Chapter 19 - Humans are scary (1)

The humid Amazon air felt thick, oppressive, as Gamma Squad advanced through the dense jungle. Their boots left shallow impressions in the soft earth, the only sound their measured breathing and the occasional whisper of trees shifting in the wind. The tension was palpable, each soldier acutely aware of the danger that lurked within the thick vegetation.

Sergeant Rodriguez, the sharp-eyed sniper, had the clearest view of the terrain. His scope scanned every movement, every change in the foliage, every shadow that dared to move.

"Contact! Twelve o'clock!" His words crackled over the radio.

But before he could finish, it happened.

Boom!

Ten earth spikes erupted from the ground with terrifying precision, each one had terrifying accuracy.

One impaled Sergeant Rodriguez through his tactical vest, the spike tearing through his armor and puncturing his body like a paper-thin barrier. Another shot through the communications specialist, his screams swallowed by the brutal force of the attack.

A third ensnared an advanced scout, yanking him into the ground as if the earth itself had come alive to devour him.

The air was thick with dust and blood. But it was the silence that followed that was the most terrifying. There was no movement from the ground where the strikes had landed. No screams. No desperate struggles. Just the soft dripping of blood onto the soil.

The Anaconda King had made its presence known, not with a roar or a hiss, but with an efficiency that bordered on terrifying intelligence. This was no mere animal—this was a predator of the highest order, a being that had learned from every previous encounter, calculating with the cold precision of a machine.

With its massive body coiled among the trees, the serpent seemed to be more than just a brainless creature . It was an Uncommon ranked being, its mind far beyond the instinctive violence of its kind.

The thick, dark green scales along its body shimmered with unnatural strength. They were no longer just armor—they were fortifications. Every bullet that struck its surface was simply absorbed, its metallic force bending and crumpling in the face of the Anaconda's natural defenses.

Dr. Chen, the team's lead scientist, attempted to use an environmental scanner, but the device went haywire, unable to process the creature's biological systems, which defied all known principles of science.

"Command!" Corporal Kael's voice crackled through the static. "Total environmental manipulation! They can't—" He was cut off by another earth spike, shooting out of the ground and piercing his chest, his words fading into nothingness.

The remaining members of Gamma Squad, realizing the battle was already lost, opened fire with high-caliber rounds. The weapons were designed to penetrate the thickest of armor, but their effectiveness against the Anaconda King was laughable. The bullets simply disappeared upon impact, Earth wrapped around the Anaconda King to protect it, In the span of a few moments, half the team was eliminated in a storm of earth and violence.

Its eyes locked onto Dr Chen, it did not like annoying voice of this this scientist, so it ate the human, crushing it into bits with its fangs.

The serpent's gaze fell upon Corporal Martin, the lone survivor. Its eyes—calculating, intelligent—studied him, deciding whether he was worth the energy required to eliminate.

The forest had gone deathly silent, as if it, too, had recognized the shifting power dynamic.

The Anaconda King was no longer merely a prey, of the humans.

It was the apex predator.

And the humans were now the prey.

It could see the reinforcements of the humans arriving.

It was curious about these groups of people.

Alpha Team arrived soon with Corporal Martin joining them. These men and women were seasoned, a highly trained unit of soldiers, scientists, and tactical experts. Their approach was precise, coordinated, the result of years of training condensed into a well-oiled machine. But this wasn't just another mission.

This was the Anaconda King, a creature that had crushed the best of Gamma Squad without effort. It was a new breed, an intelligent threat that would test their limits.

Sergeant Arias led the team, his mind already calculating their approach. His squad had the advantage of experience—and intelligence. The Anaconda King may have evolved, but they had advanced technology on their side.

"Stay sharp. This thing isn't just a monster. It's playing a game. And right now, we're the pawns," Arias murmured into the comms.

They moved through the forest, alert and methodical, the sound of leaves crunching beneath their boots the only indication of their presence. Then, they saw it.

The Anaconda King, coiled and motionless, its emerald scales glistening with an unnatural sheen under the faint light that filtered through the canopy. Its eyes locked onto them as they approached, glowing faintly with an intelligence that sent a chill down their spines. But this time, they weren't caught off guard. They were prepared.

The first strike came as a coordinated volley. A rocket launcher fired from the rear, the explosive payload slamming into the Anaconda King's flank. The explosion rocked the jungle, a massive boom that echoed for miles. But the creature did not flinch. Instead, it shifted slightly, it activated its skill, {Fortification}. Earth covered it scales, it also tightened its scales.

The damage was minimal, but still there.

They started raining with Rocket launchers, and uranium bullets.

The Anaconda king, used Earth spikes as cover, and was forced to use fortification skill numerous times, as its armor broke off.

It tried to get closer, but wasn't able to due to the high fire power.

"Target's showing fatigue," Sergeant Arias whispered. His sharp eyes had noticed something. The creature was breathing harder. Its movements were slowing. Not just physically, but in its reactions. It was calculating. It was adapting. But for the first time, it seemed vulnerable.

"Keep pressure on it," Arias continued. "No mercy. It's learning. We can't let it get comfortable."

Another barrage of fire struck. High-caliber uranium rounds. They tore into its side. Blood—green, thick, and strangely luminous—splattered across the jungle floor. It wasn't the red blood of a typical predator. No, this was different. The creature was different.

But the Anaconda King didn't flinch. Instead, it retaliated with devastating force. Earth spikes shot from the ground, targeting Alpha Team's position. One soldier screamed as the spike impaled him, his body torn asunder. Another was swallowed by the earth itself, the ground opening up to drag him below.

The battlefield had turned into a war of attrition. The Anaconda King wasn't just a monster—it was a force of nature, an elemental being capable of reshaping the very terrain beneath its body. Its earth manipulation was relentless, each spike a calculated effort to push the humans back.

But they still had the upper hand, they were on their guard, thus easily maneuvering over the earth spikes, whenever the earth spikes were about to attack them, they could feel a second of vibration beneath them. That was the time frame for them to dodge.

Then, Sergeant Arias noticed something. A shift in the Anaconda's tactics. The creature had begun to fight smarter. It had called reinforcements.

The Anaconda King had learned from its previous encounter with the numerous predators, there was strength in number.

Thus, during the time after their attack, it had gathered some of its kin, and helped some of them reach common rank.

From the dense jungle emerged twenty more Anacondas. These weren't the King itself, but they were no less dangerous. The larger ones, common-rank Anacondas, were covered in scales harder than titanium, capable of withstanding even the most concentrated fire. The smaller, inferior-ranked ones served as living distractions, darting between the trees, drawing attention away from the larger, more deadly creatures.

"Goddamn it, it's coordinating!" Dr. Elena Volkov screamed, her scientific mind racing to understand the unprecedented communication and change that was happening before her eyes. The Anacondas weren't just fighting as different individuals. They were fighting as an organized force.

The squad fired back, but their advanced technology—titanium-mesh containment nets, high-voltage immobilization systems, cryogenic suspension units—was no match for the evolutionary adaptations of the Anaconda King and its kin.

Then, in the chaos, Sergeant Lopez—one of the squad's elite snipers—met his brutal end. A common-rank Anaconda wrapped around him with the force of a hydraulic press. His screams were cut short as the creature's immense strength crushed him into the earth.

In a final, desperate act, Lopez fired his M107 sniper rifle point-blank, a depleted uranium round tearing through the creature's skull.

It wasn't enough.

The Anaconda's body was too resilient. Too powerful, in the end both of them died.

The Anaconda died due to blood loss.

In the end, there were only four Alpha Team members left, all surrounded. The King watched them, its eyes gleaming with a terrible intelligence. The battle had become a dance—a deadly game of survival.

It seemed that the Anaconda king was winning.
