Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Midnight Rescue

The rogue's words hung in the air, offering Evelyn a glimmer of hope in her darkest hour. "You know the truth about Celeste?" she repeated, her voice barely a whisper. "What do you mean?"

The rogue stepped closer, his face still shrouded in shadow. "We have watched Celeste for a long time, Evelyn. We know her ambition, her lies, and the dark magic she uses to get what she wants."

Evelyn's heart leaped with hope. "Then you know I'm innocent?"

"We do," the rogue confirmed. "But knowing is not enough. Celeste has already poisoned Victor's mind and turned the pack against you. You are in danger, Evelyn. Celeste will not rest until you are silenced forever."

Fear pulsed through Evelyn. She knew Celeste was ruthless, but she hadn't realized the extent of her treachery. "What should I do?" she pleaded. "How can I prove my innocence?"

The rogue paused, his eyes gleaming with an unsettling light. "Proving your innocence will take time, Evelyn. But first, you must escape. Celeste will be searching for you, and she will not hesitate to use force."

"Escape?" Evelyn asked, her voice trembling. "But where can I go? I have nowhere to run."

"You are not alone, Evelyn," a new voice said, cutting through the darkness.

Evelyn spun around, her eyes widening in surprise. Emerging from the trees was Lucien, her beloved brother and Alpha of a neighboring pack.

"Lucien!" she cried, relief washing over her. "What are you doing here?"

Lucien rushed to her side, embracing her tightly. "I heard what happened, Evelyn," he said, his voice filled with concern. "I know you would never betray Victor or the pack. I came as soon as I could."

Evelyn clung to her brother, tears streaming down her face. "Thank you, Lucien," she sobbed. "I don't know what I would have done without you."

Lucien pulled back, his expression serious. "There's no time for tears, Evelyn. Celeste is already hunting for you. We have to get you out of here, now."

"But where can I go?" Evelyn asked again, her voice filled with despair.

"I have a safe place for you, Evelyn," Lucien said, his eyes filled with determination. "A hidden cabin in the mountains, far from Celeste's reach. You can stay there until we can clear your name and expose Celeste's lies."

Evelyn hesitated. She didn't want to run away, but she knew that Lucien was right. Staying in the Moonfire Pack would be suicide. Celeste would stop at nothing to destroy her.

"Okay, Lucien," she said, her voice firm. "Let's go."

Lucien turned to the rogue, his expression wary. "Thank you for protecting my sister," he said, his voice cautious. "I owe you a debt."

The rogue nodded, his eyes glinting in the darkness. "We have our own reasons for helping Evelyn," he said cryptically. "Just know that we will be watching."

Lucien didn't press further. He knew that the rogues were not to be trusted, but he was grateful for their assistance. He took Evelyn's hand, and together they disappeared into the forest, leaving the rogues behind.

As they ran through the trees, Evelyn couldn't shake the feeling that they were being followed. She kept looking over her shoulder, her heart pounding with fear.

"Are you sure we're safe, Lucien?" she asked, her voice trembling.

"We're as safe as we can be, Evelyn," Lucien assured her. "But we need to keep moving. Celeste's hounds will be on our trail soon."

They ran for what seemed like hours, their lungs burning and their muscles aching. Finally, they reached the edge of the Moonfire Pack territory and crossed into Lucien's lands.

Lucien led Evelyn to a hidden path that wound through the mountains. The path was narrow and treacherous, but Lucien knew it well. He had used it many times to escape from danger.

As they climbed higher and higher, the air grew colder and the trees grew sparser. Finally, they reached a small, secluded cabin nestled in a clearing.

"This is it, Evelyn," Lucien said, his voice filled with relief. "You'll be safe here."

Evelyn looked at the cabin, her heart filled with gratitude. It was small and rustic, but it was a sanctuary. A place where she could hide from Celeste and plan her next move.

Lucien pushed open the door, and Evelyn stepped inside. The cabin was simple but cozy, with a fireplace, a bed, and a small table. Lucien had stocked it with food and supplies, ensuring that Evelyn would be comfortable.

"I'll stay with you for a few days, Evelyn," Lucien said, "to make sure you're settled in. Then I have to go back to my pack. I can't leave them unprotected for too long."

Evelyn nodded, understanding. She knew that Lucien had responsibilities to his own pack.

"Thank you, Lucien," she said, her voice sincere. "You're the best brother a girl could ask for."

Lucien smiled, pulling her into another hug. "I'll do anything for you, Evelyn. You know that."

For the next few days, Evelyn and Lucien spent their time talking, planning, and reminiscing about their childhood. Evelyn told Lucien everything that had happened, from Celeste's lies to Victor's betrayal.

Lucien listened patiently, his anger growing with each word. He couldn't believe that Celeste would stoop so low, or that Victor would be so easily manipulated.

"Don't worry, Evelyn," Lucien vowed. "I will help you clear your name. I will gather evidence of Celeste's treachery, and I will expose her to the entire werewolf world."

Evelyn smiled, feeling a surge of hope. With Lucien by her side, she knew that anything was possible.

On the third day, Lucien prepared to leave. He hugged Evelyn tightly, promising to visit her as soon as he could.

"Be careful, Lucien," Evelyn said, her voice filled with concern. "Celeste is dangerous. Don't underestimate her."

"I won't," Lucien promised. "I'll be back soon, Evelyn. And when I do, we'll bring Celeste to justice."

Lucien turned and disappeared into the forest, leaving Evelyn alone in the cabin. As she watched him go, a wave of sadness washed over her. She missed her old life, her friends, and even Victor.

But she knew that she couldn't dwell on the past. She had to focus on the future, on clearing her name and reclaiming her life. She was no longer just Evelyn, the Luna of the Moonfire Pack. She was Evelyn, the survivor.

As night fell, Evelyn sat by the fireplace, staring into the flames. She thought about Celeste, her cunning lies, and her insatiable ambition. She knew that Celeste wouldn't stop until she had completely destroyed her.

But Evelyn was not going to let that happen. She was going to fight back. She was going to expose Celeste's treachery and reclaim her rightful place.

Suddenly, she heard a noise outside the cabin. Her heart pounded in her chest. Was it Lucien, returning early? Or was it Celeste, coming to finish what she had started?

Evelyn grabbed a knife from the table and crept towards the door, her senses on high alert. She slowly opened the door, peering into the darkness.

Standing in the clearing was not Lucien or Celeste, but a lone wolf, its eyes glowing in the moonlight. Evelyn recognized the wolf immediately. It was Alaric, Victor's Beta and one of her closest friends.

"Alaric?" she said, her voice filled with surprise. "What are you doing here?"

Alaric stepped forward, his expression grave. "Evelyn, I need to talk to you," he said, his voice urgent. "It's about Celeste."

Evelyn tensed, her grip tightening on the knife. "What about her?"

"I know the truth, Evelyn," Alaric said, his voice low. "I know that Celeste lied about you. I know that you're innocent."

Evelyn's heart leaped with hope. "You do?" she said, her voice trembling. "How did you find out?"

Alaric hesitated, his eyes filled with conflict. "It doesn't matter how I found out," he said. "What matters is that I know the truth. And I'm here to help you."

Evelyn lowered the knife, her eyes searching Alaric's face. She had always trusted Alaric, but she couldn't be too careful. Celeste had already deceived so many people.

"Why are you helping me, Alaric?" she asked, her voice cautious. "What do you want?"

Alaric sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I want to do what's right, Evelyn," he said, his voice sincere. "I can't stand by and watch Celeste destroy you. You're a good person, and you don't deserve this."

Evelyn studied Alaric for a long moment, her heart weighing his words. Finally, she made a decision.

"Okay, Alaric," she said, her voice firm. "I believe you. Tell me everything you know."

Alaric nodded, stepping into the cabin. He closed the door behind him and began to tell Evelyn the truth about Celeste. He told her about the dark magic, the twisted lies, and the secret plans.

As Evelyn listened, her anger grew. She couldn't believe that Celeste had been plotting against her for so long. She vowed to make her pay for what she had done.

But as Alaric spoke, Evelyn noticed something strange about his behavior. He seemed nervous, agitated, and he kept glancing towards the door.

"Alaric, is everything okay?" she asked, her voice filled with concern. "You seem… on edge."

Alaric hesitated, his eyes darting around the cabin. "I… I have to tell you something, Evelyn," he said, his voice trembling. "Something that I've been hiding."

Evelyn tensed, her senses on high alert. "What is it, Alaric?" she asked, her voice cautious.

Alaric took a deep breath, his eyes filled with fear. "Celeste knows I'm here, Evelyn," He confessed. "She's waiting outside. She sent me here to… to kill you."

Evelyn's heart stopped. She had been betrayed again.
