Chapter 42 - Operation Nemesis

Ye Qingyi had never driven a tracked vehicle before, so she approached it with great caution. Tang Ze spoke casually: "Just drive."

With that reassurance, Ye Qingyi pressed down on the accelerator, generating significant force against their backs. However, the tracked vehicle remained considerably slower than expected.

As they exited the underground garage, raindrops pelted the roof, and the windshield wipers automatically activated. To say she wasn't nervous would be a lie.

Holding Sun Ting close, Tang Ze calmly instructed, "Head to Yinghua Road, Dehai Community first."

"Got it," Ye Qingyi replied.

The appearance of the vehicle caught the attention of many bystanders. People peered out from their windows, their expressions filled with both astonishment and envy.

And no wonder—they had every reason to be envious. Inside the car were some of the most stunning women, their presence exuding an aura of elegance and allure.

Tang Ze's gaze swept across the streets. Burnt-out vehicles littered the road, and scattered corpses lay everywhere—especially in front of supermarkets and shopping malls, where the bodies were more concentrated.

Yet the streets themselves felt eerily quiet, almost devoid of life. After all, the incident had occurred in the early hours of the morning when most people were still at home.

Ye Qingyi didn't bother avoiding the corpses, simply driving over them without hesitation. Tang Ze sighed, remarking, "Have you never driven before? It's too bumpy. How are you even a driver?"

"Sorry," Ye Qingyi muttered. "I just couldn't be bothered to dodge the bodies."

"Look over there! A lot of people died near the police station!" An Bai pointed toward the distance, shouting. Indeed, numerous bodies lay sprawled at the entrance.

Sun Ting speculated, "Probably several groups tried to raid the police station for weapons and ended up killing each other."

"Let's check it out," Tang Ze said indifferently.

Ye Qingyi maneuvered the vehicle into the police station parking lot and brought it to a stop.

"You three go ahead. I'll stay here with the car," Tang Ze announced. His words sent a shiver through the hearts of the three women. This was a police station, after all—if someone armed was hiding inside, they'd be in grave danger.

But none of them dared defy Tang Ze's orders. They donned their protective suits, grabbed their P9 submachine guns, opened the doors, and stepped out.

This wasn't a drill anymore—it was real combat. Tang Ze noticed that while Sun Ting and Ye Qingyi appeared visibly tense, An Bai seemed oddly exhilarated.

Without exchanging a word, the three women relied solely on hand signals as they entered the lobby.

The lights in the lobby were still on, illuminating several bodies lying motionless on the floor. One of them wore a police uniform—likely the officer on duty.

An Bai and Ye Qingyi kept watch while Sun Ting examined the wounds on the bodies, determining whether they were caused by bullets or blades.

All the wounds turned out to be blade-inflicted; there were no signs of gunshot injuries. The three women proceeded deeper into the building.

As they passed through the corridor, Ye Qingyi noticed that the number of bodies ahead had increased significantly. She raised her fist, signaling for heightened caution, and the tension in the air thickened instantly.

Ye Qingyi cautiously approached the bodies and was shocked to discover gunshot wounds among them. Her expression changed immediately.

Following the trail of bodies, they eventually reached the armory. The door stood wide open, and the safes inside had been emptied. It was clear that the firearms had been taken.

The three women exchanged glances, nodded silently, and continued searching the rooms.

Along the way, they encountered at least fifty or sixty bodies—all killed by gunfire. Bullet holes riddled the walls, and shattered glass littered the floor. Clearly, a fierce gunfight had taken place here.

Back in the vehicle, Tang Ze closed his eyes and waited patiently. He couldn't always protect them; they needed to grow stronger quickly if they hoped to survive.

Half an hour later, Tang Ze watched as the three women emerged, their courage evidently bolstered by the experience.

They walked to the carport, pressed the disinfection button on their wristbands, and watched as the rainwater on their protective suits slowly evaporated. Only then did they climb back into the car.

"How did it go?" Tang Ze asked.

Sun Ting responded gravely, "No one's inside, but there was definitely a gunfight. Many people died in there. No firearms were found—they must have been taken."

"Even if they were taken, there probably aren't many bullets left," Ye Qingyi added, observing the advanced state of decomposition of the bodies. They had likely been dead for at least ten days to two weeks.

"It doesn't matter. Let's move on," Tang Ze said dismissively. What could a regular police station possibly offer? Standard pistols, perhaps shotguns at best. Rifles would only be found at the city bureau.

Sun Ting licked her dry lips and remarked, "Those who dared storm the police station for weapons must be desperate individuals. The elites from high-end communities wouldn't take such risks. It's likely organized by some underworld figure."

"So you're saying these people are probably hiding in places like clubs, KTVs, saunas, or bars," Ye Qingyi murmured thoughtfully.

An Bai chimed in, "At that hour, only those entertainment venues would still be open."

Tang Ze suddenly chuckled, drawing the attention of the three women. They were discussing serious matters—what was he laughing about?

Though they thought it, none dared voice their thoughts aloud.

"Truly, the three of you are as clever as strategists," Tang Ze said with a grin, giving them a thumbs-up. "You've managed to deduce the likely culprits."

Pleased with Tang Ze's praise, the three women felt a surge of pride. Who did he think they were? They were all highly educated, and Ye Qingyi was even a top graduate from one of China's most prestigious universities.

Sun Ting's speculation stemmed from her earlier examination of the bodies. Most bore tattoos, characteristic of young gang members.

"I need to focus on my own business now," Tang Ze said, unwilling to waste any more time here.

Ye Qingyi started the vehicle again and drove toward their destination.

Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the target community and parked under the eaves of a narrow alley.

"Wait here. I'll be back soon," Tang Ze instructed, pulling on his protective suit before stepping out of the alley.

The three women sat quietly in the car. An Bai fiddled with her submachine gun, seemingly fascinated by the weapon.

Ye Qingyi gripped the steering wheel tightly, lost in thought.

Sun Ting, however, issued a warning: "If you dare drive off, we're all dead."

Ye Qingyi frowned deeply but eventually relaxed. "I won't drive off."

"You should find a chance to bring up your niece's situation. Maybe he'll help."

Ye Qingyi nodded. "Thanks."

Meanwhile, Tang Ze had already entered the community. Unlike his own neighborhood, there weren't many bodies here. It seemed the residents of this high-end community were more civilized and harmonious.

Following the address, Tang Ze found the right place and knocked on the door.

Footsteps echoed from inside, and the door opened to reveal a man with chapped lips, looking haggard and thin.

If Tang Ze remembered correctly, this was the manager of the hotpot restaurant where he used to work. The man had been a bully, always finding excuses to dock his pay, forcing him to work overtime without compensation. Tang Ze had even overheard that the manager had pocketed the money deducted from his salary.

Furious, Tang Ze had left without collecting his last two weeks' pay. He was certain the manager had taken that money too.

"Tang Ze? You actually came? Great, did you bring any food?" the man immediately looked at Tang Ze's hands, but they were empty.

"Why didn't you bring any food? I told you to bring food!" The manager's demeanor instantly reverted to his old, domineering self.

Looking at the manager's familiar, unpleasant face, Tang Ze smiled sincerely—and pulled out a pistol.

BANG!

The manager collapsed to the ground, and Tang Ze, hands in his pockets, stepped into the elevator and departed.
