"Two hundred and thirteen, two hundred and fourteen..."
In a remote area full of rocks in the Ninth District, Dudian was counting the number of deep blue spheres in his hand. This was the total number of walking corpses he had hunted in the Eighth District these days, and there were a total of two hundred and seventeen!
What disappointed Dudian was that he had originally wanted to learn from the hunter's method of ambushing the huge black beast, setting up an ambush from a high place and then luring the horde of walking corpses with sound. As a result, although the walking corpses were lured over, his archery accuracy was extremely poor. None of the ten arrows hit the target, and the occasional hit was purely by luck.
For this reason, during his rest in the following nights, Dudian kept training his archery accuracy.
At first, he completely missed the target at a distance of fifty meters. After three days of serious training, he could already achieve an accuracy rate of one in two within a fifty-meter shooting range. On average, one out of every two arrows would hit the target. However, the objects he used for archery practice were all stationary, and the objects were relatively large. It was normal to make rapid progress at the beginning. But to further improve and truly reach the basic level of archery, the difficulty was much greater.
After all, walking corpses could move.
And just hitting a walking corpse wasn't enough. One had to accurately hit its head!
Although his physical constitution was higher than that of an ordinary person, after just a few days of continuous practice, he could only barely hit a walking corpse that was wandering slowly. On average, one out of every three arrows would miss the target. To hit their heads, he still had to rely on luck.
This made Dudian feel quite regretful. If he could master archery skillfully, he was confident that the number of walking corpses he hunted could at least triple!
Digging away the rocks, Dudian rolled up these deep blue spheres in a bundle and hid them in the pile of rocks. After all, if he brought all of them back to the consortium, with such a large quantity, it would most likely cause quite a stir.
"Bringing back only seven should be fine. I can also see how much the consortium values this thing." Dudian thought to himself. He also took off the bow and arrow in his hand and hid it in the pile of rocks.
In order not to attract attention, he deliberately came to the Ninth District, which had been scavenged many times, to hide these things. After all, the Eighth District had just been cleared and was the main scavenging area of the consortium in the future. Hiding things there would inevitably lead to exposure.
After hiding the things, Dudian turned around and carried a huge bundle on his back. Following the direction on the map, he headed towards the Great Wall on the outer edge of the Ninth District.
From a distance, the towering Great Wall was faintly visible. Only at this moment did Dudian feel the charm of this Great Wall. Even a monster like the huge black beast before would probably be like an ant trying to shake a tree in front of such a magnificent Great Wall and would hardly be able to cause any disturbance.
It was dusk, in front of the Great Wall.
Scott looked at the setting sun and felt that the passage would soon open. He couldn't help but look at Mekin and the other three beside him and said, "You said Dean is still alive. Why hasn't he come yet? The passage will only be open for ten minutes. If it closes, he can only enter when it opens next time."
Mekin eagerly looked into the distance. Upon hearing this, he became a bit anxious and said, "He knows the time. He shouldn't be late."
Mia looked at Sharm and said, "You said you saw him four days ago? Are you sure?"
"I'm very sure!" Sharm said solemnly. He had already heard about Dudian from Zach, but he absolutely didn't believe that Dudian would really turn into a walking corpse.
Mia gave him a deep look and said, "I hope you're not lying. It won't do anyone any good."
With a soft hum, suddenly, the passage in the Great Wall beside everyone slowly opened. The iron plate on the ground was lifted high by the 支架,like a huge steel mouth. A figure walked out from it, and it was Pete.
"Hmm?" As soon as Pete walked out, he saw Scott and the others outside the Great Wall and was taken aback. "What... is that all of you?"
Scott let out a sigh of relief when he saw him. His face looked a bit ugly upon hearing this, and he said, "There were a large number of walking corpses in the Eighth District we went to. Most of them probably migrated from other areas." He knew that it was impossible for so many walking corpses to have been overlooked by the hunters during the cleaning. Moreover, even if they were overlooked by the hunters, he couldn't say it directly.
"Walking corpses appeared?" Pete was taken aback for a moment. Suddenly, he thought of something and smiled bitterly. "When I heard my superiors talking, they said that there was a riot of monsters in a certain area. I didn't expect it to be the area near the Eighth District. You guys are really unlucky..." As he said this, his gaze swept around, and his face changed slightly. He said, "Where's Dean?"
"He... may have been infected by a walking corpse and can't come back." Scott hesitated for a moment but still expressed his thoughts. Although Zach and the others said they had seen Dudian, he didn't quite believe it.
Pete's face changed. He sighed and said, "I had high hopes for him. I didn't expect... Well, you guys go in first. The guards are waiting for you inside."
Scott nodded slightly and entered the passage with Mia.
The other three scavengers and the young scavenger boy also followed in.
Mekin and the other three stood still, looking anxiously into the distance.
Pete knew that the four of them had graduated from the same dormitory, so he didn't urge them. He just sighed and quietly looked at the vast and desolate plain in front of him. Every time he saw this plain, he would think of countless scavengers and hunters who were forever buried in the ruins on the other side of the plain during their mission trips.
Life was so fragile.
He sighed slightly and felt a bit sad.
Suddenly, an extremely excited voice sounded: "It's him, it's Dean!"
Pete was taken aback. He squinted his eyes and looked over. He immediately saw a black sphere running from a distance. As it got closer, he could see clearly that this sphere was a huge and round bundle, and under the bundle was Dudian.
Pete was stunned for a moment, and a smile involuntarily appeared on his face.
Dudian saw Mekin and the other three, as well as Pete, who were waiting for him in front of the passage from a distance and immediately quickened his pace.
"I knew it, I knew you wouldn't be in trouble!" Mekin dropped his backpack and rushed over first, punching Dudian in the chest.
Dudian smiled and said, "Glad you know. In the future, when I tell you to run, just run. Don't be as hesitant as a woman."
"You're the one who's like a woman. When you first entered the training camp, you were even fairer than the girls in other dormitories." Mekin said with a laugh.
Dudian rolled his eyes. He came in front of Pete and said, "Sorry to keep you waiting."
Pete smiled and said, "It's good that you're back. It seems you've had a good harvest. Go in. The passage will close in six minutes."
Dudian nodded slightly and entered the passage. Mekin, Zach, and Sharm also picked up their respective backpacks and happily followed behind Dudian.
They returned to the inside of the Wall along the dim passage. When they stepped onto the steps, Dudian and the others immediately saw Scott and the others. Besides them, there were also more than a dozen guards of the Church of Light wearing the Light Badge here.
"Dean?" Scott and the others were stunned when they saw Dudian.
Dudian looked at these guards and wondered, "Who are they?"
Scott came to his senses. Remembering what Mekin and the others had said, he immediately understood that Dudian hadn't been infected by a walking corpse. Otherwise, after six days, even the slightest wound would have infected him.
"These are the guards of the Church of Light. They're conducting routine inspections. This is the usual practice every time we come back. The armor we're wearing and the items we're carrying all have to be handed over to them for consignment to the Church of Light. The priest will bless them and purify the plagues and viruses on these items before they can be sent back for use." Scott explained.
