Hinata, annoyed: I told you, I'm not eating.
Naruto: It's me... Hinata.
Hinata (to herself, nervously): What?! What's he doing here?!
When she took too long to answer, he added:
Naruto: Hinata... can I come in?
Hinata (quickly): No.
Naruto: I want to talk to you...
Hinata: I said no.
She didn't hear anything from him for a while, until he said:
Naruto: Then... you leave me no other choice... I'll break the door.
Hinata was startled by that, then let out a sigh of frustration and said in surrender:
Hinata: Fine... come in.
As soon as he entered, she turned her face away from him quickly, giving him her back.
Hinata: What do you want?
He looked at her, surprised by her attitude, then said:
Naruto: Hinata... I'm sure I'm the reason behind this change, just like I was the reason behind your change in the past.
Hinata, sarcastically: Good that you know.
Naruto: Then... what's with this weird attitude towards me?! Did I do something wrong to you?
Hinata (angrily to herself): And he asks!!!
She didn't reply, so he said:
Naruto: Fine... don't answer. But I came to give you this.
Hinata had to look at him to see what he wanted to give her, and how shocked she was when she saw it! It was her mother's necklace — the one she had given him before he left! She walked up to him to take it, then stared at it for a long while, tears filling her eyes. Then she looked at him and said in disbelief:
Hinata: You still have it?!!!
Naruto, smiling in surprise: Of course... what kind of question is that?!!
Hinata, sadly: I thought you threw it away.
Naruto: Why would I throw it away when I promised you I'd keep it until I could give it back to you when we met again?
Hinata, angrily: That's exactly why I thought you threw it away.
Naruto, confused: What?!
She moved away from him and turned her back again:
Hinata: You never keep your promises.
Naruto, puzzled: I've kept every promise I made to you.
Hinata (cutting him off, angrily): Liar.
She continued crying:
Hinata: You promised you'd come back to the village. That's why I kept waiting for you, day after day, believing you'd remember your promise to me... but you never came, not even once... You call that keeping a promise?!!!
Silence filled the air for a moment, as if Naruto was trying to process what she said. Then a small smile appeared on his lips as he thought to himself:
"So that's what it is!! ...You're really too sensitive to be hurt by something this small..."
Then finally he responded with a smile:
Naruto: Who told you I didn't come back?
Hinata looked at him immediately, her tears stopping, her eyes filled with shock and disbelief. After a long moment of eye contact, she said:
Hinata: What... are you saying? Are you trying to trick me again?
Naruto, gently: I'm not tricking you... and I never have. I came back many times... and each time, I came to see you.
Hinata, in complete shock: You came... to see me?! Then why couldn't I see you or even feel your presence?!!!
Naruto, confused but smiling: I didn't let anyone see me or feel me... because you'd all try to make me stay in the village, and I couldn't... the circumstances wouldn't have allowed it.
She stared at him for a while, and he looked back at her. But then she turned her face away again:
Hinata: I don't believe you.
Naruto smiled, then stepped closer until he was right behind her. He bent down, placing his face next to her right ear and his head nearly resting on her shoulder, whispering:
Naruto: It's the truth... trust me.
Hinata's eyes widened, and her cheeks flushed a deep red — maybe her whole face turned red and even sparkled with the heat. Suddenly, she pulled away from him, flustered:
Hinata: I... I still... don't believe you.
He looked at her for a while in that state, then stood straight and smiled:
Naruto: Alright... take your time.
And he went back to the dining room...
As for Hinata, she stayed in the room, frozen, unable to move or speak, not believing what just happened. Then she sat on her bed, staring at the necklace:
Hinata (to herself): I hated him for more than five years... How can I believe him in just a few minutes?! ...Impossible... I won't believe him, no matter what.
When Naruto returned to the dining room, he said in surprise on his way to his chair:
Naruto: Weird!!! ...You guys haven't eaten yet?!
Kushina (smiling): You know I don't eat without you.
He smiled back at her, then looked at Sakura to see her reaction, but saw she was lost in thought, as if she hadn't heard him. He raised his voice a bit:
Naruto: Sakura...
Sakura (startled): What?!!!
Naruto: What's with all the stress?
She paused, then asked:
Sakura: What happened between you and Hinata?
Naruto: Nothing.
Sakura: Then... why didn't you come eat with us?
He looked at her, noticing how eagerly she waited for his answer. He smiled and went back to eating.
Sakura (getting a bit angry): Naruto... answer me.
She was cut off by Hinata entering:
Hinata: Sorry... for being late.
Upon hearing her voice, Sakura turned to her quickly, surprised. Hinata had her head down in embarrassment, which made Sakura even more shocked. She looked quickly back at Naruto, who was eating calmly, as if nothing happened. She raised an eyebrow and thought:
Sakura (to herself): This is the nothing?!!
Kushina (smiling as she got up): Your plate is cold, I'll bring you a fresh one... wait a moment.
Hinata (smiling): Okay... take your time.
Sakura looked at Hinata and thought:
Sakura (to herself): I haven't seen Hinata this happy or genuinely smiling since Naruto left the village...
Then she looked at Naruto again, continuing her thoughts:
Sakura: What exactly did he do???
After everyone finished eating — except Hinata, who came late — Kushina said with her usual gentle smile:
Kushina: Want me to get you more?
Naruto (smiling, placing his left hand over hers): No... thank you.
Her cheeks turned red, and her smile widened. Hinata and Sakura looked at each other in surprise, then quickly looked away...
Kushina stood up with her plate and Naruto's, and was heading to the kitchen when Naruto stopped her before she disappeared behind the wall:
Naruto: Kushina...
She stopped and turned her face to the right to look at him. She saw him move toward her until he was in front of her, then he placed his hands on her shoulders and pulled her closer to kiss her forehead, saying, "Thank you, my dear."
In Hinata and Sakura's minds: "My dear!!"
She smiled at him shyly and happily, then quickly ran to the kitchen. As for Sakura and Hinata, they kept staring at Naruto in astonishment until Sakura sarcastically said, "Is this how you treat your maid??!!!"
