"Little brat, there's an enemy!" Kurama adjusted his black glasses and said. Kurama thought the glasses looked cool, so he bought a pair himself.
"Forty-five degrees to the left!" Kurama didn't intend to fight, merely pointing out the enemy's location. Besides, this was Naruto, not Menma Uzumaki. Naruto couldn't write novels—if it were Menma, Kurama would've attacked immediately.
A few years ago, Kurama suggested to the other Kurama: "How about we switch hosts?"
The other Kurama flatly refused. "Am I stupid? (⊙_⊙)?
Mine is the boss. Yours is the younger brother."
When Naruto heard Kurama's words, he immediately pulled out a kunai and flicked his wrist. The kunai flew at a 45-degree angle to the left. At the same time, he warned his teammates: "Be careful, there's an enemy!" Naruto trusted Kurama 100%—after all, that was his brother talking.
"Enemy?" Kakashi's eyes followed Naruto's kunai.
Hit?
Naruto hurried over, only to find he'd stabbed… a little rabbit.
"Kurama, you lied to me!" Naruto blurted.
Kurama: "Idiot."
"Kurama, take it back! Kurama, take it back!"
"Stupid, are you hungry?" Sasuke walked over with his hands in his pockets, then pulled out some snacks from his backpack and handed them to Naruto.
"I'm hungry too, Sasuke!" Sakura pouted and snatched the snacks from Sasuke. "Naruto, what are you going to eat? Obviously Sasuke's snacks are for me!"
Sasuke: "..."
Kakashi examined the rabbit Naruto had stabbed and fell into thought.
Was that… a snow rabbit? But the fur color... White fur should only appear in winter when there's very little sunlight. That must mean this was a snow rabbit kept indoors, never exposed to the sun—used as a decoy.
Then there's only one answer:
An enemy is near.
"Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura—stay alert!" Kakashi shouted. The three immediately jumped in front of Mr. Tazuna, forming a defensive line.
At that moment, a massive sword came flying through the air. Kakashi leapt up, intercepted it, and it embedded itself into a tree. A man landed, standing atop the blade.
"Who's that?" Naruto looked at the man with short black hair, a forehead protector slanted to the left, and bandages covering the lower half of his face and neck.
Kakashi quickly answered: "Isn't that the rogue ninja of Kirigakure—Momochi Zabuza?"
"What's a rogue ninja?" Naruto asked curiously.
"Idiot," Sasuke rolled his eyes. "A rogue ninja is someone who committed crimes in their own village and defected. Didn't you go to class?"
"Ohhh, I get it now," Naruto nodded.
Sakura: "..." The enemy is right there and you're chatting? Naruto is going to get Sasuke killed. Ugh, annoying Naruto. Stay away from Sasuke!
She couldn't help glaring at Naruto.
Just then, Kakashi lifted his forehead protector, revealing the Sharingan underneath.
Seeing this, Sasuke activated his own Sharingan and warned, "Naruto, be serious. This enemy is different from the others."
"Got it!" Naruto responded quickly, forming hand signs and summoning several shadow clones to guard Mr. Tazuna.
Zabuza, standing on his blade, spoke: "So you're Kakashi of the Sharingan. Hand the old man over."
Not waiting for a response, Zabuza leapt into the lake behind him, making hand signs with his left hand while holding his massive blade.
Kakashi gripped his kunai, bracing himself and locking his eyes on Zabuza, pouring chakra into his limbs.
"Ninjutsu—Hidden Mist Technique!"
Zabuza vanished into the mist.
Seeing this, Kakashi warned his students, "Be careful. Zabuza was known for his Silent Killing technique back when he was in Kirigakure's Anbu. If you hear nothing… that means you're already dead."
His words made Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura gulp nervously. They were still "newbies" after all.
The fog thickened, visibility worsening—bad news for defenders.
What do I do? Naruto thought. His brother always said: when faced with a problem, stay calm and think it through.
Fog? Then… wind!
"Wind Release: Air Bullet!" Naruto expelled a concentrated wind bullet from his mouth. It shot off to the right, clearing a large portion of the mist and improving visibility!
"Nice job, Naruto." Sasuke smirked. With the mist gone, his Sharingan locked on once again.
Naruto raised his eyebrows. Brother was right—learning is actually useful!
When there's fog, the air pressure is low. Fog is formed by water vapor. Wind breaks the vapor into smaller particles and disperses them. He read that in a book his brother wrote. He didn't fully understand it, but he remembered it.
"Well done, Naruto!" Kakashi praised. He formed a hand sign and released a burst of chakra, dispelling the rest of the fog completely.
Seeing the tide turn, Zabuza tried to launch a surprise attack.
"It's over!" Suddenly, he appeared behind the trio, raising his sword to slash Mr. Tazuna!
Kakashi and Sasuke's Sharingan caught the movement. Just as Sasuke was about to shout, Kakashi moved, stabbing his kunai into Zabuza's stomach—only for water to gush out.
A water clone?
Sasuke's eyes widened. He scanned the area, trying to locate the real Zabuza.
"Sensei, behind you!" Naruto yelled.
But Sasuke was faster.
"Fire Release: Fireball Jutsu!" he shouted, spewing a massive fireball at Zabuza.
Zabuza ignored the fire, swung his blade, and cut Kakashi in half—instantly.
"Kakashi-sensei!!"
"Kakashi-sensei…"
Wait—Kakashi turned into water.
A water clone again?
Had Sasuke's Fire Release already taken out the real Zabuza? No—another puddle. Another clone.
"Die, brat!" This time, Zabuza charged not at Kakashi, but at Sasuke.
"Sasuke!" Naruto screamed.
Sasuke's pupils shrank. It was the first time he truly felt how close death could be.
"Lightning Release: Chidori!" Kakashi arrived at the last moment, piercing Zabuza from behind with a crackling bolt of lightning.
"Arghhhh!"
Zabuza coughed up blood and fell.
