Chapter 12 - Getting On His Nerves

Moon's Pov

Not too far away, I heard a voice ask and my blood boiled in unimaginable ways.

"Yes, of course," she replied, her voice full of pride that I was so going to wipe off. "If I already have the backing of the most powerful person in LA, then, is the role not already guaranteed?"

From the periphery, I see the girl with Clarissa lean forward before she asks, "When you said the most powerful person…" her voice drops even lower, "so you mean Mr William, the CEO of Helm's group?"

Clarrissa's shoulders squared in even more pride, her lips curving into a coy smile. "Of course, who else?"

"But… but I heard he's married. It was all in the news."

Her facade instantly vanished and was replaced with irritation. "Zelda, what does it matter? Do you still want to remain my friend?

It was just false rumors and he doesn't even want her, or why will he be here for my audition? It's because he wants to make sure I secure the role." Clarissa almost yelled.

I smirked. If he really loves her like she claimed, then why is she being all aggressive?

Zelda, who had once stood with her shoulders back held her, now looked smaller—hee posture hunched, her gaze flickering nervously.

After being chastised by Clarissa, she quickly nodded, her head framed by long, chestnut hair bubbling up and down in agreement.

"Yes, you're right. It might be rumors, or he wouldn't be here.

Clarissa, put in a word of goodness when you finally become the lead role okay? Maybe with your influence, I might land the second female lead in that drama."

Clarissa felt like she was all over the moon from the praises showered on her. "Oh course Zelda. You're my friend and would definitely put in a good word to William for you."

I shook my head. "No, he will not," I clenched out, determined. "Not when I'm alive."

My eyes adopted a fat away look, thinking back to my life's and Moon's. She had certainly died in that pool and that was why I was able to reincarnate into her body.

I won't let her suffer nor will I allow Clarissa to trample over…

"Wait," Zelda said, looking at her side and locking eyes with me for a second. "Is that not the lady that stood beside Master Alexander, the CEO of Helm's group during that auction?"

Fuck! I've been caught! I quickly spun around, disappearing into the corner where I can still hear them. Right now, I don't have the luxury of time to deal with Clarissa.

The perfect opportunity will present itself into my palm.

Clarrissa's head quickly snapped to her side, eyes searching the crowd. "Nah… you must be mistaken. That fool doesn't leave the house. Once a housewife, always a housewife." She sneered, when she didn't see her.

And moreover, she was only opportuned to be in that auction because the Matriarch, William's grandmother, forced William to take her along." she dramatically rolled her eyes.

"Alright then." I heard her say.

Bloody fools. I finally walked away. The moment I think I'm free, relief barely had time to settle before it's ripped away.

A gasp catches in my throat as rough hands sized me, yanking me back with a mixture of care and brute.

My spine collides with the wall, a sharp impact that knocks all the breaths from my lungs.

My pulse explodes, hammering against my ribs like a frantic beast trying to escape its cage.

My world tilts. Panic claws at my chest. I struggle, but the grip on me tightens, unyielding and almost crushing.

The mix of masculine and overbearing scent invades my senses, and instead of danger, my stomach flutters.

"What the fuck are you doing here, huh?" Came a deep baritone voice that makes my legs go weak.

The moment that scent wafted through my nostrils, I knew it was him… William!

"You couldn't wait for my return? Is that why you're so eager to come here?" Underneath that baritone voice is a mocking undertone that immediately dissolves the butterflies.

I scoffed, my eyes glazing over. "Wait for your return, you say?" I drew out, sarcasm dripping in my words. "And where did you get that idea about me awaiting your return?"

"Then why are you here? If not because you want to cling on to me?"

"You say I want to cling on to you," I counter sternly, eyes bearing into him in a challenging manner, "then why are you holding on to my arm like I'm running away?"

My eyes slowly leave his face to look at his hand that still gripped mine..

He noticed it, and as if my skin burned him, he drew it out, forcefully stuffing it into his pants pockets.

Poor hands!

"You should leave," he commands, arrogance dripping in his every posture. "Go back home and wait for me."

"I didn't come here for you," I stubbornly deadpans, momentarily forgetting the reason I'm here.

"Then why are you here?"

"Why I'm here is none of your concern." I grit out, remembering how Clarrissa has been bragging since I arrived.

He was here for Clarissa, so why was he even talking to me?

"Moon!" He grits out, but I continue to ignore him, deriving a twisted sense of satisfaction from getting on his nerves. "Don't get on my—"

"On your what? Hmm?" I cut him off slowly. He wasn't the only one with blood running in his veins. Mine does too.

"If you want me out of this venue, then you'll have to take me yourself. And moreover, I didn't come here with, or for you. And I won't just up and leave because you command me to."

I start walking away, but in a blink, his hand is out of the pocket and dragging me back.

For the second time, my back was slammed against the wall and that was all it took for my patience to snap!

"Alexander William!" I grit out, my eyes glowering glaciers at him, but he remained unfazed. "Are you a beast?!"

He dangerously leans closer, exuding a terrifying aura, but I hold my ground. "Isn't that what you want? Hmm? To see the best in me? Since you so desperately want to see it, why are you—"

"Ah! There you are!"

A man's deep voice cuts him off.

William's head turns slightly, his grip on me loosening just a little, but his fingers still press against my skin, holding me in place.

His iced blue eyes darken, irritation flickering across his face before cold flakes settled in.

He doesn't turn right away. I try to see who the voice belongs to, but the weight of his imposing presence keeps me trapped between him and the wall, making it impossible to seem

His hold is still firm, like he's transferring his aggression and daring the man to interrupt him again.

The man takes a cautious step forward, his confidence carefully measured. He now stands before us, and when I finally see him, my eyes widens, and my heart rate instantly picks up!

"I've been caught!"
