Chapter 1 - The Beginning

I had turned 16 last month, my father and my mother had left me to take care of the kingdom while they had left for the meeting with the emperor and empress of Nytheria, leaving me in charge of Luxemore.

'Prince Lucian, the knights by the border have reported more and more elves to be lurking in the dark.'

Ever since I was a child, my father had told me stories of old about vampires, elves, dragons, shapeshifters, and what not. But, none of these creatures have stepped foot in Luxemore. Most of the citizens of our kingdom thought they weren't real and were just a piece of folklore, so they left, forgotten, but times change.

That's right, there have been more elf sightings recently, the Dreadmoor Estate did say that there was an elven spy on their clock tower at midnight. But it is unusual though, why would there be elves near our kingdom?

'The northern or the eastern part of the border?'

'Northern, Prince Lucian.'

'Prepare my stead, and some rations, I will talk with the leader of the elves.'

'But-'

'No buts, Kairos. The elves have been acting unusual lately, they would not be doing this if they did not have a problem.'

'Very well. I shall go ask the coachmen to prepare everything you need.'

Kairos is a good man, however, he worries too much.

I got up from my seat and left my study. They should have everything ready in a few. I headed towards the door of the palace, outside, I could see the coachmen preparing the carriage.

'Is there a need for a carriage, Kairos? A horse would've been much better.'

'I don't think it really matters, Prince Lucian.'

'Also, I don't think I mentioned you had to come along.'

'His and Her Majesty had ordered me to take care of you while they had left for business.'

Oh that's right, I had forgotten. I don't understand why mother and father doubt my capabilities.

'Very well, let us continue.'

We made our way to the gate of the kingdoms wall, after an hour or so.

'Prince Lucian, I must tell you something..'

'What is it, Kairos?'

'…At night.. there have been sightings of….'

'What was that, Kairos? You mumbled.'

'Of vampires, sir!'

Vampires?!

'You're… not joking right? You promise you're not pulling on my leg?!'

'No, I promise!'

I was choking, my body felt numb from the shock, my mind was running, I felt unsteady, my head aching, my legs trembling.

'Prince Lucian, we have arrived by the border of the forest, I'm afraid we'll have to go by horse, the terrain is not suitable for the carriage.'

I have to keep my calm, we won't be able to negotiate with the elves then.

'Very well, let us get off here.'

We got off the carriage and mounted the horses, however there was a problem.

'Prince Lucian, you'll have to mount with me, due to the shortage of horses.'

That is odd, a shortage of horses? I thought they would have known about the terrain..

'Alright, then.'

We ventured further into the forest, then it had started turning dark, I advised the men to set up camp for the night and make some dinner.

'Rest up, you will need your strength if we want to find the elves, they are fast and and smart-witted.'

'Yes sir!'

It was a good idea to not bring much people, I don't know what would've happened otherwise. Well, I must get to sleep for I will also need my energy.
