Chapter 36 - The Path to Evolution

Inside a high-tech chamber nestled in the hidden core of Vita, Kaido lay submerged in a healing pod—an advanced medical marvel engineered by the genius mind of Dr. Vegapunk. Pulsing neon-blue lights shimmered over Kaido's massive form, sealing gashes, knitting torn muscle, and restoring vitality at a rate that defied belief. His slumber was peaceful, but the raw, overwhelming power within him radiated outward like waves from a dormant volcano.

Juno stood by the chamber, arms crossed and expression tense. His eyes studied Kaido's motionless figure, but his mind churned with questions. Beside him, Vegapunk leaned over a microscope, intently analyzing a blood sample. A flicker of astonishment crossed the scientist's face.

"Where did you find this monster?" Vegapunk muttered, voice tinged with reverence. "His bloodline factor... It's like a symphony of strength, rage, and regeneration. Unlike anything I've ever encountered."

"Found him in chains," Juno said with a half-smile. "Freed him. Now he's one of us."

Vegapunk turned to Juno, his brows knitting. "You have no idea what kind of opportunity this is. With Kaido's bloodline—an Oni—I might be able to push your body beyond Level 90. Perhaps even further."

Juno's eyes lit up with curiosity. "Beyond 90? I thought that was the upper limit. You're saying I can go past that?"

"Not by conventional means," Vegapunk replied, folding his arms. "But this isn't about convention. I've studied genetic evolution and cross-species integration for decades. With Kaido's Oni genes, we're looking at a chance to forge something entirely new. Your body... your potential... it could evolve into something never before seen."

Juno fell quiet, absorbing the gravity of the idea. "You mean I could transcend human limits? Become something... more?"

Vegapunk nodded solemnly. "Yes. But not just stronger. Better. Faster. Wiser. You won't just gain traits—you'll refine them. Your body will evolve, your mind will adapt. This is not an enhancement. It's ascension."

He stepped away from the microscope and gestured toward Kaido. "But one bloodline alone isn't enough. I need samples from other races. From the sea to the sky and everything in between—Giants, Skypieans, Minks, Fishmen, Mermaids. And if you can find them—Lunarians, Tontatta, Longarms, Longlegs, Buccaneers—the genetic mosaic will be complete."

Juno frowned. "You're not trying to turn me into some stitched-up patchwork creature, are you?"

Vegapunk laughed lightly. "No, Juno. This isn't a Frankenstein's monster situation. It's the opposite. We're crafting the perfect being. A synthesis of strength, agility, resilience, and adaptability. The best of every lineage... in one body. In you."

There was a brief pause before Juno spoke again. "Why me?"

"You're the only one who can handle it," Vegapunk replied. "The Visionary Device wasn't just a weapon—it's a key. Its adaptive feedback loop lets you stabilize and harmonize foreign traits without cellular collapse. Where others would deteriorate, you will evolve. Even if you absorb just a fraction of a Giant's might, a Mermaid's lungs, or a Lunarian's fire—you'll become something greater."

Vegapunk began listing the potential racial attributes, his voice quickening with excitement:

*Enhanced swimming ability and underwater breathing

*Superhuman strength

*Underwater combat mastery and Fish-Man Karate

-Longarms

*Extended arms for superior reach

*Powerful strikes from long-range

-Longlegs

*Exceptional speed, balance, and acrobatics

*High jumping ability

-Skypieans

*Adaptation to high-altitude environments

*Ability to glide using wings

Juno felt a strange heat rise in his chest—a mingling of awe and purpose. "This could reshape the world. Not just for me, but for what comes after."

Vegapunk smiled. "With you, we're not building a super-soldier. We're redefining what it means to be alive."

Juno looked toward Kaido again, the image of the slumbering beast anchoring his thoughts. "Then I'll do it. I'll travel. I'll collect the legacy of every race—not for conquest, but to carry them forward into something new. Into me."

For a moment, neither spoke. The silence hung with the weight of possibility.

"I never told you this," Vegapunk said at last, his voice softer than usual, "but you were never just a test subject to me."

Juno turned. "What do you mean?"

"You were my son, long before I called you that. I didn't build the Device for war—I made it because I believed in you. The fire in your spirit, the hunger for more. The evolution... it was always yours to claim."

Juno was quiet for a moment, then smiled. "Thanks, Dad. That's the first time you've said it so clearly."

Vegapunk scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "Don't make me get sentimental. I'm still a scientist."

Juno chuckled, then looked serious again. "What if some bloodlines fight back? Some legacies weren't meant to be shared."

Vegapunk's eyes narrowed. "Then you'll overcome them. You've always found a way. This time won't be any different."

Juno turned toward the chamber door. His steps were calm, yet every fiber of him buzzed with anticipation.

"I'll gather them all," he said, voice steady. "Every race. Every trait. I'll shape something greater. A new path. Not for domination... but for evolution."

Vegapunk raised a tablet and began sketching new formulas, inspired by his son's conviction. "Then let's call it what it is. Project Genesis. A new beginning for the world."

Juno opened the door, golden light spilling into the chamber. "Time to start rewriting the story of what we are."

Behind him, the pod containing Kaido pulsed softly, like the steady beat of a second heart. And next to it, a father watched his creation stride into the unknown—not as a weapon, not as a tool, but as the future made flesh.
