Eva
Well, dinner went well. Katie so far is more curious than freaked. That makes me happy. I was afraid that she would think that I was a monster and would hurt her. Or that she would run away because of what the guys are. I am nervous about leaving her for a few days and the guys can tell. Vincent says, "Stop worrying."
If only it were that simple, "Can't help it."
"She's like that, telling her to stop makes it worse," Katie says. Sam chuckles.
Vincent glares at him, "Don't start wolf!"
Katie tells Vincent, "He has it right though. You either don't mention it or you distract her."
I look at her, "You stop!"
She grins, "What? Who else knows you better?"
"Still, don't help them," I say.
"Why not?" she asks.
I tell her, "They can figure it out just like I have to."
"Sure. You go enjoy your summer camp, while I teach these boys everything about you," she says.
"Don't you dare," I threaten.
She smirks, "Are you going to stop me?"
She knows that I won't, "Ugh, you drive me crazy."
She says, "You already were crazy when I met you."
"Was not!"
"You were the hyper-intelligent, beautifully creepy chick that no one talked to. But you didn't scare me. I'm fearless," she grins.
So I say, "Yeah unless there isn't a designer label insight, and then you freak out or a spider is involved."
She shrugs, "Hey most women would."
I laugh, "Nope."
"You're not most," she says.
I grin, "I'm perfectly okay with that."
Eric says, "I feel for you Vincent."
He says, "Not so fast, you're on babysitting duty too."
"Sorry I have duties to attend to," Eric says.
I point my finger at him, "Not so fast mister! You're aiding Vincent with anything Katie needs while I'm gone!"
He raises his eyebrow, "And why would I do that?"
I make a bucket of water appear over his head, "Look up, oh dear prince."
He sighs, "Come on."
"Afraid to even the score, I see," I say.
Vincent chuckles, "This is great!"
"You're just happy it's not you," I say to Vincent.
He smiles, "Yes I am, but it's still funny."
"So dear prince, are you going to assist?" I ask Eric.
He relents. So I make the bucket return to the kitchen sink.
"Eva!" he says.
I shrug, "Hey, you just wish you could."
"Just don't get cocky," he says.
I reply, "I'm safe here so I can."
"You are but don't dish what you can't take," Vincent tells me.
"Guys, I had a shit childhood so I can take a lot," I say.
Katie adds, "She's an orphan so imagine how kids treated her when they found out."
"I don't need pity, I just developed a thick skin," I state.
Eric says, "Well I am going to head home. Vincent just let me know if I'm needed. Eva safe travels. Avoid trouble please and be a good ambassador, if possible."
I replied, "Not my first rodeo."
"Well alright then," he says.
I laugh, "I'm not a delicate flower that will wither under the tiniest bit of scrutiny. I've been on my own virtually my whole life. I can handle faking the niceties to keep the peace."
Eric tells me, "We will deal with Victor when you return." I nod. Eric gets up and gives me a hug and a gentle kiss, "Good evening everyone, I'll see you all around."
Katie waves, "Bye prince."
"I have a feeling I'll be seeing you tomorrow," Vincent says.
I tell Vincent, "Surely you could handle her for a day before calling for backup."
"See my girl believes in me," Katie says.
Vincent sighs, "This is my hell."
I tease him, "Awe, poor baby. It could be worse."
"How so?" he asks.
I say, "Fae like Sookie Stackhouse in True Blood could exist and Katie would be one."
"So fucking glad they don't in this realm anymore," he states.
I shake my head at him, "You are such the Eeyore of this group."
"So true," Katie agrees. Vincent declares, "I'm not a damn storybook character!"
Eric says, "And this is my cue to exit."
We all tell him goodbye. He shows himself out as we continue to bicker.
I goad Vincent, "You know you're gonna miss me Eeyore."
"Stop calling me that!" he demands.
Sam laughs, "It's rather funny."
"Why? you'd be Tigger," Katie says.
He shrugs, "I'm not that perky but fine."
"See Sam just accepts it," Katie states.
Vincent says bluntly, "Well I'm not him."
"But you are moody like that," Katie says.
Vincent pleads to Sam, "Please take her with you."
Sam says, "Nope, not yet. I need to stop by my apartment and get it in order before we leave tomorrow. It will be a long drive. I'll be around 8."
"Man that's way too early, you know she doesn't go to sleep till 5 am or so," Vincent tells him.
I say, "It's fine I'm used to little sleep."
He tells Vincent, "During the drive, she can stretch out and sleep if she needs."
"I'll be fine Vincent. I know how to reach both you and Eric," I reassure him.
Sam wolfishly grins, "Everything will be fine."
I shake my head, "I'm so making that jar."
"Oh, I'll do it for you," Katie insists.
"Go for it," I urged.
Vincent begs, "No please no."
I look at him as if he's a child, "Awe, why are you worried?"
"There will be no pink sparkles in my house," he says.
I smirk, "Well, good luck with that. And if you try to compel her I'll know!"
He glares, "Maybe not, the link might not go that far."
Sam shakes his head as he chuckles, "She'll know. I can't be completely sure, but something tells me that she'll know."
Katie says to Vincent, "Chill it's just a punishment jar geez."
Sam turns to me, "Care to walk me out, Eva?" I nod.
Vincent teases, "Don't set anything on fire, please."
So I let him have it, "You stop. It's not like I meant to. See how you like getting all of these abilities and urges thrust into your life, and then have the balls to tell me to control it." Sam held in a snicker as we walked towards the exit, but I could tell that he enjoyed me saying that to Vincent. I walk him out to his large black SUV.
He says, "I have been around Eric and Vincent for a bit trying to adhere to the neutrality treaty. I have rarely seen them joke around. Katie will be fine with them. She is yours and they know that. They will respect your love for her and you. Try and rest if you can. There will be a lot to do both for the pack and fun."
I'm still worried, "They aren't going to hate me because I'm a part vampire or whatever I am?"
He takes my hands, "Eva, you're you. There's a wolf in you too just the same as there is a vampire and witch and whatever else. You're my mate. I'm the Regional Alpha. You'll be fine." He can sense my unease, "It's not a big deal."
I look into his blue eyes, "It kind of is. Eric is the local prince, you're the Regional Alpha, and Vincent walked away from being a prince in Europe. So yeah, it's a big deal."
"I didn't know that part about Vincent. He's very secretive about his past," he says.
I tell him, "He doesn't talk much about it. It's a sore spot for him."
He chuckles, "Could've fooled me."
I roll my eyes, "Whatever, it's still a big deal. You all are in positions of power or could be in Vincent's case, while I'm nothing." He kisses my forehead before looking into my eyes, "Seriously though, so what if you have influential and powerful mates. You're just as much. A fated mate is our equal, not inferior or a subordinate." he continues, "You are something. You are something truly magnificent. It will be fine." He pulls me into a kiss. There's no point in me resisting or second-guessing it. It's sincere, commanding, and passionate. It's him in a kiss. Time stands still. All that exists is us and this moment. As we pull away breathless, he says, "I'll see you in the morning."
I smile, "Yeah you will. Sleep well."
He kisses my cheek before he gets in, "You too." I wave as he drives away. I go back inside.
Katie says, "I did the dishes." She's so cute when she tries to be domestic even if she starts fires and blows stuff up. I tell her thank you.
"So good job containing yourself, nothing caught fire," Vincent says.
I glare at him, "You better not have meant it sarcastically."
He smiles at me, "No, you did well. I didn't know he was their Alpha and Regional though. I thought Adele still was Falls Alpha… I just thought he was the Beta as he is always laid back and quiet. Alphas are more…"
"Domineering assholes," I say.
He nods, "Pretty much."
"Really?" Katie asks. I nod. "Well damn, you're a vampire and werewolf royalty girl," she says.
I roll my eyes, "Whatever."
Vincent smirks and snickers at me. "It's a big deal," she says.
I responded, "Titles don't mean anything."
Vincent adds, "I'm with Eva on this."
She turns and looks at him, "Why, are you some kind of rogue King or something?" I smirk because now he's in the spotlight that he hates as much as I do. Turnabout is fair play! She squeals, "Oh, I'm right! You got quiet!"
Vincent glares at me, "Just don't, Eva."
I give him puppy dog eyes, "Awe." Katie yells, "Wow, just wow! This is crazy, it is." I nod. "Well I probably won't see you before you go," she says.
I say, "Yeah, I don't plan on being up when you get ready for work."
"Well, be safe and have fun. Know that I love you and I'll get ahold of you through Vincent, or Eric if I have locked Vincent up somewhere. Other than that, text me," she tells me.
I laugh, "Okay, I will. I love ya too." We hug and we all say our goodnights. She heads off to bed. Why are all of these guys so high-ranking? They say I must be their equal, but can I be? That would be so much power if all three are equal. No one needs that much power. Not even me!
