Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Points System

Chapter 3: The Points System

Brock went to the Pewter Gym and found Aron 'the Gym referee; Aron was a man in his late twenties, dispatched by the Pokémon League to serve as referee at the Pewter Gym'. Aron gave Brock a package. Brock opened it; inside were a Pokédex, five empty Poké Balls, one Poké Ball containing Geodude, and a League Card. Brock thought, *"I wonder how much money is on the card. I only know that Gym Leaders receive money each month. That should be enough."* Holding the package, Brock went home.

Brock came to the Gym daily, training his Pokémon while also keeping an eye out for anyone wanting a Gym battle. In the evenings, he went home to take care of his younger siblings. Unknowingly, two years passed. Over these two years, countless Novice Trainers had challenged the Gym. After each battle, if the challenger won, Brock gave them a Badge; if they lost, he taught them how to train their Pokémon, telling them to come back and challenge the Gym again when they were stronger. Because Brock did this, the Pewter Gym and Brock himself became famous throughout the Kanto region. Trainers in the Kanto region all knew that in Pewter City's Gym, the Gym Leader Brock would teach people how to train their Pokémon to become stronger.

One day, Brock arrived at the Gym as usual. Suddenly, a voice called out, "Anyone here? I want to challenge the Gym!" It was a boy wearing a hat and a blue short-sleeved shirt, with a Pikachu perched on his shoulder. Accompanying him was a girl wearing denim shorts, with an orange ponytail, clad in a yellow sleeveless top and shorts. Seeing their attire, Brock knew immediately they were the protagonist Ash and the first female lead Misty from the anime of his previous life. Seeing Ash and Misty reminded Brock that the original Brock from the anime was obsessed with girls, but he also had a dream of becoming the number one Pokémon Breeder. He thought, *"I've transmigrated into you; I will definitely help you achieve your dream."*

Brock looked at them, walked over, and asked, "Which of you wants to challenge the Gym?"

The boy said, "I'm Ash from Pallet Town! The girl next to me is Misty. I'm the one challenging the Pewter Gym!"

After hearing Ash, Brock replied, "I am Brock, the Leader of this Pewter Gym. The rules of the Pewter Gym are 2-on-2. Is that okay?"

Ash eagerly said, "Okay! Let's start!"

Aron stood in the center of the battlefield and announced, "The 2-on-2 Gym battle between challenger Mr. Ash and Gym Leader Mr. Brock will now commence! The challenger may substitute Pokémon; the Gym Leader may not. Begin!" Having spoken, Aron quickly moved to the sidelines.

Brock took out a Poké Ball, threw it, and said, "Go! Geodude!"

Ash took out his Pokédex and looked up information on Geodude. Then, he also took a Poké Ball from his belt and said, "Pidgeotto, go!" A bird-like Pokémon emerged.

"Pidgeotto, use Gust!" Ash commanded. Pidgeotto cried out, "Pidgeo~!" and flapped its wings, sending a fierce Gust towards Geodude.

"Geodude, use Dig!" Seeing Pidgeotto use Gust, Brock calmly ordered. Hearing Brock, Geodude immediately dug a hole in the ground, dodging the attack.

Seeing Geodude dodge, Ash commanded again, "Pidgeotto, use Wing Attack!"

"Geodude, catch it!" Brock said. Geodude caught Pidgeotto's wings with its two stone hands. "Now throw it, then use Rollout!"

Geodude threw Pidgeotto and then curled up, rolling towards it. Pidgeotto took damage from the Rollout attack and lost its ability to battle.

Seeing Pidgeotto unable to battle, Aron announced, "Pidgeotto is unable to battle! Challenger, please send out your next Pokémon."

Hearing the referee, Ash called the Pokémon standing on his shoulder onto the battlefield. Seeing Ash send out Pikachu, Referee Aron announced, "The battle between Pikachu and Geodude will now begin!"

"Pikachu, use Thundershock!" Ash shouted. A jolt of electricity shot towards Geodude. After the flash of electricity faded, Ash saw that Geodude hadn't taken any damage at all. Seeing this, Brock recognized an opportunity and commanded Geodude.

"Geodude, use Rollout!"

With one Rollout attack, Geodude knocked Ash's Pikachu out of the battle. Seeing Pikachu unable to battle, Ash ran over and picked it up.

Brock walked over, glanced at Pikachu, and said to Ash, "Pikachu is fine, it just needs some rest."

Hearing Brock, Ash said, "Thank you for telling me about Pikachu's condition. Can I challenge the Gym again next time?"

Brock replied, "Yes." After hearing Brock's answer, Ash left the Gym with Misty.

Just as Ash and Misty walked out of the Gym, a "Ding!" sound echoed in Brock's mind. [Congratulations, Host, for meeting and defeating the protagonist of this world. Conditions met. Activating the Points System. I am your System Spirit.]

Hearing the voice in his head, Brock asked aloud, "Who's speaking? Who are you, and where are you?"

The System Spirit's voice replied in his mind, "I am your System Spirit. Just think 'Enter System' in your mind, and you will be able to see me."

Brock did as the System Spirit instructed. He mentally pictured entering and saw a ring of light appear before his mind's eye. Walking into it, he saw a spirit resembling the Android system logo. He asked it, "So you're my System Spirit? Why do you look like this? What functions do you have?"

The System Spirit replied, "This is just my initial appearance; I can change based on the Host's preferences. As for functions, take a look yourself!"

A screen appeared before Brock (in his mind). Written on the screen were menu options:

● Inspect

● Items

● Pokémon

● Pokémon Eggs

He explored further:

• [Inspect:] This was divided into "Modify Ability" and "Inspect Pokémon Potential."

• [Items:] This section included Pokémon food and healing medicines for Pokémon, as well as medicine for humans.

• [Pokémon:] This listed Pokémon available for purchase/exchange.

• [Pokémon Eggs:] This listed Pokémon Eggs.

Brock checked the Pokémon prices and found them exorbitantly expensive. A single Rattata cost 1000 points, let alone the Legendary Pokémon! Realizing transactions used points, he asked the System Spirit, "How do I get these points? Also, I'll just call you bell! It rolls off the tongue better."

The System replied, "Thank you for granting me a name, Host. I shall be called bell. Points are obtained by completing missions."

After looking through the functions, Brock exited the system interface in his mind.

---

A few days later, Ash came to challenge the Gym again. Just like in the anime, Ash's Pikachu accidentally activated the Gym's sprinkler system , dousing Onix and allowing Ash to win the match.

As Brock was giving the Boulder Badge to Ash, another "Ding!" sounded in his mind. Brock checked the notification:

• Main Quest: Travel with the protagonist Ash until the Kanto League Conference.

• Completion Reward: 50,000 Points.

Seeing the mission, Brock immediately asked, "Ash, Misty, can I travel with you guys?"

Ash replied, "Sure! The more, the merrier!"

Misty asked Brock, concerned, "Brock, if you travel with us, what about your Gym?"

Just as Misty finished speaking, someone at the doorway said, "Brock, you go on your journey! Leave the Gym to me!"

It was a middle-aged man, looking to be around thirty years old.
