Chapter 12 - Jedi 012

Corvus left the wing of the prison that Tann had been held in, and found himself within a much more luxurious section.

In this sector, there were about a dozen cells each about the size of an average home's living room.

They were well furnished, came equipped with a treadmill, a holotv, and a separate room for sleep.

Clearly this was a place where the important and well to do were held. It stood in stark contrast to the severe restraints imposed upon Tann and most other prisoners. In fact, these luxury suites were better than some apartments that Corvus had seen on Earth.

It was kind of crazy to think that billions of people on Coruscant would go their entire lives without seeing the sun a single time, yet some prisoners would have it better off than them.

The decay of the Republic disgusted him, and the weak wills of the Jedi only heightened his loathing of the entire corrupt institution.

Whatever this Senator had to say had better be pro reform, because if all he wanted was a return to the Republic as it was, then Corvus was of a mind to leave him to his fate.

Approaching the senator's cell, Corvus pressed a button, and the force field covering the room vanished.

Walking inside, Corvus saw the bronze skinned borderline elderly man reading a book on a couch. Next to him, a green colored protocol droid-the type of droid that looked like C-3PO was serving tea.

"Greetings, Fang Zar, I am-"

"Not now, I'm at a good part." Zar waved Corvus off.

Tugging on the Force, Corvus pulled the book out of the old man's hands.

[The blushing Twi'lek got on her knees, her delicate hands slowly reached for his zipper, and-]

Corvus rubbed the bridge of his nose after reading the first couple of lines. He really just caught another man reading a porno of all things.

"A Jedi. What do you want, I'm busy." Zar spoke in an accented voice that reminded Corvus of someone from the Far East, and had a bit of a shortness of breath, like someone who had smoked all their life.

"My name is Revan. I came to see if you lived up to your reputation. To see if Fang Zar truly is a man of the Republic." Corvus replied neutrally.

"If that's all you have to say, then give me back my book and leave me. I am not some animal in a zoo to be watched over and accosted." Zar harrumphed.

"You saw Emperor Palpatine's broadcast, did you not? It seems you are not the one I was looking for." Corvus pointedly glanced at the screen and then turned to leave.

"Emperor Palpatine?! Now just hold on a second young man, what is this all about? I've been reading all week, and haven't paid attention to a lick of news."

Thankfully, Corvus still had the recording of Palpatine that he had downloaded to show the CIS ruling council, and took it out now.

"...to establish a safe, and secure society…" Palpatine's hologram said.

"I always knew he was power hungry. That womprat." Zar stood up from his seat with clenched fists.

"Come, Jedi, we must go to the senate immediately, and issue an injunction!" Zar said with fire in his eyes, and vigor in his step.

"That is the kind of intensity I was looking for, senator. Unfortunately, it is too late for that. The Emperor is solidifying his control at an alarming rate, and the Grand Army of the Republic listen to his every word. Already, over 80% of the Jedi lie dead at his command, and any roadblock that stands in his way is next."

"He wouldn't dare, I am the duly elected senator of the Sern Sector!"

"You are still under the misguided understanding that we live in a democracy, senator. Your influence and voice are too important to be silenced. I cannot let you go to the senate." Corvus held out his hand, barring the senator from leaving the cell.

"Even if it means death, I must speak to the people. Do not bar my path, Jedi!"

"Your premature death shall mean the death of millions more, are you so certain in your conviction? Please, reconsider." Corvus asked one more time.

"What is my life to you anyway? I am but one outspoken senator. 61 others have been arrested, but you have come to me, why?!"

….Corvus couldn't tell him that he vaguely recognized him as a background character from a movie, nor could he tell him that he planned on stealing his ship.

"It is because of your convictions that I hold you in such high regard, Senator Zar. How many times have you debated your fellows over providing relief to a planet that suffered a natural disaster, or an economic package to jump boost a failing economy, only to have a vote be held, and it goes nowhere? Where even if you do pass the vote, the bureaucratic process gums up the aid pushing it back years?

How, my good senator, can a government act when forms I through XI must be submitted first, where every step is subject for review, where embezzlement, nepotism, and cronyism entrenched its tentacles in every step, bleeding the relief aid of half or more of the promised monies?

I approached you, because you are not like that. You and I, we see the Republic for what it could be, not what it is. So I ask of you, no beg, do not go to that senate floor, do not martyr yourself, and please, come with me, so that our shared dream may one day become a reality."

"Your words have inspired me, Jedi…very well, I shall do as you suggest, for the Republic." Zar took a step back, and solemnly nodded.

"Glad to have you aboard, senator. Now, before we leave this prison, you must know that your name shall become reviled, that Palpatine shall turn you into a wanted criminal, are you prepared for that?"

"Gladly. No burden is too heavy to bear for my people, for my Republic."

"Very good. I have already incapacitated the prison staff, there is one last thing we must do before your escape."

"And what is that, my friend?"

"Free all the prisoners, and erase all traces of our presence, starting with your protocol droid."

"That is…unorthodox."

"Is your resolve to restore the Republic so weak, senator? Would you so readily bow your head to the executioner's blade, smiling at him, that he was not following the rule of law? With Palpatine in charge, how many of these 'criminals' are innocent like you?" Corvus pressed back.

"...you are right. Forgive me, I am a peaceful man. All this talk of violence, it does not sit right with me, but what is the point of taking a stand if it is as you say, nothing more powerful than a smile."

"Then it is settled. Come with me, there is much to be done." Corvus gestured for the senator to step out of the cell.

Afterwards, he cut the droid to bits with a flick of his lightsaber, and made extra sure to destroy its memory core. A loud electrical exploding sound sparked in the room, then disappeared as the droid dropped lifelessly to the floor.

"Lead on, master Jedi."

Corvus nodded back, and then began to make his way to the security room.

Along the way, Tann dropped down from the rafters behind him, and unsheathed her lightsaber.

However, Corvus-paranoid bastard that he was-intermittently Paused everywhere he went, and had noticed her ahead of time.

Whilst she was still falling to the ground, Corvus had errantly flicked his hand behind him, and hit her with a [Force Push] causing her to slide backward on the squeaky clean prison floor.

Interestingly, the Force had not warned him of her actions. It seemed that relying upon the Force 100% of the time was a recipe for disaster, especially when dealing with other Force Adepts. Which made sense, because otherwise whoever was 'more Force sensitive' could just rely on the Force, and they would win every time.

"Hah, I thought I had you, you're good Revan. Show some more promise, and I might just-"

"Silence woman. You almost scared the poor senator." Corvus blithely gestured towards the quivering old man.

"She's just like in my book! She's perfect!" Zar exclaimed.

Corvus rolled his eyes. Zar was quivering alright, just not in fear.

"She has a name. It's Sev'rance Tann, and you'd better keep those greasy paws you call hands to yourself unless you want to start being called stumpy." Tann threatened.

"Oh hoh. You have excellent taste, my Jedi friend." Fang stroked his beard, and adopted the look of a refined expert.

'This perverted senator…'

Corvus could only wordlessly shake his head, he didn't have time for this shit.

"Here's what's going to happen. I'm going to assess the security bureau's network, order Tann's ship, the Stellar Envoy to be moved to the hangar. Then, I'm going to set a timed release on all of the jail cells in this facility, including a release on the armory. Meanwhile, Senator, you're going to sit tight in the control center. Once Tann and I complete our mission, we'll come back to collect you. Understood?"

"Oh yes, yes, it will give me more time to read my book!" Zar said in excitement. "Please Jedi, go take care of your business, you can trust me to hold down the fort!"

"This man is your ally in the senate?" Tann questioned incredulously.

"Says the woman who dropped from the rafters and said 'boo." Corvus deadpanned.

"You know why I did that." Tann crossed her arms.

"More tests? I think you're just bored and that's a convenient excuse. Three years spent locked up like that is inhumane, I can't blame someone trying to amuse themselves like that." Corvus shrugged his shoulders.

"Finally, someone gets me! Sometimes, I just want to burn something down, or just cut a bunch of random stuff up, y'know?" Tann cocked her head to the side and asked.

'Yep, definitely crazy. Sexy crazy.'

"I don't know about burning things, but this can be fun." Corvus turned to her, and mimed lightning hands.

Sparks fluttered from his fingertips, and a bright blue arc no longer than 5 inches moved towards her.

The Chiss stared mesmerizingly at the cackling electricity, and was figuratively stunned in place.

From Corvus's perspective, it was as if she were a bug drawn to a bright light.

'Was that saliva at the corner of her mouth? No wait, the way she's licking her lips! Dooku, what kind of depraved training did you put this girl through that she reacts positively to lightning hands?!'

"...Let's leave these tests between us for later, yeah?"

"Huh? No way, you're too much fun, Revan. Whoever heard of a Jedi using a darkside ability? The more I learn about you, the more I'm challenged in my own beliefs. You're a fascinating puzzle to be solved." Tann said, scrutinizing him from head to toe.

The Chiss's crimson eyes narrowed as if she were assessing a piece of prized meat. She caught him staring at her, and grinned, then placed her hands behind her head, and silently resumed her trek forward.

Corvus was happy to let silence dominate the rest of their walk to the security room, however, Zar kept glancing between him and Tann like the lewd oldtimer that he was. Wiggling his eyebrows, barely concealing his smirk, Zar couldn't be more obtuse.

Perhaps Tann had a point. Was this the most principled man in all of the Republic? Force, give him strength.

After 15 agonizing minutes of going up elevators, and walking at the speed of old man, they finally reached their destination.

"Alright, we're here. As discussed earlier, senator, you wait up there, and open the door when we get back, Tann, you're with me."
