrian was standing on a mountain peak, staring into the distance. In his vision was a team of six cultivators. However, even though their numbers were lower than the previous one he had met before, their strengths were incomparable.

While he couldn't sense their auras from this distance, from the beast they were currently fighting, he could infer that they were definitely strong, much stronger than him.

That was even more so for the individual fighting the beast. He watched in surprise as the young man faced the beast alone. From the current situation, it didn't seem like it was a dire situation.

In fact, it almost seemed like he was toying with it

He dodged the beast's strike with nimbleness and ease that made it seem effortless.

However, all this did was enrage the beast. It let out a loud roar before charging towards the young man with its mouth wide open, attempting to swallow him whole.

It was at this moment that the young man finally showed a hint of seriousness. A longsword materialized in his hand as his body disappeared from its current position.

His figure materialized right next to the stunned beast before he swung down his sword. A terrifying sword light manifested as huge amounts of qi materialized before dashing towards the beast.

The beast felt a shiver down its spine as it felt the threat of death so suddenly. It tried desperately to turn its body to avoid the terrifying sword light.

However, it was slow. Before it could even move, the sword light had already struck its neck, passing through with little difficulty.

Before it could even react to what had just happened, its head plopped down on the ground with its eyes wide open.

Pools of blood flowed out as the magical beast's body was still moving forward, unaware that its head was already separated from its body.

However, it could only take a couple of steps forward before its body finally plopped to the ground, lifeless.

The young man's face didn't change as he casually walked up to the mow dead beast and waved his hand over it.

Whoosh...

The body vanished as he stored it inside his storage ring. Adrian watched all of this from afar with a shocked expression on his face.

He knew they were strong, but it was only after witnessing this scene did he realize how much power they had.

And this was only one member fighting. What would have happened if all of them had fought?

A shiver ran down Adrian's spine as this thought arose in his mind. He definitely couldn't get involved with them.

Just as he was about to stealthily make his way in another direction, a strange thought crept up in his mind.

From the direction they were heading, it seemed that they were going deeper into the Misty Mountains. Though it wasn't certain, it was still a great probability.

If his conjecture was correct, then it was a great opportunity for him. He could 'piggyback' off these people and follow them into the deeper regions of the mountains.

His train of thought was cut short when he saw them moving deeper into the region. After a slight hesitation, he gritted his teeth and decided to follow them.

He didn't bother moving silently. He was already far away from them initially. Coupled with the fact that the people he was tailing were all in the Golden Core realm, their speed far outmatched his.

Even with his Astral Steps, he could at most match the speed of a Golden Core realm cultivator in the first level.

However, he was fairly confident that he wouldn't be left behind. Even if they were faster than him, they would still have to stop to fight the various magical beasts that they would encounter on the way, giving him time to catch up.
