Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: The Kill

The building had fallen sideways, and the elevator shaft was also lying horizontally inside the building, like a sealed steel tunnel.

Dudian panted slightly and stared intently into the deep darkness. The continuous low growls of the huge black beast made the hair on the back of his neck stand up. Although he saw that the beast was stuck, there was no guarantee that it wouldn't break free.

Dudian smiled bitterly in his heart. If he could have a good meal at this moment, he could quickly regain some strength and leave this place. Unfortunately, not to mention having a full meal, it was even difficult to find something that wouldn't kill him after eating.

Gradually, the growls of the huge black beast weakened. It seemed that it was also getting tired, but its heavy breathing could still be heard.

Time passed bit by bit.

Dudian felt his whole body getting colder and colder, and waves of drowsiness came over him. His mind became groggy, and he vaguely thought that if he fell asleep, he might never wake up again.

Thinking of this, he opened his eyes with difficulty and looked into the pitch-black darkness where he couldn't even see his own hand.

Staring at a dull and unchanging scene like this made it even easier to fall asleep. He thought that stimulating the nerves with pain was only a temporary solution and couldn't last long. To stay alert, he had to find something to make himself mentally excited, such as talking.

"Look at you. You just had to chase me. I don't have much meat on me. You won't be full after eating me, and you even got yourself stuck here. What a bad deal," Dudian said weakly, slightly twitching the corners of his mouth and looking in the direction of the huge black beast.

As he spoke, the drowsiness in his mind faded a little.

"You're still growling. Regret it now, don't you? If you had known this would happen, why did you do it in the first place..."

"What kind of feed do you eat to grow so big? Is it just radiation and viruses?"

"What species are you, and what's your zodiac sign?"

Dudian talked randomly. Although it was all nonsense, thinking that he had ended up in this situation, trapped in this dark place and having to talk to this monster that couldn't understand human language, he couldn't help but laugh at himself.

This laugh made him feel much more energetic. At this time, he found that the blood at the wound on his body had long since dried up, and the dried blood had sealed the wound, stopping the bleeding. A strong desire to survive welled up in his heart. He raised his hand and slapped his face, gathered his strength, and slowly moved his body, crawling towards a pile of stones about five or six meters away.

There was a hole above this pile of stones. It was these stones that had smashed through the elevator shaft, causing him to roll in.

"I must find something to eat first, or I'll starve to death," Dudian thought. He felt extremely hungry. If it were a normal situation of starving for a day or two, he wouldn't be affected at all. But the continuous walking, fighting, and fleeing after coming outside the Wall had completely exhausted his physical strength. Now, with excessive blood loss and injuries all over his body, his body heat was dissipating very quickly. If he didn't eat something to replenish his energy, he wouldn't be able to hold on until he left this place.

"It's a distance of more than ten floors ahead, and only a few floors below," Dudian looked in the direction of the huge black beast. Obviously, it was located on the lower floor of the building. To save his strength, he could only leave in the direction where it was.

However, with the beast blocking the way in the elevator shaft, Dudian could only climb out through the hole above.

Although there was an open elevator door not far from him, the elevator door was facing downwards, and if he went out, he would fall directly down.

Making up his mind, Dudian gritted his teeth and forced his body to crawl towards the broken pile of stones. The wounds all over his body ached faintly as he crawled, and many of the wounds cracked open again.

He inhaled a breath of cold air gently but didn't stop. He still persisted in climbing. He knew that if he continued to stay here, the spirit he had lifted by talking would eventually fade away, and then he could only wait for death.

Soon, he climbed out of the elevator shaft stepping on the stones.

The dim light spilled outside the elevator shaft, and dust was floating in the air. The walls and windows were all in a state of disrepair, full of holes.

Dudian looked in the direction of the huge black beast and immediately saw a large pile of concrete stones there. Broken steel bars were also exposed beside the stones. He let out a sigh of relief. With these stones pressing on it, the huge black beast wouldn't be able to climb out for a while.

He dragged his body towards the pile of stones. The areas on both sides of the elevator shaft were suspended in the air. If he stepped on the empty space, he would fall down. He couldn't help but be grateful that he had rolled down in a good position. If he had rolled down directly, he would have been fall to death alive!

Half an hour later, Dudian finally climbed out from the ruins and stones at the bottom of the building and came to the ground. Looking back at the collapsed building, he still felt a lingering fear.

He hid behind the stones and first surveyed the surroundings. He didn't see the trace of any walking corpses. Only then did he let out a sigh of relief. He thought to himself that these walking corpses should have been attracted by the sound of the building's collapse but didn't sense his presence, so they gradually dispersed.

Before, there was a deep blue sphere wrapped layer by layer inside his soft armor on the chest, which helped relieve the pain of the dagger wound on his chest. As a result, his body temperature was extremely low during the time he was in a coma, allowing him to avoid the detection of those walking corpses.

However, at this moment, the deep blue sphere had already been taken out by him and thrown into his waist bag.

Scanning the movement on the street, Dudian quietly sneaked up to a nearby storefront. The outside of this storefront was covered with vegetation and moss. Dudian's gaze fell on this vegetation. He used the dagger tucked in his waist to cut it off. The vegetation was immediately severed. He looked at the juice flowing out, which was clear water. Only then did he let out a sigh of relief. Suddenly feeling extremely hungry, he quickly grabbed a few leaves of the vegetation and chewed them gently with his mouth.

The dry and astringent leaves exuded a sweet taste in his mouth. Dudian couldn't help but chew them vigorously and quickly ate a few rough leaves, not caring that the leaves might be contaminated with germs or have an excessively high radiation content.

After eating the leaves, Dudian felt that the burning sensation in his stomach immediately subsided, and his body seemed to have a little more strength. He didn't continue eating the leaves but cut off the stems of the vegetation, squeezed out the water inside, and sucked it up and drank it.

The fact that the vegetation could thrive in such a place indicated that it had already developed the characteristics of radiation resistance and virus resistance.

After drinking some of the water, Dudian felt much more comfortable. He immediately thought of the huge black beast stuck in the building. A cold glint flashed in his eyes. The culprit who had forced him into this situation, he didn't plan to let it go just like that. As long as it wasn't dead, there was a possibility that it could break free. Once it broke free, it would be an unstable threat to him.

After thinking for a moment, Dudian came to a scrapped car covered with moss on the street. The front cover of the car was raised due to the collision, and the engine had long since rusted and was eroded by the rotten moss. Without much effort, he removed the fuel tank of the car. He saw that the gasoline in the fuel tank had oxidized and dried up, sticking to the inside of the fuel tank.

He had expected this. He gently scraped it with the dagger and quickly scraped off a layer of dark substance.

He took out the flint and ignited it. He burned this dark substance, and it was ignited all at once.

Dudian was a bit delighted. He immediately found other scrapped cars, removed the fuel tanks one by one, and scraped them. After scraping all the cars on half the street, he had accumulated a dark mass the size of a basketball.

Dudian also found some pieces of cloth from other stores and small supermarkets. The fibers of these cloths had become fluffy and would break with a little force. They were extremely light in weight. He picked up a large pile and climbed back to the building along the original path. It didn't take long for him to return to the previous elevator shaft.

After this series of tossing,he was exhausted. He sat in the elevator shaft and rested for a while before panting and lighting a torch. This time, he could see more clearly. The huge black beast was stuck in the pile of stones from its upper limbs. Only the part above its neck could move, and half of one of its front paws was exposed.

Dudian sneered. He stirred up the dark oily substance, rolled it on the combustible cloth and wood, and threw it at the beast.

These things hit the face of the huge black beast, immediately waking it up. It opened its eyes, growled and roared at Dudian, baring its teeth.

Dudian smiled slightly and threw out the torch in his hand.

Whoosh!

The torch landed on the beast and immediately ignited the cloth on it. Soon, a huge fire burned fiercely!

"Roar!!"

The huge black beast was on fire all over its body and couldn't help but roar in pain. Its head swayed violently from side to side, shaking the stones on its body slightly and making many small stones roll down. However, its body couldn't struggle free, and it couldn't even make the stone pile shake.

Seeing this, Dudian was completely relieved. He had originally been worried that the beast would go crazy from the intense pain. Now, it seemed that it was much weaker than he had expected. After all, when the building collapsed, the beast was just on the ground floor and didn't know how to take cover. It had suffered a great deal of damage, and with so much blood loss, it was already extremely weak.

The fierce fire illuminated the dark elevator shaft. The huge black beast struggled and roared in the flames, but gradually its roars weakened, and it fell in the firelight.

Dudian watched quietly. Suddenly, he felt that life was so fragile. Even a powerful life like the huge black beast couldn't escape death in the end. Perhaps... it was just that it wasn't strong enough?

Dudian clenched his fist slightly. The flames were dancing in his eyes, just like the ambition and fire in his heart, growing rapidly...

After the fire burned for about ten minutes, it gradually went out. A stream of hot air and a faint smell of cooked meat wafted over. Dudian used the flint to light another torch. He saw that all the thick hair on the outside of the huge black beast's body had been burned as fuel, and its body had turned into a charred corpse emitting heat.

Although he knew that the monster wouldn't pretend to be dead, for the sake of safety, Dudian still picked up a stone and threw it.

The stone hit the beast, but it didn't respond.

Only then did Dudian let out a sigh of relief. He carefully approached and looked at the charred corpse up close. The surface of the body was burned so that the flesh and blood were cracked, and it was a bloody mess.

"It seems that this monster is indeed different from the walking corpses. It can be killed without cutting off its head," Dudian thought to himself. After all, this monster had shown a beast-like consciousness, while the walking corpses were driven by unconscious instincts.

"I just don't know if there are also differences between what's in their heads and that of the walking corpses," Dudian's eyes were cold as he gripped the dagger.
